G20 Presidency is a measure of trust in India: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday unveiled the logo, theme, and website of India’s G20 Presidency via video-conferencing, saying that it reflects the country’s “message and overarching priorities” to the world.

India will assume the G20 Presidency on December 1 from the current President of Indonesia.

“India is set to assume G20 Presidency. It is a moment of pride for 130 crore Indians. The notion of universal brotherhood is being reflected via the G20 logo. The lotus in the logo of G20 is a symbol of hope in these tough times,” the Prime Minister said.

“G20 Presidency is not merely a diplomatic meeting for India, it is a new responsibility and a measure of the world’s trust in India.

“Environment is a global cause for us as well as personal responsibility. It will be our effort that there should be no first world or third world, but only one world. Our G20 mantra is – One Earth, One Family, One Future,” Modi said.

“G20 will not be limited to Delhi or a few places. Every citizen, state government, and political party should participate in it,” he emphasized.

TRS seeks objections on move to become BRS

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has sought objections to its decision to change its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

A month after taking a decision to change the name, Telangana’s ruling party has issued a public notice in this regard.

Issued in the name of the party president, the notice informs the public that TRS proposes to change its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

“If anyone has any objection to the proposed new name, they may send their objection with the reasons thereof, to the secretary (political party), Election Commission of India, Nirvachan Sadan, Ashoka Road, New Delhi, 110001 within 30 days of the publication,” reads the notice.

The notice was issued a day after TRS registered victory in Munugode Assembly by-election. This was first electoral win for the party following the decision to change its name.

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday spoke about the delay on part of the Election Commission of India in deciding on the party’s request to recognise BRS as a national party.

On October 5, an extended general body meeting of TRS presided by party president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had passed a resolution to change the name of the party to BRS to expand its activities nation-wide. The meeting also amended the party Constitution in this regard.

The next day, TRS had informed the Election Commission of India of its decision to change its name.

A delegation of party leaders led by former MP B. Vinod Kumar met officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi and handed over a copy of the resolution adopted at TRS general body meeting.

The ECI officials had told the delegation that they would take further action after taking into consideration objections, if any.

It was in 2001 that KCR had floated TRS to revive the movement for separate statehood to Telangana. After achieving the goal in 2014 following a 13-year-long struggle, he formed the first government in the new state and retained power in 2018.

Launching his election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday pleaded electorates in this Himachal Pradesh town with a promise to set ‘naya rivaj’ (new tradition) to re-elect the BJP government in the state.

Eyeing to woo female voters, who outnumbered male voters in every election, he asked them to visit door to door in this area to convey “my greetings” to them as this time elections are very crucial.

“The people of Himachal are determined to make a strong comeback of the BJP government. This land of soldiers, this land of brave mothers, when it takes a resolution, it only shows it by proving it,” said Modi, who donned a Himachali cap, in his nearly 40-minute address in this town in Mandi — the home district of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

On his arrival, Modi was extended rousing reception by party workers and sympathizers, some donning traditional dresses. Many women were present en route, waving their hands at the Prime Minister’s arrival.

The Prime Minister said this time Himachal’s election is special. “This time, one vote each, to be held on November 12, will decide the development journey of Himachal for the next 25 years.”

Trying to build an emotional bond, Modi said: “I have visited Sundernagar several times before. I have also trekked inaccessible areas of Siraj, Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kangra. The roads here, such a beautiful BBMB lake of Sundernagar, how can anyone forget.”

Taking a jibe at the state’s main opposition Congress on the day it launched its poll manifesto, the Prime Minister said for the party staying in the government has been like running erstwhile kingdoms.

“Making false promises and giving false poll guarantees has been an old trick of the Congress. The country is witnessing that to how the Congress has been lying in the name of loan waiver of the farmers.”

Batting for a double-engine government that has given the state new infrastructure in every step, Modi emphasized that when there was the BJP government in Delhi and Himachal, the work was going on a fast pace.

“But as the Congress comes back, all development comes to a standstill.”

The Congress has always downplayed the role of Himachal Pradesh in national politics because they felt that the state was small and sent three-four members to the Parliament. “These were the reasons why Himachal never reached the heights of development.”

Amidst chants of “Modi-Modi” by the audience, largely the women, the Prime Minister was categorically clear in saying that development in the state was possible as people have voted the BJP to power both in the Centre and in the state.

“Today with the double-engine government, gas cylinders have reached every household. Electricity has reached everywhere, roads have also been built, water has also reached.”

Playing the religious card, Modi said the BJP has resolved to build Ram Temple. “Today such a grand Ram temple is being built in Ayodhya.”

Paying tributes to Shyam Saran Negi, 106, the first voter of independent India who cast his 34th vote for the forthcoming Assembly polls three days ago, who passed away at his native place Kalpa on Saturday, Modi said when he was coming from Delhi, he received the unfortunate news of the demise of India’s first voter.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi donned the role of Potharaju symbolically whipping himself during Bharat Jodo Yatra in Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Thursday.

Participating in Bonalu, a traditional festival of Telangana, along with party MLA Jagga Reddy, Rahul Gandhi whipped himself.

Potharaju is a character in annual Bonalu processions taken out in Telangana. He is considered to be the brother of seven sister goddesses — different forms of the goddess ‘Mahankali’.

Leading the procession, Potharaju carries a whip and lashes against his body to the sound of drum beats.

During his Yatra, the Congress MP has been interacting with local people, dancing with local cultural artists or playing with children.

A day after playing cricket with children during the yatra, Rahul Gandhi turned Potharaju much to the excitement of other leaders and workers walking with him.

Former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Ramdas and his wife and social activist Lalita Ramdas also joined the yatra.

On the ninth day of his march in Telangana, the yatra entered Sangareddy district.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief A. Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MP Uttam Kumar Reddy and several other leaders and scores of party workers were participating in the yatra.

The foot march will continue in Telangana till November 7 with one-day break on November 4.

It will cover a total distance of 375 kms in 19 Assembly and seven Parliamentary constituencies in the state. From Telangana, the yatra will enter Maharashtra on November 7.

Yogi orders demotion of ‘corrupt’ police official in UP

In an unprecedented move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the demotion of a deputy superintendent of police after he was found guilty of accepting bribes to suppress a rape case.

The officer is now a constable — the post on which he began his career.

According to official sources, DSP Vidya Kishore Sharma, has been demoted after the government took cognisance of a video of him accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.

Sharma was the DSP when the incident took place in 2021. He was later transferred.

A woman had alleged last year that the owner of Swami Vivekanand Hospital and Inspector Ramveer Yadav had gang-raped her but the police was not acting on her complaint.

She also alleged the police official had accepted a bribe from the accused.

The UP administration suspended the inspector and ordered an FIR against Yadav.

A probe was launched which found Sharma guilty of accepting the bribe. Sharma had been on suspension before being demoted.

Actress-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt on Wednesday briefly joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which resumed in Hyderabad.

Bhatt walked with the Congress MP for some distance after he resumed the rally from Balanagar after the night-halt at Bowenpally.

For the second consecutive day, the foot march continued in Hyderabad.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief A. Revanth Reddy, Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MP Uttam Kumar Reddy and several other leaders and scores of party workers were participating in the yatra.

The rally will halt at a hotel at Hafeezpet, Madinaguda for a mid-day break.

The walkathon will resume in the evening from BHEL bus stand and halt at Muthangi with a corner meeting.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge interacted with Yatris at Bowenpally.

“They too are walking 3500 km with Rahul Gandhi and are a source of great inspiration to our party cadres. The yatra is bringing about a silent revolution that will change the political landscape,” tweeted Kharge.

The newly-elected president of the party joined the yatra last night and addressed a public meeting at Necklace Road along with Rahul Gandhi.

The Cyberabad police have imposed traffic restrictions in the limits of Madhapur traffic division in view of the Yatra. Traffic curbs will be in place till 6 p.m.

Wednesday is the eighth day of the yatra in Telangana.

The foot march will continue in Telangana till November 7 with one-day break on November 4.

It will cover a total distance of 375 kms in 19 Assembly and 7 Parliamentary constituencies in the state.

From Telangana the yatra will enter Maharashtra.

President Droupadi Murmu would visit Nagaland on November 2 and 3, on her second visit to the northeastern region after assuming office, officials said on Friday.

Officials said that the President would attend a number of events while the state government would accord her a civic reception at Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima on November 2.

The state government has invited Presidents and other leaders of the 22 tribal organizations to attend the civic reception wearing their traditional shawls.

President Murmu earlier this month visited Tripura (October 12-13) and Assam (October 13-14) and laid foundation stones and inaugurated a slew of projects.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of four projects costing more than Rs 6,600 crore at a program here.

Besides, he also laid the foundation stone of the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Project costing about Rs 5,618 crore, and inaugurated Rail Coach Refurbishment Factory at Barhi in Sonipat district costing Rs 590 crore.

The Union Home Minister also inaugurated the country’s first longest elevated railway track built in Rohtak at a cost of Rs 315.40 crore.

Along with this, the Haryana Police residence complex at Bhondsi built at the cost of Rs 106 crore was also inaugurated by Shah. About 576 police families will be able to live in the police residential complex.

After inaugurating various schemes and laying the foundation stone, the Home Minister said all these development projects are Deepawali gifts from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of Haryana.

Earlier, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar and state BJP president O.P. Dhankhar felicitated Shah by presenting flower garlands and a shawl.

Along with this, the Union Minister of Railways and Communications, Ashwini Vaishnav, also received a warm welcome as he was also presented with a shawl.

Later addressing the gathering, Shah greatly appreciated the work of the Haryana government and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. He congratulated the people of Haryana on the successful completion of 8 years of the Haryana government.

“Manohar Lal has completed his tenure of eight years in a very successful manner. In these eight years, he has ensured the holistic development of the state. The Haryana government under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal has done commendable work in transforming Haryana in these eight years. After a long time, since independence, Haryana has got such an honest and dedicated Chief Minister,” said Shah.

“If we recall the previous regime, corruption and lawlessness used to be the main issues but since the time Manohar Lal led government has taken the charge, not only the corruption and lawlessness have ended but the state has also progressed swiftly on the path of development to bring Haryana to the top,” said the Union Home Minister.

He said that Khattar has taken care of all sections.

While comparing the working style of the Manohar Lal government with the previous governments, Shah said that the tenure of our government in these eight years will always have an upper hand over the 50-year rule of previous governments.

During this, the Union Home Minister also mentioned the achievements of the Haryana government achieved in the last 8 years and congratulated his entire team including the Chief Minister.

The CPI(M) in West Bengal is actually happy after Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee blamed the party for driving out the Tatas from Singur.

According to a top leader, such remarks only go to show that the Trinamool Congress considers the CPI(M) its greatest challenge in the panchayat elections slated to be held in a few months.

“Mamata Banerjee realizes that the CPI(M) has regained quite a bit of lost ground in the rural belts of West Bengal, particularly after exposure of the teacher recruitment and cattle smuggling scams in which top Trinamool Congress leaders are allegedly involved. The CPM, along with its allies, organized several protests across the state. These were well accepted by the people. Mamata Banerjee knows that the CPI(M) will give it a tough fight in the panchayat elections. Hence, such statements tarnish the image of the party,” the CPI(M) leader said.

Over the last few days, after the Durga Puja, Mamata Banerjee has been denying that she or the Trinamool Congress had any role in not allowing the Tata Motors small car factory to come up in Singur, Hooghly.

According to her, she had only fought for unwilling farmers who were forced to part with land for the factory. “It was the CPI(M) that was responsible for the mess. We just wanted land acquired from unwilling farmers to be returned. There were other plots available nearby that could have been used for the factory,” she has been saying.

According to another CPI(M) leader, such statements are being made by Mamata Banerjee and her party colleagues, including minister Firhad Hakim, as the masses are suffering due to the dismal economic condition in the state. Despite holding several business summits, the West Bengal government hasn’t been able to attract large investors. Many continue to blame the Trinamool Congress for its role in driving out Tata Motors from Singur which may have shaken the confidence of other investors.

The BJP in West Bengal has lost a lot of ground, thanks to internal squabbles over leadership. Even after the 2021 Assembly elections in West Bengal, in which the BJP’s performance left much to be desired, the party was considered the main threat to the Trinamool Congress. However, unlike the CPI(M), the BJP failed to take advantage of the situation even after the arrests of leaders like Partha Chatterjee and Anubrata Mandal. Rather, the rift within the state unit of the party was made public through irresponsible statements by its leaders.

Modi keeps his word, dons traditional Himachali attire

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday offered prayers at Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district donning a tradition Himachali attire gifted to him by a Chamba woman.

The Prime Minister was gifted the attire on his recent visit to Himachal Pradesh and he had promised her to wear it during a special occasion.

When the Prime Minister inaugurated the Kedarnath ropeway, the entire temple premises reverberated with Lord Shiva’s devotional songs.

Uttarakhand Governor Lt General (Retd) Gurmeet Singh, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and state Cabinet Minister Prem Chandra Agarwal, among others, were present on the occasion.

India’s last village Mana is all set to welcome the Prime Minister. After offering prayers at Badrinath, he is scheduled to review the construction work underway under the Master Plan.

After inaugurating a ropeway for Hemkund Sahib, he will also lay the foundation stone for the double-lining of roads in Mana.

He will also address the villagers of Mana.
