4 laws, including the Delhi Services Bill, receive Prez murmu’s approval
President Droupadi Murmu granted her assent to the Delhi Services Bill and three other bills on Saturday. With the President’s approval, all four bills are now set to become laws.
One of these bills is the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023. This bill, which generated significant discussion during the recent Monsoon Session of Parliament, replaces the ordinance concerning the transfers and postings of senior officials within the Delhi government. Despite opposition uproar, the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Monday and in the Lok Sabha on August 3.
The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill (DPDPB), 2023, was approved in the Lok Sabha through a voice vote on Monday. A similar voting process occurred in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, even though the Opposition walked out of the House due to their request for a detailed discussion on the situation in Manipur.
The President also granted assent to the Jan Vishwas Bill and the Registration of Births and Deaths Bill. The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023, received approval from the Rajya Sabha on August 2 through a voice vote, while the Lok Sabha passed it on July 27.
