Agarjuna Predicts a Slump in Telugu Film Industry: “A Fourth One Is Coming”
Veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has made a bold prediction about the future of Tollywood, suggesting that the industry is heading toward another major setback. As the star actively promotes his upcoming film Kuberaa, which also stars Dhanush, he opened up in a candid interview with Bharadwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus.
When asked about the perception that Bollywood is struggling while South Indian cinema is thriving, Nagarjuna offered a balanced take. “These narratives keep changing. It’s like an actor or director going through a rough patch,” he said, noting that a string of non-performing films can unfairly define an entire industry.
But the most striking comment came when he turned the lens inward: “The Telugu film industry has gone through a slump three times in my experience—and I strongly feel a fourth one is on the way,” Nagarjuna said. He explained that such slumps typically occur when there are long gaps between big releases and the existing films fail to perform at the box office. “I have a strong hunch,” he concluded.
With Kuberaa and Coolie—both featuring Nagarjuna in key roles—gearing up for release, the star’s remarks have sparked serious discussion within industry circles and among fans.
