Diamond jewelry designer Nirav Modi becomes the highest-worth will-defaulter to Indian banks after the 11,400-crore PNB Scam was exposed. He thus overtook Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya. The investigative agencies which are thoroughly examining last 5 years bank transactions of the designer, revealed a shocking fact.

It is understood that Nirav Modi deposited Rs 90 crores in cash, comprising of the OHD notes, old 500 rupee and 1000 rupee notes in the PNB Mumbai branch, the center of the scam. The deposit took place just before hours Modi came out with the demonetization announcement. It is understood that someone from the Central Government might have informed about the ‘demonetization’ move to Nirav Modi even before it became public.

The investigative agencies are suspecting that Nirav might have exchanged the liquid cash either into gold or into other forms. With fresh news breaking, the Indian markets are currently having a tough time. The Foreign Investors have withdrawn over Rs 10,000 crore in the few days or so.Other banks related to this scam are also facing the music. The Punjab National Bank lost over Rs 10940 crores capital value since the Rs 11,400-crore scam broke out.
