In just 16 hours, Karthi’s ‘Viruman’ trailer gets 3.6 mn views!

The trailer of director Muthiah’s eagerly awaited explosive action entertainer ‘Viruman’, featuring actors Karthi and Aditi Shankar in the lead, has garnered a whopping 3.6 million views on YouTube in less than 16 hours of being released.

The trailer, which was released at a grand event in Madurai on Wednesday night, shows that this film too, like Muthiah’s earlier film, ‘Komban’, will be a rustic, action-packed entertainer.

The trailer gives away the fact that Viruman (played by Karthi) is the fourth son of Prakash Raj, a Tehsildar, and that relations between the father and son are strained to the extent that the father calls his own son, a Narakasuran, while the son rewards a man who slaps his dad with a gold ring.

Interestingly, Muthiah seems to have realized from making ‘Komban’ that Karthi and Raj Kiran complement each other well and has looked to reproduce the same charm in this film as well.

Aditi Shankar, the daughter of ace Shankar, looks absolutely at ease, giving no clue whatsoever that this is her debut film.

The hard-hitting trailer has raised expectations for the film which hits the screens on August 12.

When The Great Khali trained TV actor Danish Akhtar Saifi

0

Actor Danish Akhtar Saifi, who is known for playing Nandi in ‘Baal Shiv’, took formal wrestling training from The Great Khali.

Danish speaks about his journey from a wrestler to an actor and says: “I hail from Bihar, where wrestling is enjoyed by many. And in a similar vein, I used to be fascinated by wrestling. I was young when I decided to be a wrestler and it was my father whom I told for the first time. He motivated me for it. He made me go through years of intense training and a strict regimen, which greatly helped me get that kind of fitness and energy in my body.”

“I admired WWE a lot and wanted to become an international wrestler. Since facilities were not available in my city to learn wrestling, I went to Jalandhar and started training.”

The ‘Siya Ke Ram’ actor reveals the beginning of his career as an actor.

He says: “In 2010, I went to the National School of Bodybuilding, Jalandhar and took a six-month training which helped to gain a wrestler’s body and then moved to Delhi and initially started working as a gym trainer. While in Jalandhar, I connected with The Great Khali’s brother. So, one day he called me and said, ‘selectors are coming from WWE, and I think you are fit for it. Can you come back to Jalandhar for it?’ I decided to go back in no time.”

“Khali Sir had personally trained me for six months before the election in his academy CWE (Continental Wrestling Entertainment). I remember around four to five thousand people had come for the selection, out of which only five or six were shortlisted, and I was one of them. But due to some paperwork, I could not fly to America then. After that, I came to Mumbai, and my acting career began.”

Danish shares how he got his first break and says: “For a mythological show, auditions were happening; the makers were looking for someone tall, extremely strong, and muscular, with a clean image. A casting friend of mine suggested, ‘I should go for the audition’, and in the very first audition, I got selected for Hanuman’s role.”

“I never thought that I would end up in this field. It was Director Nikhil Sinha’s vision that convinced me to try out for this role. I had to work a lot on my acting skills, and for almost three months, I studied the character to portray it in the desired way.”

On his inclination towards doing mythological shows, he says: “I have portrayed Hanuman on two occasions, Bheem in a Kannada movie and now Nandi in ‘Baal Shiv’. I am incredibly grateful for it. I have received accolades from the audience for every mythological role I have ever played. And I believe their support and acceptance persuades the makers to choose me for such characters, and they continue to offer me similar roles.”

“However, I would also like to give some credit to my physical appearance, which probably makes them think of me for such devotional characteristics. And to be honest, I will do any mythological show that comes my way,” he concludes.

‘Jiivi 2’ to release on OTT platform

0

Director V J Gopinath’s eagerly-awaited entertainer, ‘Jiivi 2’ is to have a direct release on the OTT platform Aha.

The film has huge expectations riding on it as it is a sequel to ‘Jiivi’, a critically acclaimed superhit film featuring actors Vetri and Karunakaran in the lead.

The premise of ‘Jiivi’s’ story is based on the Triangle theory which is about a series of events happening in a person’s life repeating itself in another person’s life in a different place. In ‘Jiivi’, the protagonist realizes this situation and attempts to stop the chain of events.

“In the fag end of part one, the protagonist’s friend asks him whether the Triangle theory has ended or whether it will continue to exist. This is where the story of ‘Jiivi-2′ commences,” director V J Gopinath had disclosed during an earlier interview.

Interestingly, the director completed the script of the sequel in a matter of just two days.

Vetri, Karunakaran, Aswini Chandrashekar, Rama, Rohini, Mime Gopi, and aAruvi’ fame Thirunavukarasu, who played the titular roles in the first part, are all reprising their characters in the sequel.

While Babu Tamizh had written the story and dialogues for ‘Jiivi-1’, director VJ Gopinath himself penned the story for ‘Jiivi-2’.

The same technical crew that made ‘Jiivi’ has been retained for ‘Jiivi 2’. Praveen Kumar is the director of photography for the film, which has music by K.S. Sundaramoorthy and editing by Praveen K.L.

‘Joker’ sequel sets Oct 2024 release date, Lady Gaga expected to play Harley Quinn

0

Joaquin Phoenix is returning to the theatres with the sequel of his 2019 release ‘Joker’, titled ‘Joker: Folie A Deux’ in 2024.

The film will debut in theatres on October 4, 2024, a little over five years after the first part directed by Todd Philips film hit the screens back in 2019, reports Variety.

The sequel will be a musical (the original was squarely a dark and gritty drama), with none other than Lady Gaga expected to play the Clown Prince of Crime’s co-conspirator Harley Quinn.

According to ‘Variety, ‘Joker’ was supposed to be a standalone film, but after the R-rated tentpole generated more than $1 billion globally and earned Phoenix an Oscar, a sequel was preordained.

Naturally, the actor is asking for big bucks to reprise his sinister role as Arthur Fleck; Phoenix’s paycheck for ‘Folie A Deux’ will be $20 million.

Warner Bros. announced the release date on Wednesday (Pacific Standard Time) on the heels of news that the studio has scrapped its $90 million-budgeted ‘Batgirl,’ despite the DC film is nearly complete. The axing of ‘Batgirl,’ which will not be released in theatres or on HBO Max, rocked the industry because studios almost never shelve productions outright.

‘Variety’ further states that Todd Phillips, who steered ‘Joker’ to 11 Academy Award nominations in total, is returning to direct the sequel. He’s also co-writing the screenplay with Scott Silver. The first movie cost $62.5 million to produce, an unusually conservative budget for a comic book adaptation.

‘Joker’ became massively profitable, but Warner Bros. had to split revenues with co-financiers Bron Creative and Village Roadshow.

‘Bullet Train’ director loves ‘bold choices’ that Indian films make in action sequences

0

Known for making entertaining actioners such as ‘John Wick’, ‘Deadpool 2’, ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ and the forthcoming Brad Pitt-starrer Bullet Train’, filmmaker David Leitch has praised Indian action movies for their bold choices and asserted that it is fun to watch.

The 46-year-old filmmaker finds it “inspiring in a lot of ways.”

He added: “Because action can get stale and I think some of the things that they are doing in India are going full out and it’s fun to watch.”

Before making his directorial debut with Chad Stahelski in 2014 with the Keanu Reeves-starrer John Wick’, Leitch served as a stunt performer and coordinator. He was also a stunt double for Brad Pitt five times and two times for Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Does he get his bent towards the action genre, courtesy of his love for stunts?

Leitch said: “Well, I think it’s in my DNA I had 20+ years of being a stunt performer, coordinator, and action designer and I love action in films. I think it is another layer of drama and you can do things in action sequences to define characters and ways you can’t do in a dialogue scene.”

He added: “So, I think it is really compelling for the story-telling that I do to have an action component and I know how to manipulate it in the right way.”

The filmmaker is all pepped up for the release of his forthcoming film ‘Bullet Train’, which hits the Indian screens a day prior to the US.

The film is based on the Japanese novel ‘Maria Beetle’ published in English as ‘Bullet Train by Kotaro Isaka. The film stars Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Zazie Beetz, Benito A Martinez Ocasio, and Sandra Bullock.

Leitch shared that the film was being shot amid the height of the Covid pandemic.

Talking about having a star-studded cast, he said: “Well, it turned out to be relatively easy but maybe fate had something to do with it. We were shooting at the height of the pandemic. We were filming in LA because we couldn’t go to Japan and we were one of the first projects out of the gates so there was a lot of interest.”

“The collaboration between Brad and I allowed a lot of actors to come to the table and raise their hand and we got a great group of people. I can’t see the movie in any other incarnation now. It’s amazing.”

Leitch also paid serious attention to the theme track of the film, which he described as a “very important piece of the puzzle.”

“I love music in my movies. It’s always a very important piece of the puzzle for me to find the soundtrack of the movie early on and I felt that the theme song ‘Staying Alive’ was so appropriate for Lady Bug – Brad’s character and to subvert it doing the Japanese cover became the inspiration for the rest of the soundtrack.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release ‘Bullet Train’ on August 4 in languages — English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Aamir reveals why he’s not in a hurry to release ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ on OTT

0

Even as anticipation surrounds the theatrical release of Aamir Khan’s film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, the star has made it clear that he is in no particular hurry to stream the movie on OTT.

While most films release on OTT soon after they hit the cinema, Aamir Khan is not in favor of an early OTT release.

He says: “One of the reasons primarily I think the curiosity of going to theaters has reduced because films come on OTT right after they come in theaters, they come on OTT very fast.”

“So I have always tried to keep a 6-month gap for my films. I don’t know what the industry follows, but I like to keep a 6-month gap. So that’s what I tried to do for all my films and up till now, we have managed that.”

The star has been creating a buzz with a series of events centered around the film’s trailers and teasers.

Meanwhile, the trailer of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is receiving love from all quarters. The audience is looking forward to seeing Aamir Khan depict the life journey of Laal Singh Chadha.

‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kiran Rao, and Viacom18 Studios, also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Chaitanya Akkineni. It is an official remake of ‘Forrest Gump’.

The film will be released on August 11.

Time makes you forget your problems, says Priya Bhavani Shankar

0

Urging those going through tough times to hang in there and wear a smile, actress Priya Bhavani Shankar on Wednesday said that worrying was overrated and that time would make one forget their problems.

Taking time to pen a long post on Instagram, the actress posted a video clip containing pictures and clips shot during her trip to Cambodia.

Along with the video clip, she wrote: “Flavours of Cambodia. This memory from three years back popped up on my phone and got me thinking.

“I was emotionally in a very dark place. I woke up that morning and wanted to run away from everything. That evening, without any plans we hopped onto a flight.”

“Looking back, it feels like I was distressed for nothing. What I thought would kill me, No it didn’t. I survived. It doesn’t matter anymore and to a level, it’s funny how I thought that was the end of the world.”So if you are someone who is going through a tough time, this is for you. I would like to tell you IT IS OK. It’s a phase and you will get through this. NOTHING IS THE END. You will have a new set of problems in another three years. You’ll develop the strength to laugh at your old problems.”

“Hang in there. Wear that smile and live. Because problems and disappointments are always going to be there. Looking back you don’t want to see regrets but how you lived through it.”

“Time makes you forget your problems but you will remember the person who was holding you through tough times, the flavors of the food you had, and the memories you made. WORRYING IS OVERRATED,” she said.

Telugu movie ‘Bimbisara’ to release in North with subtitles only

0

The release of dubbed versions is acknowledged as a major factor behind the recent successes of several pan-Indian movies from down South. But in an interesting move that goes against the trend, the Telugu movie ‘Bimbisara’ produced by NTR Arts will be taking the subtitling route to outside markets.

In the wake of RRR, KGF2, and Pushpa’s super success, the lavishly-mounted fantasy action drama, Bimbisara, is targeting a wide release on August 5, 2022. UFO Moviez, which recently distributed much loved ‘777 Charlie’ and ‘Rocketry’, will release the Telugu film in North India with English subtitles.

The spokesperson for UFO Moviez points out that during the Coronavirus-triggered pandemic, when people were locked in their homes for months together, they devoured content from across India and the world.

“As a result, language is no longer a barrier and they are now open to watching content with subtitles. OTT has changed viewing habits and we are confident that a good film in any language will bring people to the theatre,” he asserts, promising that Bimbisara which offers a larger-than-life, big screen experience will not disappoint.

‘Bimbisara’ stars Jr. NTR’s brother Nandamuri Kalyan Ram in the title role of the Emperor of Magadh in the 5th century BC, along with Catherine Tresa, Samyuktha Menon, and Warina Hussain.

The film is produced by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s home banner NTR Arts, which despite intense competition from other filmmakers, was able to put together this massive project.
