In a recent turn of events, T-Series and Netflix India have been summoned by the Delhi High Court following a lawsuit filed by Cine1 Studios, a co-producer of the film Animal starring Ranbir Kapoor. The lawsuit aims to halt the Animal OTT release on any streaming or satellite platform until the grievances are resolved. This development might disappoint fans eagerly awaiting the digital release on Republic Day.

Cine1 Studios filed a lawsuit against T-Series, alleging a breach of contract regarding the film Animal. The objective is to prevent the Animal OTT release. T-Series argues that Cine1 Studios waived their rights in an amendment agreement made in August 2022. The Delhi High Court has summoned both parties for future hearings, potentially delaying the digital release of Animal.

Cine1 claims that T-Series violated the contract terms by not seeking consultation or consent for various aspects, including pre-teasers, credits, marketing strategies, and disclosure of final costs. Additionally, Cine1 accuses T-Series of withholding information about agreements with Netflix India for internet rights and Sony Pictures Networks India for satellite rights.

Senior Advocate Amit Sibal, representing T-Series, counters these allegations, stating that Cine1 surrendered all intellectual property and derivative rights for Rs 2.6 crores through an amendment agreement in August 2022.

Justice Sanjeev Narula oversees the court proceedings, accepting the lawsuit. Summons have been issued to both defendants for written statements and affidavits. The case is expected to progress with evidence marked on March 15, with issue framing at a later date. Additional submissions are scheduled for January 22, where legal teams will present their arguments comprehensively.
