Anupama Parameswaran on Paradha: “Female-Centric Films Must Be Commercial to Survive in Theatres”

0

Anupama Parameswaran, who made her debut with Premam in Malayalam and later gained recognition in Telugu with A Aa, has steadily built her credibility as an actress with diverse roles. She is now gearing up for her upcoming female-centric film Paradha.

Speaking about the challenges of such films, Anupama stressed the importance of commercial viability. Audiences are willing to watch female-centric films on OTT, but not many come to theatres. Since these films are not seen as commercially viable, most of them end up premiering online,” she said.

She urged viewers to support women-led stories on the big screen as well. “Films like Arundathi and Bhaagmathi proved that female-led movies can work theatrically. Paradha has all the ingredients expected from a commercial entertainer, but with a woman in the lead. I may not do fights like a regular hero, but our film has a strong story,” Anupama explained.

The actress further emphasized that female-centric films must adopt a commercial format to survive theatrically. “Please watch our film if you hear positive reviews and word of mouth,” she appealed.

Paradha features a strong ensemble cast including Anupama Parameswaran, Darshana Rajendran, Rag Mayur, Sangitha Krish, Rajendra Prasad, and Harsha Vardhan. The film is directed by Praveen Kandregula and produced by Vijay Donkada, Sreenivasulu PV, and Sridhar Makkuva under the Ananda Media banner.

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s highly anticipated film Coolie is finally set to hit the screens tomorrow. Starring Superstar Rajinikanth in the titular role, the film also features Nagarjuna Akkineni in a powerful negative role.

Nagarjuna plays Simon, the main antagonist, and he recently revealed that his character is heavily inspired by Heath Ledger’s iconic Joker from The Dark Knight.

During promotions, Shruthi Haasan and Nagarjuna discussed the film and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s admiration for the Joker character. “Lokesh Kanagaraj is a huge fan of Batman. He had Heath Ledger’s Joker in his mind and probably saw that madness in Simon’s role,” said Nagarjuna, adding with a laugh, “I’m glad he didn’t put that smile.”

Simon’s character is said to be a turning point in the script. Even Rajinikanth was surprised when he learned Nagarjuna was cast in the role. At first glance at the trailer, the portrayal of Simon has grabbed attention, raising expectations. Coming right after Kuberaa, Nagarjuna is hopeful this film will mark another major revelation in his career.

Adding to the excitement, Coolie is clashing at the box office tomorrow with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, making it one of the biggest cinematic showdowns of the year.

Barbarik Trailer: An Emotional Anthology with a Mythological Twist

In the crowded space of small-budget films, some projects manage to grab attention with their unique concepts — and Tribanadhari Barbarik is one of them. From its intriguing title to its striking first look, the film has been generating curiosity, and the newly released trailer has only heightened the buzz.

Featuring a talented ensemble cast including Sathyaraj, Sathyam Rajesh, Udhaya Bhanu, and others, the film is an anthology written and directed by Mohan Srivatsa. The trailer hints at a plot centered around Sathyaraj’s character, whose life connects to several others through multiple storylines.

At the heart of these narratives is a mysterious book titled Tribanadhari and the enigmatic character Barbarik — a figure from mythology believed to be Bheema’s grandson. How this mythological element weaves into a contemporary emotional drama is something audiences will discover in theatres.

The trailer is rich with human emotions, layered subplots, and a touch of mystery, backed by strong technical work — from striking cinematography to an evocative background score. Produced by Vijaypal Reddy, with Kushendar Ramesh Reddy as DOP and Marthand K. Venkatesh handling editing, the film promises both visual and narrative depth.

If the emotional core clicks with audiences, Tribanadhari Barbarik could become a surprise box-office success.

Superman OTT Release: James Gunn Confirms Streaming Date for 2025 Superhero Blockbuster

In a surprise announcement, director James Gunn has revealed that his 2025 superhero epic, Superman, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, will be available for streaming from August 15, 2025.

Taking to social media, Gunn wrote:

“Superman is coming to your homes this Friday, 8/15. Available for pre-order. Or catch it while it’s still in theatres.”

According to The Wrap, Superman will stream on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. For collectors, physical editions in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD will hit shelves on September 23.

Released on July 11, the film has grossed $581 million worldwide, with $332 million coming from the USA and Canada, making it the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2025. However, its performance in international markets fell short of projections.

The early OTT release has triggered backlash from fans, who believe it could hurt the movie’s theatrical run. One netizen expressed frustration:

“Why so early?! Shameful and stupid decision. Superman is still running strong in theatres and had so much box office potential left. Stuff like this damages theatre-going culture.”

Whether this move will impact Superman’s long-term box office performance remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — audiences now have the choice to watch the Man of Steel both on the big screen and at home.

Before War 2 Hits Theatres, Tiger 3’s Post-Credit Scene Sends NTR Fans Into Speculation Mode

With just hours left for the grand release of War 2, starring Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan, excitement is at an all-time high. As part of the YRF Spy Universe, War 2 picks up directly after the events of Tiger 3 (2023) — and now, fans are buzzing over a key connection.

In the post-credit scene of Tiger 3, Colonel Sunil Luthra (Ashutosh Rana) assigns Major Kabir Dhaliwal (Hrithik Roshan) a near-impossible mission. His words are chilling:

“Kabir, what I am going to ask you is something no officer should ask of a soldier, nor a father of his son. But only you can do this.”

He continues, warning of a new enemy — a faceless, nameless figure who thrives in darkness. To stop him, Kabir must enter that same darkness.

This small scene has now taken over social media, with fans theorizing whether Jr NTR will portray this menacing antagonist — or if the makers are concealing an even bigger surprise. Adding to the mystery, Anil Kapoor is confirmed to be part of War 2, yet hasn’t been featured in any promotional material so far.

All questions will be answered tomorrow when War 2 storms into theatres worldwide. Until then, speculation and fan theories are keeping the hype alive.

Pooja Hegde Praises South Cinema, Says Bollywood Offered Only Glamour Roles

Many actresses who begin their careers in South Indian films and later move to Bollywood often criticize the South Indian industry for limiting them to glamorous roles. However, Pooja Hegde has taken a completely different stand.

Though she debuted in Bollywood, Pooja’s most impactful performances and biggest hits have come from Telugu and Tamil cinema. In a recent interview, she candidly admitted that Bollywood rarely gave her meaningful roles, often casting her as a mere glamour figure. “Except for Mohenjo-Daro, most of my Hindi films didn’t give me memorable characters,” she said.

On the contrary, she credited South filmmakers for trusting her with well-written, performance-driven roles. She pointed to her latest Tamil film Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, as an example — a project that allowed her to showcase her acting range.

Pooja also recalled her emotionally rich characters in Telugu hits like Aravinda Sametha and Radhe Shyam, saying they had depth and scope for performance. She expressed her desire to continue working in such roles that challenge her as an actress.

While opportunities in Telugu cinema have slowed in recent times, Pooja remains busy with Tamil projects and select Bollywood films — but she makes it clear where her heart truly lies.
