Pallavi Rao: It’s tough when shows go off air

Actress Pallavi Rao, who is currently seen in the TV show Pandya Store, says that the television industry is very unpredictable and things get tough when a show goes off air suddenly.

“It is very easy to say that a show went off-air because of low TRPs but people, like technicians, makeup artists, etc, who are working behind the scenes, go through a lot when a show suddenly wraps up. For actors, as well, when a show goes off-air it is not easy. It is difficult to get another show immediately,” Pallavi told IANS.

The pandemic and the lockdown were tough on the entertainment industry as shoots were stopped midway for a period of almost three months. While a lot of shows were pulled down by the channels during that time, a couple of shows which went on-air after the lockdown went off-air in just a few months.

“The entertainment industry is run by the audience. It completely depends on the audience what they want to watch, it is totally their criteria and their choice. If they like a show, then the show continues, otherwise, changes are made. After the lockdown also, it was difficult to say what the audience will like or accept and I guess some shows they did not like,” she says.

Khatija Iqbal speaks on actors’ exploitation

Actress Khatija Iqbal, who will soon be seen in the third season of the web series “Inside Edge” feels that actors often get stereotyped because makers don’t explore an actor’s talent, resulting in stereotyping of artists.

The actress feels strongly about issues of exploitation, stereotypes, and the growth of artists.

Talking to IANS, Khatija says, “I feel it (stereotyping) comes from lack of knowledge and the ability to actually invest time into exploring actors and their potentials. Give them a chance to at least test for different parts and see the newness they are bringing to the table. Only when someone gets a platform, he/she can showcase what more he/she can offer.”

The second thing that the”Ragini MMS” Web series actress points out is how actors, especially newcomers and extras are being treated by some production houses.

“Exploitation of actors needs to be addressed. Some production houses think they own actors especially junior artists. I’ve seen heads and senior actors misbehaving with junior actors. Supporting actors are being called on sets and to sit for hours and hours just for a suggestive few seconds’ take. I have seen how tired they get, all sleep deprived but focused on their dreams.”

She goes on to add, “They also need rest to look fresh and good on screen, energetic to perform well. And more than anything else actors deserve respect.”

“As a young woman in this industry, I think it’s important not to be intimidated. I think that we’re sometimes told to be a little bit afraid of our power. We’re sometimes made out to be difficult or hard to work with, but we are just doing what everyone else is doing,” Zendaya told OK! Magazine, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The actress added that it is about “owning that power”.

“It’s about not being afraid to ask for the things that you know you are worth or are worthy of,” she added.

“I felt very stagnant because I’d been doing the same thing for so long. But I knew I could do more and I knew there was a lot that people didn’t know about me. Nothing really connected until I got ‘Euphoria’, which I landed the month before I was supposed to do ‘Spider-Man’,” the actress recalled.
