‘Haseen Dillruba’ director on shooting rafting scenes

Filming the rafting scenes in the Taapse Pannu-starrer “Haseen Dillruba” came with its set of challenges, says the film’s director Vinil Mathew.

The film is set in a small town by the river and rafting plays an integral part of the story. Mathew said shooting amidst the rapids meant they could not load heavy camera equipment in the raft.

“We had to shoot a rafting scene in a fast-moving rapid river. Since we could not carry heavy cameras onto the raft. The DOP and I carried portable cameras and got into the raft to shoot the actors ourselves. Holding the camera with one hand and our lives with the other, we shot the scene as the raft dangerously tossed and turned. It was a fun crazy day, at the end of which we were fully drenched!” Mathew recalled.

“Haseen Dillruba”, featuring Taapsee with Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan Rane, is slated to release on Netflix on July 2.

Shilpa Shetty says her husband can’t sing

Actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra made a candid confession on reality TV — the fact that her husband can’t sing.

The subject came up on “Super Dancer: Chapter 4”, a show that Shilpa judges. In an episode featuring singer Kumar Sanu, the actress will be seen opening up about her husband Raj Kundra.

In the episode, the contestants will dance to Sanu’s hit songs from the nineties. The ace singer will also croon a few of his popular songs to add nostalgia.

Shilpa then requests Sanu to sing “Woh toh hai albela” from the film “Kabhi haan kabhi naa”, saying it is one of her husband’s favorite tracks.

“Raj is perfect, but he can’t sing. The moment my husband tried singing this song, I figured that singing is not and will never be his forte. So, now I hope he takes away the message of how he should actually sing,” the actress said.

Sanu shared that he is singing all these songs for the first time on a reality show.

After the song, he said: “I have never met Raj Kundra but I would like to tell him, no matter how good or bad a singer he is, I am always ready to help him out whenever he needs me to.”

“Super Dancer: Chapter 4” airs on Sony Entertainment Television.

Vaani Kapoor: It’s been a long wait to see my films get a release

Vaani Kapoor has a dream line-up right now. After her last release, the blockbuster “War” in 2019, she was cruising along, looking at three mega releases in 2020. Then, pandemic struck.

It’s delayed her date with the box office, of course, but “Bell Bottom” starring Akshay Kumar, “Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui” with Ayushmann Khurrana, and “Shamshera” with Ranbir Kapoor is still mega attractions at the box office. It’s been a long wait, but with “Bell Bottom” being formally announced for theatrical release on July 27, Vaani tells you it pays to be patient.

“It’s a solid product and Akshay sir, like in every film of his, is simply outstanding. One has to see the film to understand what he has done. I’m grateful that I have a big film coming out now,” says Vaani.

“It’s been a long wait to see my films get a release due to the virus, but I’m being super hopeful now that the audience will be entertained by them,” she adds.

Vaani feels restarting the film industry has become important because the onslaught of losses has been relentless over the past year. A glossy spy thriller as “Bell Bottom” could perhaps be the right film to kickstart things once again.

“I’m really excited about the prospect of our industry restarting because it has endured the relentless onslaught of the pandemic. ‘Bell Bottom’ is a big screen entertainer. Hopefully, the film will play a huge hand in bringing people back to the theatres,” she says.

Ayushmann Khurrana: My equity today is mainly due to my social entertainers

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s equity has been soaring over the past few years. He has delivered eight back-to-back hits in theatres and won a National Award at the same time, striking that balance despite constantly departing from what is traditionally expected from the Bollywood hero. Ayushmann credits his social entertainers for his success.

“Whatever my equity is today, is mainly due to the success of my social entertainers, which made me connect to the people of India. These films have told people who I am, how I think, and what my intent is as an entertainer,” he says.

Ayushmann says he has been fortunate to get the right films that have become hits. Success always translates to equity, he adds.

“I have always believed in letting my work do the talking. I have been fortunate enough to pick projects that have contributed to the new discourse of how cinema in India can be unique, clutter-breaking, conversation-starting entertainers that don’t need to follow stereotyped norms of how stories have been told,” he says.

The actor said that he would like to believe brands have noticed this and connected with the idea that he tries to tell real stories of real people. “I feel thrilled that I’m part of a brand’s vision and journey to reach out to audiences with a narrative that resonates my journey in cinema. I’m grateful that my films have worked wonderfully,” he says, in this context.

Ayushmann currently has three films lined up. He will be seen in “Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui”, “Anek” and “Doctor G”.

Zareen Khan: I was told to put on weight for ‘Veer’

Actress Zareen Khan, who faced body-shaming after the release of her debut film, the Salman Khan-starrer “Veer” in 2010, claims she was actually told to put on weight for the role by “experienced people” who gave her “instructions”.

Talking about whether the industry judges an actor on the basis of look, Zareen told in interview: “It definitely does. I wouldn’t say all of it, but a major section of the industry does. In the beginning, it was really difficult because of the comparison, my weight was almost a national issue.”

When Zareen made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman in “Veer”, people were quick to notice that she had a passing likeness with Katrina Kaif. Soon, the focus shifted to her body type.

“Everybody was just talking about my

weight and I couldn’t understand — why is my weight such an issue, because I was told to put on that weight,” she claimed.

“When I entered the industry, I was like this lost child. I was a 20 or 21-year-old, not as polished as the 20 or 21-year-olds we have now. (I had) Nothing to do with the Bollywood industry and there I was on a film set with the biggest superstar of the country,” Zareen recalled about starring with Salman.

“When my very first shot happened I didn’t even know where the camera was. I was that dumb and naive. When I am so inexperienced and I am working with such experienced people, they give you instructions. I was supposed to look like that and I followed instructions, and then when the film released it backfired on me. From my looks to my weight to everything, I couldn’t understand what I did. It was funny, it was disturbing. There were too many emotions at one time,” Zareen added.

“It went wrong for some time that I didn’t even have work but this industry has taught me that nothing is permanent here. Perceptions change with every film and nothing should be taken to heart,” she summed up.

Zareen was last seen in “Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele”, which released on Zee5 a while back.
