Filmmaker Namit Malhotra, the producer behind the ambitious upcoming Ramayana adaptation, has revealed that his biggest inspiration for taking on the epic project came from SS Rajamouli’s RRR. Speaking about the global impact of RRR, Namit said it reshaped how the world perceives Indian cinema and gave him the confidence to bring Ramayana to life on a world-class scale.
When the Ramayana film was first announced, many skeptics feared it might follow the path of Adipurush, which faced criticism for its visual treatment and tone. However, a recently released glimpse from the film changed that narrative. The visuals indicated a serious, richly detailed, and grand retelling, instantly elevating expectations.
Namit confirmed that the film is being made across two parts with a staggering budget of ₹4,000 crore, involving top international technicians to ensure a cinematic experience that resonates globally. While this budget raised eyebrows across the industry, Namit stood by the vision.
“RRR was a turning point,” he said. “While movies like Gandhi and Slumdog Millionaire brought Indian stories to the world, it was RRR that showcased Indian storytelling with grandeur and strength. That’s the legacy I want Ramayana to follow.”
He added that the world’s view of India is evolving. “People once saw Indians as poor or struggling. That image is outdated. India is a land of power, legacy, and spiritual depth—and Ramayana stands at the root of that identity.”
Calling Ramayana one of the greatest mythological stories ever told, Namit emphasized that the film isn’t just for Indian audiences but for global moviegoers who love epic storytelling. His vision is to present the Ramayana not just as a story, but as a global cinematic experience.
