PM Modi departs for the BRICS summit in Johannesburg

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for South Africa to participate in the 15th BRICS summit. He expressed confidence that this summit would serve as a valuable opportunity for BRICS member nations to identify future areas of collaboration and assess institutional development.

In his departure statement, Modi highlighted that BRICS has been actively pursuing a robust cooperative agenda spanning various sectors. He emphasized the significance of BRICS as a platform for discussing and deliberating on issues of global concern, including development priorities and the reform of the multilateral system.

Modi also took to X to announce his departure, saying, “I am leaving for South Africa to attend the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. I will also participate in the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue events. The Summit will provide a platform for discussing issues relevant to the Global South and other developmental aspects.” He expressed anticipation regarding interactions with guest countries invited to partake in this event and looked forward to bilateral meetings with some of the attending leaders.
