The Indian government announced the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma awardees commemorating the 68th Republic Day of India. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has given his nod for conferment 85 awards this year. Last year, 89 awards were conferred. The 85 awardees comprise 3 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Vibhushan and 73 Padma Shri. Women received 14 of these awards. And as per the NRI quota, 16 awards were given to Foreigners.

‘Music Maestro’ Ilaiyraaja was conferred with Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award after Bharat Ratna. The music composer has composed over 5,000 songs and worked for over 1000 movies in a career spanning over 30 years. He was conferred with Padma Bhushan in 2010.

Recognizing his services to the Indian National cricket team, former Indian cricket captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni was conferred with Padma Bhushan Award. In fact, it is under Dhoni captaincy, India won inaugural T20 Cricket World Cup in 2007, and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. Similarly, Billiards player Pankaj Advani has been awarded Padma Bhushan. In fact, Panjak Advani is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time in Billiards.

Similarly, Badminton player, Kidambi Srikanth, from Andhra Pradesh was conferred with Padma Shri award. Srikanth won 6 titles last year. He is another jewel that shone under Pullela Gopichand. He is currently ranked World No.3.
