Kareena Kapoor Khan leads the way for a hair care brand derived by nature and elevated by science. St Botanica is taking the next step in its journey with the keen objective to attract new generations of consumers. Based on extensive research-based the formulations contain natural and organic ingredients and steer away from preservatives, parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colours, perfumes and so on.

In chats with the Bollywood actress to get more details:

Many people find with pregnancy their hair takes a tool, did you experience this at all and if so what did you do about it?

Kareena:

Pregnancy can definitely cause all kinds of hair problems, especially postpartum hair fall. Thankfully I ensured I provided my body and hair with enough nourishment. Diet is an extremely important part of the process so I made sure to include good fats in the form of seeds, nuts, eggs and fish. Moreover, I avoided any form of extreme hair styling as it puts a lot of stress on your scalp and you really don’t need that! St. Botanica’s Moroccan ArganOil massage is always my go-to for hair care and de-stressing.

Good hair really goes far to lift your mood. Do you agree?

Kareena:

Definitely! I think I speak for all women when I say a good hair day just makes your day so much easier and brighter.

What is your hair care routine, and do you believe home remedies go a long way in maintaining your locks?

Kareena:

My hair care routine includes a deep oil massage once in a while. I shampoo and condition my hair every 2-3 days. I also incorporate the St. Botanica Hair Mask in my routine. I’m a big believer in nature-inspired home remedies to nourish hair, which is why working with St. Botanica has been such a good fit, as they are inspired by nature and elevated by science.

When it comes to grooming and beauty products, people are turning to products which are chemical free, free of animal testing and sustainable, do you find this is important?

Kareena:

I have always been very conscious about the products I use and make sure they are focused on natural ingredients rather than chemicals. Sustainable buying is the need of the hour so it is extremely important that my beauty products be ethical and sustainable. True beauty cannot be achieved at the cost of harming others, so yes, shifting towards animal and environmental cruelty-free products and adopting sustainable beauty methods is extremely important. This is also a reason why I swear by the brand, as all the products are derived from botanical actives and the range is 90 per cent vegan & free from parabens and sulphates.

Hair accessories, a blowdry or natural locks, your go-to style?

Kareena:

Natural, easy-to-do hair has always been my go-to. I love a good beachy-wave look!

The one lockdown habit you can’t seem to shake off?

Kareena:

One lockdown habit I really can’t seem to shake off is how I’m always sanitising everything at home. Although, I suppose this is not the worst habit to have…

Please tell us about your association with St Botanica?

Kareena:

I am thrilled to be the face of St. Botanica, a brand that uses the power of Science to extract the best from Nature and Natural Botanics. I have always been extremely particular with the products I use for my hair and St. Botanica’s belief of perfecting the art of hair care with quality-driven formulations and Bio Actives is something I deeply resonate with.

When the brand approached me for this association, they told me about their extensive research-based formulations containing natural and organic ingredients, and steering away from preservatives, parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colours, it did definitely spark my interest. It’s a serious brand that delivers serious results and as a consumer, I was delighted to see them delivering on their promise.

Swapnil Joshi-starrer horror film ‘Bali’ to have digital premiere on Dec 9

Actor Swapnil Joshi’s upcoming Marathi horror film will be having a digital premiere on December 9.

Helmed by filmmaker Vishal Furia and produced by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar’s GSEAMS (Global Sports Entertainment and Media Solutions Private Limited), the film, which also stars Pooja Sawant and Samarth Jadhav, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.

Furia said: “As a genre, I have been drawn to horror and it’s been my constant effort to break new ground with every film in this space. The best kind of horror films are psychological, which create empathy for characters despite their basic premise being far from reality. The more we believe what we are watching, the more immersive the experience becomes.”

“This is exactly what ‘Bali’ is about, dealing with a gamut of emotions, fear being the biggest among them all. I would like to thank producers Arjun and Kartk for believing in the work I do.”

‘Bali’ is about the life of a widowed, middle-clasBalis father, Shrikant (Swapnil Joshi), which takes an unexpected turn when his 7-year-old son Mandar (Samarth Jadhav) collapses and is referred to a Jan Sanjeevani hospital for a detailed diagnosis. Things change when Mandar starts talking to a mysterious nurse, who he claims is staying in the abandoned part of the hospital.

“Amazon Prime Video has always strived to bring its viewers content that stand out in terms of storytelling, layered narratives, and compelling performances,” said Manish Menghani, head of acquisition, India content, Amazon Prime Video.

Menghani added: “Following the love that consumers have showered on Chhorii, we are thrilled to continue our association with Vishal Furia, who is attempting to redefine the horror genre in India. With a stellar cast, including Swapnil Joshi, Bali adds further value to our ever-expanding language content portfolio.”

Producers Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar of GSEAMS added: “There is no denying that horror as a genre appeals to a vast expanse of audience. However, it calls for a lot of authenticity and precision in the narrative to become a success.”

Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey-starrer ‘420 IPC’ trailer out

Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Gul Panag and Rohan Vinod Mehra starrer suspense drama film ‘420 IPC’ is releasing on December 17.

The trailer was released on Tuesday.

The trailer shows Vinay as a simple Chartered Accountant named Keswani who has influential clients like the Deputy Director of MMRDA. When this client is arrested by the CBI for a Rs 1200 crore scam and when another client accuses Keswani of stealing and forging 3 blank cheques of Rs 50 lakh each, Keswani’s life turns upside down as he fights the grave accusations of theft, forgery, and attempted bank fraud.

The film is directed by Manish Gupta who said, “After exploring murder mysteries and false rape cases in my previous films, I wanted to make a suspense film that did not involve a violent crime and had subtle humour. I’d got the idea for 420 IPC during my extensive three years of research for Section 375 that brought me face to face with court procedures in economic offense cases – which I found to be an unexplored premise for a film”.

Vinay said, “I believe in the power of good writing and that’s what 420 IPC’ is. It’s a tight script written by Manish Gupta with an edgy plot that will keep the audience hooked till the last frame. I play a simple family man, a chartered accountant, who finds himself in the midst of a scam.”

Ranvir Shorey mentioned, “In 420 IPC’, I am portraying the role of an eccentric Parsi public prosecutor which is something I haven’t done before. This is a riveting suspense film about an economic offense which is an uncharted topic in Bollywood, so I am excited to see the audience’s reaction to the trailer and the film”.

Produced by ZEE Studios and Rajesh Kejriwal and Gurpal Sachar, the film releases on ZEE5.

Soul Sisters: Bringing ‘Zindagi’ to women’s stories beyond borders

While some of the words and one-liners like ‘art should be kept away from politics’, ‘art and artistes are powerful to bridge socio-political gaps’ – remain mere lip service for many on cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, there are a few content creators in the business who are constantly trying to walk the talk.

Pakistani web series ‘Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam’ (QHKN), a Zindagi original, is all set to air on Indian OTT platform ZEE5.

In conversation with IANS, Shailja Kejriwal who is the Chief Creative Officer, Special Projects, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd shared how the constant efforts of creating content in collaboration with the talents of both the countries will keep the hope alive for peace. British-Indian filmmaker Meenu Gaur, the director of QHKN also joins in.

Shailja told IANS: “Firstly I genuinely believe that we should never box people and their ideas based on where they are coming from, if we do so, how will we create content that is out of the box really? As brand Zindagi, we know that in South Asian countries, we have a steady fan-following for our stories and the audience is only growing. When it comes to the common people of India and Pakistan, we know how similar and different we are at the same time. In the last two years especially, the kind of shows that we are greenlighting are a mixed bag of human-interest stories and stories of women. Be it ‘Churails’ that we released last year or the upcoming one QHKN, we are telling the stories of women who are standing against patriarchy because that is the age-old tradition in both the countries, India and Pakistan. I believe as a content creator that instead of just saying ‘art and eartists have no boundaries’, bringing them together by utilising the power of OTT platforms is a better way to keep the hope alive.”

The show ‘Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam’ is a six-part anthology series featuring seven women.

Sharing her thoughts on the story, Meenu, an award-winning film director said, ” The whole crux of our conversation was how to redefine the word ‘femme fatale’. Why do we treat women who are strong, powerful and beautiful – as someone who will ruin the world of the men, as if they are the man-haters, they are vamps! We have seen in popular culture how the image of a vamp is an educated, beautiful woman who knows what she wants. How come that is negative, but there is a negative connotation attached to it, right? Through this show, with six stories we are trying to see the narrative from these women’s lens instead of the rules set by the society that is patriarchal.”

Adding to that Shailja said, ” I think being non-conformist, or not being submissive or women who know their mind, tends to get such a reaction from society. But it is so much there in our upbringing. You see, a girl is always told to occupy less space and not to upstage a boy, or their male counterpart. Things are changing and it will change for the future generations more if we continue the conversation through stories in popular culture.”

The show features leading actors including Sanam Saeed, Sarwat Gilani, Samiya Mumtaz, Faiza Gillani, Beo Raana Zafar, Eman Suleman, Saleem Mairaj, Ahsan Khan, Osman Khalid Butt and Sheheryar Munawar.

While the director of the show is a British Indian, it is interesting to notice how all the actors in the show are Pakistani.

Asked if there is a strategy to only work with Pakistani actors for every Zindagi original show, Shailja replied, “No, no we do not have such thoughts in mind at all. But logistically it is difficult for Indian actors to travel to Pakistan and shoot. We shot our latest show in Pakistan, earlier also we did the same. If a story is set in a specific landscape, especially under the pandemic when we shot, we have to keep logistics in mind. We are in fact planning to work with Indian actors in our upcoming projects where our audience will get to see Indian and Pakistani actors sharing screen for some web show, maybe. At times, crossing the short distance looks much tougher, if there is a border. But, we should never stop dreaming for that day to come.”

Written by Farjad Nabi, ‘Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam’ releases on December 10 on ZEE5.
