It’s housefull: Bollywood biggies queue up for theatrical releases

As soon as Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that all cinema halls and drama theatres in the state will reopen from October 22, a slew of Bollywood filmmakers declared the release dates of their upcoming films.

The reopening comes after 18 months after the box-offices were shut in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic plus the series of lockdowns since March 2020.

Following the news, filmmakers, producers, distributors and cinema hall owners welcomed the decision and expressed their excitement online.

Speaking about the same, Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR Limited told IANS: “It is heartening to see the locking of release dates by the producers of Big Ticket Bollywood movies starting this festive season and beyond in view of the recent Maharashtra government announcement for reopening of cinemas.”

He added that Hindi movies have a universal appeal in our country cutting across regions and geographies and hence crucial for the revival of the entire film exhibition industry.

“The multiplex industry thrives on a constant supply of content week on week and a clear horizon of the Hindi film pipeline will surely help to stabilize the film exhibition business”.

Alok Tandon, CEO – INOX Leisure Ltd, too welcomed the Government of Maharashtra’s decision to allow cinemas to reopen from October 22 and the announcements of release dates made by various production houses.

Talking to IANS Tandon added: “We now have both passion and content on our side to stage a remarkable comeback and entertain film lovers.”

“The emerging content line-up also augurs well for the financial health of the cinema exhibition sector, and should hasten the recovery process. We would like to assure all our guests about our safety protocol which would ensure a safe and hygienic movie watching experience.”

The second half of 2021 looks bright.

The first Bollywood big film, which is slated to hit the silver screen is Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Sooryavanshi’. It will be released on October 22.

The next film to see the light of day in the theatres is Yash Raj Film’s ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’. The Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji-starrer and family entertainer will hit theatres on November 19, 2021. Helmed by Varun V. Sharma, the film also features Siddhant Chaturvedi and debutante actress Sharvari.

The vigilante action film ‘Satyamev Jayate 2’, which will see action hero John Abraham in a double role is locked for November 26.

Ayushmann Khurrana-Vaani Kapoor’s progressive love story ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’, which is directed by Abhishek Kapoor, is scheduled to drop on December 10 this year.

Filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala also made an official announcement of a slate of big ticket releases including ‘Tadap – An Incredible Love Story’ featuring Ahan Shetty and Tara Sutaria on December 3.

Kabir Khan’s ’83’ featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone is out on Christmas 2021.

Upon the reopening of the theatres in Maharashtra, Nadiadwala “welcomed” Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s “historic decision”.

He added: “I am really happy for the cinema hall and multiplex owners since this decision will boost their revival. With big festivals around the corner, there couldn’t be better time to start than Diwali.”

Allu Arjun’s Telugu film ‘Pushpa’, which revolves around the red sanders heist in the hills of Andhra Pradesh, too will release in December. The film will be clashing with Ranveer’s ’83’ on Christmas.

Actor Shahid Kapoor on Sunday announced the release date of his much awaited film ‘Jersey’. The film will be released in theatres on December 31. It is the official Hindi remake of National Award-winning Telugu film by the same name. The original film starred actor Nani.

This is not it!

Makers are optimistic as they have even released a slate for 2022 releases.

Prabhas and Pooja Hegde’s romantic film ‘Radhe Shyam’ is slated to release on January 14.

The release date for Akshay Kumar-starrer big budget period drama film ‘Prithviraj’ has been announced as January 21.

Superstar Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chadha’, which is an official Hindi remake of Hollywood film ‘Forrest Gump’ will release on Valentine’s Day next year.

Ranveer’s ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ is slated to hit theatres on February 25. It narrates the journey of a Gujarati man, who becomes an unlikely hero.

‘Bachchan Pandey’ starring Akshay, Kriti Sanon and Jacqueline Fernandez is on March 4. ‘Shamshera’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor will release on March 18.

The second instalment of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, starring Kartk Aaryan will release on March 25.

‘KGF 2’, ‘May Day’ and Tiger Shroff’s ‘Heropanti 2’ will hit the screens on April 14, April 29 and May 6, respectively.

Aanand L. Rai’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ‘Vikram Vedha’ remake will be released on August 11 and September 30.

Akshay’s ‘Ram Setu’ will be lighting up the screens on Diwali 2022 and closing the year 2022 will be actor Tiger Shroff’s high octane actioner ‘Ganapath’ on December 23.

Ayushmann-starrer ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ to release on Dec 10

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming film ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ is all set to hit the big screens on December 10.

Ayushmann posted two pictures on Instagram. In one image, he is seen holding a clapboard and flaunting his washboard abs. The second picture has his co-star Vaani Kapoor and director Abhishek Kapoor posing for the camera with him.

“Body dekh lo, Shakal baad mein dikhaayenge. Theatre khul gaye hain, dilon pe phir se chaa jaayenge (See the body, will show face later. Theatres are reopening, we will takeover the hearts once again.) #ChandigarhKareAashiqui, releasing on 10th December, 2021,” Ayushmann wrote as the caption.

Ayushmann will be seen playing a cross-functional athlete in the film directed by Kapoor. It is pitched as a progressive love story and is set in north India

Kangana shares ‘permanent stretch marks’ after ‘Thalaivii’

Actress Kangana Ranaut has talked about how her weight adjustments for her latest ‘Thalaivii’ that “messed up many things” in her body and left her with “permanent stretch marks”.

For her role in the film, based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former actress J. Jayalalithaa, Kangana had to gain 20kg and undergo major physical transformation several times.

She took to Instagram to share her experience, detailing that doing all that over the six months period left her with “permanent stretch marks”.

“Gaining 20 kgs in 6 months and loosing it all within 6 months that too in my thirties messed up many things in my bodya I also have permanent stretch marks as well but art comes to life with a price and more often than not price is the artist him/herself,” she wrote.

“Thalaivii” showcases the varied aspects of Jayalalithaa’s life, tracing her journey as an actress at a young age to becoming the face of Tamil cinema, as well as the rise of the revolutionary leader who changed the course of the state’s politics.

Talking about her upcoming works, Kangana currently has ‘Dhaakad’.

She is also shooting for her next ‘Tejas’, where she plays a fighter pilot. The Indian Air Force was the first of the country’s defence forces to induct women into combat roles in 2016. The film takes inspiration from the landmark event. ‘Tejas’ is directed by debutant Sarvesh Mewara. The film will be RSVP’s second film which pays a tribute to the Indian military after the immensely successful film “Uri: The Surgical Strike” which was released in January 2019.

Doja Cat was called Amy Winehouse during her teens

Rapper Doja Cat has said that she was likened to late singer Amy Winehouse, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011, during her teenage years because of her make-up style.

Doja Cat said: “I used to do a giant cat-eye and the kids (in my high school) used to call me Amy Winehouse and other names that they thought were funny but weren’t.

“I’ve been learning how to do this cat eyeliner over the years, and I finally perfected it.”

Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, eventually purchased an eyeshadow palette and just “went crazy” with it, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The ‘Juicy’ hitmaker Elle.com: “I had every colour in the rainbow and I went crazy with that. I definitely didn’t know how to prime my eyes, so nothing looked that great, but I kept going.”

Doja Cat earlier revealed that she’s become more restrained on social media since finding fame.

The rapper was hugely enthusiastic about social media before she released her debut album ‘Amala’ in 2018, but she shared that she’s become more cautious with her posts over recent years.

Ellie Goulding feared she’d die during severe panic attack

Singer Ellie Goulding feared it was the end of her life when she suffered a terrible panic attack while travelling on a train, as she recalled how her mind just “completely crashed”.

Goulding said: “I was on a train, going to my friend’s dad’s funeral, sadly, and I was going back through where I grew up and I remembered the old person that I was and it hadn’t caught up with this new person that I was trying to make myself as a recording artiste, and I think it just completely crashed.”

“And just at that moment the train broke down and it was just this coming together of things where it came out in this massive panic of, well I was sweating, and my heart was pounding and I was having palpitations and I had these feelings of dread  which made me think I’m going to die.”

The ‘Love me like you do’ hitmaker added: “I was like, ‘Is this death? Is this dying?’, because that’s how severe it was as a physical reaction.”

Speaking to Frankie Bridge on the ‘Open Mind’ podcast, Goulding added: “I don’t remember having it when I was younger. It’s possible that I did. I just maybe didn’t interpret it in the right way or I thought that was just who I was, whereas I’ve been able to unpick things a lot more now as I get older.”

“I think the first time that it became a physical thing was when I started out in music and it all happened so bloody quickly that I couldn’t catch up with what was going on. My brain couldn’t catch up with my body or the other way around.”

Neha Kakkar, Farhan Sabri create new fusion song ‘Bol Kaffara Kya Hoga’

Singer Neha Kakkar collaborated with DJ Chetas and Farhan Sabri for the song ‘Bol Kaffara Kya Hoga’ that releases on Saturday.

‘Bol Kaffara Kya Hoga’ has the original vocals of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from ‘Dulhe Ka Sehra’.

Actress Ihana Dhillon recuperating well after serious accident

Actress Ihana Dhillon, who met with a serious accident last month and suffered seven fractures, says she is recuperating well and that post her recovery she will be back to work.

Ihana met with a very serious accident in August and was in the intensive care unit (ICU) for several days.

Ihana said: “I am very grateful to the Almighty for saving me. It was a devastating accident and it could have been a lot worse. The people that I have around me are incredible and each day felt like a blessing.”

Ihana will be commencing work from October.

She added: “I would be resuming work next month. I am recuperating well. There is more work to be done but things should be fine soon. We need to take a moment each day to be grateful to be alive and kicking. This is a wonderful life. Sadly we understand it sometimes after something happens. Love and light to all.”

Ihana made her Bollywood debut with the movie ‘Hate Story 4’. She has also starred in Punjabi movies such as ‘Daddy Cool Munde Fool’, ‘Tiger’ and ‘Thug Life’.

Arjun Kapoor attends ‘two bootcamps’ in 3 months

Arjun Kapoor attended two bootcamps in the last three months for his physical transformation in Alibaug. The actor says he has no shame in admitting that given his condition, he has to work twice as hard than others.

“I’m in a good space right now trying to push my body as much as possible so that I can be the best version of myself. I’m a work in progress and I will always be one.

“It is what makes my resolution even stronger and I’m currently thriving in this feeling.

Arjun has shared a video detailing his day at the bootcamp in Alibaug and also talked about his diet.

“In the last three months, I have managed to do two bootcamps with my trainer Drew Neal. He has taken me out of the city and we have spent over two weeks, per bootcamp, trying to achieve the best results. I’m only thankful to Drew for believing in me and for motivating me to reach higher,” Arjun said.

He added: “I have also been sticking to the discipline of eating the same food for a long duration and created consistency. I will continue to work harder towards making myself better and fitter in the days to come.”

“I have no shame in admitting that given my condition, I have to work twice as hard than others,” Arjun said.

Bhumi: Hindi cinema should start showing sustainable way of living

Actress and climate activist Bhumi Pednekar feels that it is time for Hindi cinema to start showing a sustainable way of living in their films.

Bhumi, in a chat with an interview, said: “I definitely feel that it’s high time that Hindi cinema starts showing a sustainable way of living in their films. I feel like as a fraternity we are woke and I personally would like to believe that we are more conscious than other industries, but I still feel like we aren’t doing enough.”

The actress, who has three films lined up ‘Mr. Lele’, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ‘Badhaai Do’, feels that there is a need for narratives in films that provide communication.

“I do feel that we need narratives in films/ movies that provide the communication as it’s the most powerful medium to get the message across to the masses,” she added.
