When Sridevi, Jaya Prada were locked in a room by Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra

Veteran actress Jaya Prada has recalled an amusing incident involving her and the late superstar, Sridevi, from back in the day when the two actresses were considered top competition to each other.

The year was 1984 and the two heroines were shooting for the film “Maqsad” with Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra. Realising Sridevi and Jaya Prada wouldn’t speak to each other, the two lead actors devised a plan.

“It’s never been that we had any personal grudge against each other but it is just that our chemistry never matched. We never had eye contact with each other as we both were in competition, be it dresses or dance. Every single time we met we were first introduced on set, and we would say namaste to each other and move ahead,” Jaya recalled.

She went on to reveal: “I still remember, during the shoot of Maqsad, Jeetu ji and Rajesh Khanna Ji locked us in a makeup room for an hour but we both did not even say a word and everyone gave it upon us!”

However, Jaya Prada says does miss Sridevi, who passed away in 2018. She regrets not talking to her enough.

“Today, as she is not here, I miss her a lot. I feel alone because she was a renowned competitor in the Bollywood industry. Through this platform, I would also like to say that if somewhere she is listening to me, I would just say that I wish we could talk to each other,” said Jaya, while speaking on the set of “Indian Idol 12”, which airs on Sony Entertainment Television.

Lakshmi Manchu: Our fear of pandemic gets instilled in our children

Hyderabad, April 20,(Telugu Bullet)  Telugu actress Lakshmi Manchu, whose YouTube series “Chitti Chilakamma” on parenting has been getting a good response, says amid the latest Covid surge, parents need to be aware that their fear of the pandemic can affect their children, too.

Mother of six-year-old daughter Nirwana, Lakshmi feels it is important to have a healthy dialogue with children around what is happening.

“There is more need for content like this because we are clueless. Right now we are so scared because of the pandemic, and that fear is being instilled in our children, ” Lakshmi says

She says the effort on her show is to source content that helps, in this context. “Looking at content where we can do activities and how to really address our children’s problems gives us more tools and power to handle our children, ” she says.

The actress often brings her daughter on the show, especially if there is a fitness episode. “I believe that at times like this when kids are so glued to their phones, iPads and the television, it is important to encourage physical activities with our kids and let it be very simple. That is why I like bringing Nirvana at my workout sessions — not that she does the entire session, but sometimes she likes to do certain workouts that she finds difficult or maybe she likes to show off how well she can stretch. All of this is encouragement for them to move and not be stuck in one place,” says Lakshmi.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra: People across the world will identify with ‘Toofaan’

Mumbai, April 20,(Telugu Bullet)   Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra feels his upcoming boxing film “Toofaan” is an underdog tale about “spreading love”, which is why the audience is sure to connect with the Farhan Akhtar-starrer.

“Toofaan is a story of an underdog and most importantly, it’s a story about spreading love rather than creating differences. Every country, whether rich or poor, is going through some issue or the other and we all carry wounds. Toofaan is not an attempt to scratch those wounds, but to apply a soothing balm. Anybody from any part of the world will identify with that,” he says.

Also, boxing is a sport that people from all countries can relate to, says Mehra.

“Boxing is one of the most famous sports in the world — America, South America, Russia and Europe among others are all boxing countries. So, there is identification with the film all over the world,” he says.

He also talks about gender discrimination and women empowerment.

“Toofaan also has a very strong and assertive role of the female protagonist. While we’ve seen the emergence of female power in the last decade, there are miles to go. We have to question and shed our beliefs of how we look at the other sex and our biases and Mrunal (Thakur)’s role as Ananya does just that. The diaspora around and especially women will relate to it,” he says.

“Toofaan” will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on May 21.
