Rohitashv Gour on Nehha Pendse as new Anita Bhabhi: The chemistry can be created again

Actress Nehha Pendse has stepped in as the popular Anita Bhabhi in the hit sitcom, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain! Actor Rohitashv Gaur, who plays one of the protagonists Manmohan Tiwari, feels she will be able to carry off the character with ease.

Anita Bhabhi was popularised by actress Saumya Tandon, who subsequently left the show. Nehha was initially trolled on social media by a section of the show’s fans, though many others have loved her act as Anita Bhabhi.

In the show, Rohitashv’s Tiwari ji is smitten by Anita Bhabhi, who is a next-door neighbor. Meanwhile, Anita’s husband Vibhuti (played by Aasif Sheikh) has a crush on Manmohan’s wife Angoori (Shubhangi Atre Poorey).

Talking to IANS about Nehha playing Anita, Rohitashv says: “Definitely Nehha Pendse will justify the role. She has a good personality. There will be differences with Saumya Tandon, but she’ll do justice to the role. Nehha is an intelligent and experienced actress and has been working since childhood. There’s no doubt she is a versatile actress. I can say it as I’ve started shooting with her. Saumya ji and I had amazing chemistry, no doubt about that. I will always miss her.”

The fun banter between Anita and Manmohan was loved by the audience, and Rohitashv says it was important that the track resumes soon.

“Since Anita Bhabi left the show, the storyline was impacted. I would say it became one-sided because the main track in the show is about my love for Anita Bhabhi, who is my neighbor while Vibhuti Ji loves Angoori. The loving track of Anita Bhabi and Tiwari ji was hugely missed by the audience, too,” says the actor.

Will it be difficult to rebuild the chemistry with a new actress? “The chemistry can be created again. When the first Angoori (Shilpa Shinde) left the show, everyone said no one would be able to take her place but Shubhangi Atre ji has settled in really well. Now people think of her as Angoori. The Indian audience is very flexible. As far as our characters are concerned everything will be the same as it was with Saumya so that the audience gets the same content and punches as they were getting before,” says Rohitashv.

Kangana reacts to ‘Naachney gaane wali’ jibe: I am a Rajput woman I break bones

Actress Kangana Ranaut on Friday evening reacted to former Madhya Pradesh minister Sukhdev Panse’s derogatory remark about her, calling her a “naachney gaane waali”. The actress tweeted a strong reply based on an IANS tweet about Panse’s comment earlier in the day.

“Whoever this fool is does he know I am no Deepika Katrina or Alia… I am the only one who refused to do item numbers, refused to do big hero ( Khan /Kumar) films which made entire Bullywoodiya gang men +women against me. I am a Rajput woman I don’t shake a** I break bones,” Kangana wrote on Twitter.

Her tweet came in response to an IANS tweet, which reads: “Former minister in the previous #KamalNath govt in Madhya Pradesh, Sukhdev Panse, has made a derogatory remark against #Bollywood actress #KanganaRanaut (@KanganaTeam), calling her a ‘Naachney Gaane waali’ (which loosely translates into a cheap version of a public entertainer).”

My career has never been dependent on my co-actors: Priyanka

“There is no rulebook for me and I don’t believe in planning too much. I have never allowed my work to define me completely. All my life, I have chosen diverse roles — across genres, continents, and platforms, and my career has never been dependent on my co-actors,” said actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas, talking about her recently released memoir ‘Unfinished’, during the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF).

The book details the 38-year-old actor’s childhood in India and abroad, and her rise to fame. Speaking with columnist and writer Shobhaa De, she said that she was now at a place where she had come together and in-charge of everything in her life. “That is a long way from a young high school girl who got into fashion and later the Indian film industry.”

Jonas, who was recently seen in the film ‘White Tiger’, which she also co-produced on a digital platform, feels that the coming of age of streaming platforms has been a major breakthrough. “It is no longer the same 10 people who are doing everything. We are witnessing newer talent every day. Thanks to these platforms, so many actors, directors, and writers are going where no one has been. Just see how the world has come to witness the brilliance of Adarsh Gourav in ‘White Tiger’.”

While nepotism was the media’s favorite word a few months back, the actor feels that she has seldom seen anyone inheriting work. “There is nothing wrong in wanting to take care of family and friends. However, I have always believed that there should not be a wall, and we need to ensure that the table is bigger — more opportunities must be created.”

Although a private person who seldom talks about her personal life, the actor, who has written extensively about her husband and father in the book, said, “Nick (Jonas) is an extremely secure and conscientious man who provides me with a sense of balance. I can completely trust him to share my burdens.”

Talking about her late father, Jonas added that he always stood by her. “He was always on my side to encourage and always made it a point to be there for me.”

On her foray into Hollywood, the actor feels it has been a lesson in humility. “It was my choice to go to a new industry and try my luck there. There are times when no one knows you at a party, and you introduce yourself. One may enter a magazine office and tell them who you are. Frankly, I do not have a problem with that because I never walk into a room entitled.”

Adding that women of her generation have been instrumental in creating a change in the Hindi film industry, Jonas says that now we are witnessing several married women playing the lead, becoming producers, and managing content. “I really hope the next generation of girls do not inherit the same failures of the system which we did.”

Talking about racism and discrimination on ethnicity in Hollywood, she said that though it was not blatant it is just not in their consciousness to imagine a brown or black person playing the lead in a movie or television drama. “However, it has been incredible that many of South Asian descent have been able to push the envelope and I am honored to be among them. I wanted to break those doors,” said the actor who played the lead in the US TV series ‘Quantico’.

‘Neerja’ turns 5: Ram Madhvani gets nostalgic, Sonam posts about courage

The Sonam Kapoor-starrer Neerja turned five on Friday, and the film’s director Ram Madhvani says the much-applauded effort was possible only with the support they received from Neerja Bhanot’s family.

The film stars Sonam as late Ashok Chakra recipient air-hostess Neerja Bhanot, who died while protecting the lives of passengers on a Pan Am Flight that was hijacked by terrorists during a Karachi stopover on September 5, 1986. Neerja was two days shy of her 23rd birthday.

“The most special part was when Neerja’s mother whom we affectionately called Dadi came for the shoot and blessed us by saying, ‘Jeetey raho khush raho’,” recalled Madhvani while speaking to IANS.

“It is because of what Neerja did and her family’s support that this film is special in the hearts of all of us,” he added.

The film won the award for Best Feature Film in Hindi at the 62nd National Awards with a special mention for Sonam Kapoor.

Earlier in the day, Sonam posted a note on Instagram remembering the film and its subject. “Fear gave her courage,” she wrote.

The film features Shekhar Ravijiani, Shabana Azmi, and Yogendra Tiku in pivotal roles.

Dia Mirza’s wedding ceremony used ‘completely biodegradable’ material

Actress Dia Mirza on Thursday shared that her recent wedding ceremony was conducted using completely biodegradable and natural material.

“The garden where I have spent every morning for the past 19 years was an absolutely magical setting and the most intimate and perfect space for our simple and soulful ceremony! We are so proud to have been able to organize a completely sustainable ceremony without plastics or any waste. The materials used for the minimal decor we went for were completely biodegradable and natural,” she wrote on Instagram, along with a picture from the ceremony, being held in her garden and conducted by priestess Sheela Atta.

Dia then spoke about the “highest point” of her wedding to businessman Vaibhav Rekhi.

She wrote: “The highest point for us was the Vedic ceremony conducted by a woman priest! I had never seen a woman performing a wedding ceremony until I attended my childhood friend Ananya’s wedding a few years ago.”

She added: “Ananya’s wedding gift to Vaibhav and me was to bring Sheela Atta who is her aunt and also a priestess, to perform the ceremony for us. She also painstakingly went through several hours of training to imbibe the essence of the scriptures so that she could assist Sheela Atta and translate the shlokas! It was such a privilege and a joy to be married this way! We do hope with all our heart that many more couples make this choice.”

“For it is a woman’s soul that contains love, wonder, benediction, magical energy, tenderness and deep empathy for all that lives. It is time for women to own their own agency, their divinity, their power and to redefine what is old and birth what is new. As Charles Bukowski said, “there is no lie in their fire.” So what can be more uplifting and empowering than to see the sacred fire within a woman’s heart and soul taking centre stage at a wedding? I am still overwhelmed by the magic of this one moment,” she wrote.

“Also, we said NO to ‘Kanyadaan’ and ‘Bidaai’ change begins with choice doesn’t it?” she added.
