The National sports awards which are generally hung on August 29 to celebrate the birthday of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, was pushed to September 25 this year to avoid conflict of dates with the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang on September 2.
Team India Skipper and cricketer Virat Kohli sent the shutterbugs into a clicking free for all as he got the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, offering the nation’s most prestigious award to humble weightlifting champion Mirabai Chanu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here Tuesday.
Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won gold medal in the Commonwealth and Asian Games this year, and sprinter Hima Das were among the 20 sportspersons who got the Arjuna Awards from President Ram Nath Kovind.
