KCR’s national politics to take wing on TRS aircraft

Ahead of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s imminent entry into national politics, the ruling TRS party has decided to purchase an aircraft so that he can jet across the country, sources said.

The decision was taken on Thursday, to buy a small aircraft with a capacity of 6 – 8-seats, at around Rs 80 crore, the sources explained.

According to the sources, the order for the aircraft will be placed on the auspicious Vijaya Dasami, October 5, soon after the formal announcement of the national party by KCR.

The Telangana chief minister and TRS supremo have been visiting different opposition-ruled states in his efforts to create a national alternative to the BJP at the center. He had used chartered aircraft to visit states like Maharashtra, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu during his recent visits there.

BJP fighting family-based parties, Odisha needs double-engine govt: Nadda

BJP national President Jagat Prakash Nadda said on Thursday that the saffron party is fighting family-based parties in various parts of the country, including in Odisha.

Addressing booth-level workers at the Janata Maidan here, Nadda said BJP is the biggest political party in the world with a strength of 18 crores.

“There is no party in the world with such strength. We are an ideology-based national party. For us, it is always nation first, but keeping in mind the regional aspirations,” he said.

“This is a cadre-based party with a mass following. After the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, we formed government in Bihar, Assam, and Puducherry for the first time… So, we are a national party with the government in maximum states,” Nadda said.

“Today we are fighting against the Indian National Congress, but the party no longer remains national nor Indian as it has become a party of brother and sister,” he said.

“We are also fighting against dynasty-based parties. Abdullahs and Muftis in Jammu & Kashmir, Chautalas in Haryana, Badals in Punjab, Akhilesh in UP, Yadav in Bihar, and Soren in Jharkhanda. In Odisha it is one man party… We are fighting parties run by families,” he added.

“Dynasty politics is also prevalent in Odisha with the presence of Biju Patnaik’s party. BJP is the only party that is not family-based and is driven by ideology,” said the BJP chief.

Nadda also informed the party workers about the steps taken by the Narendra Modi government for providing safe drinking water, power supply, pucca houses, toilets, etc. for the people of Odisha.

Institutions like AIIMS, IIM, NISER, and many medical colleges have been set up by the Modi government in Odisha, he said.

“The first tribal President of India, Droupadi Murmu, is from Odisha and more than 15 persons from the state have been conferred with Padma awards. This was never the case during the UPA rule and shows PM Modi’s immense love for the state,” he added.

Taking a dig at the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in Odisha, Nadda said, “This government puts labels on Central schemes. The PM Awas Yojana is being branded as Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. While 50 crore people have been included under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, 60 lakh people in Odisha are deprived of it.”

The Centre has allocated Rs 15,490 crore to Odisha under MGNREGA but fake bills are being made here, he said.

“Similarly, crores of rupees are being spent under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Yet tribal women in Odisha are going to ponds and wells to fetch drinking water. It shows that the Naveen Patnaik-led government is riddled with corruption,” the BJP chief said.

Claiming that protectors have become perpetrators of crime in Odisha, Nadda said, “The state of governance in Odisha can be gauged from the fact that three ministers are accused of murder.”

Nadda added that even the ‘Ratna Bhandar’ of Lord Jagannath is not safe in Odisha.

“Ratna Bhandar’s key was missing and later a duplicate key was found. Uproot this type of duplicate government and bring BJP to power in Odisha,” he said.

“The BJD has been ruling Odisha for 20 years, yet it has failed to ensure ambulance service for pregnant women in the remote areas,” the BJP leader claimed.

It’s time to uproot this government and bring a double-engine ‘sarkar’ for development, Nadda told the party workers.

The BJP President is on a two-day visit to the state. This is Canada’s first visit to Odisha after being appointed as BJP chief.

YouTuber held for creating memes of Mamata Banerjee

The police on Tuesday arrested a YouTuber for creating memes targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The arrested person has been identified as Tuhin Mondal (30), whose mobile phone has also been confiscated by the police. The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by a person named Sagar Das.

It is learned that Mondal is a resident of Bapuji Nagar area in Taherpur in the Nadia district. Recently, the Chief Minister, while suggesting ways of alternative employment at a public event, had advised unemployed youth that if they sell ‘jhalmuri’ (spicy puffed rice) during Durga Puja, it can fetch them lucrative profit.

Banerjee also said that this small business can be the first step to becoming a millionaire in the coming days.

Her comments on this count attracted strong criticism from the opposition parties and within days lakhs of memes were circulated on social media ridiculing the Chief Minister’s comments.

Das filed the complaint at the Taratala police station in Kolkata accusing Mondal of circulating certain memes on social media which were ‘objectionable’, ‘contemptuous’, and had elements of spreading violence in society.

A team of Kolkata Police tracked the IP address from where the memes were posted to trace Mondal. On Tuesday, a team of Kolkata Police reached Taherpur and arrested Mondal, who is employed with a private bank.

President Murmu lauds HAL-ISRO partnership

Inaugurating HAL’s Integrated Cryogenic Engine Manufacturing Facility (ICMF) on Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu said it is not only a historic moment for HAL and ISRO but for the whole of India.

“India is the sixth country in the world to have cryogenic engine manufacturing capabilities. The glorious past of HAL and ISRO gives us an assurance that they will play a crucial role in the future,” she said.

ICMF will cater to the entire rocket manufacturing and assembly under one roof for ISRO. The facility will boost self-reliance in the manufacturing of high-thrust rocket engines.

The facility is set up in an area of 4,500 sq mt housing over 70 hi-tech equipment and testing facilities for manufacturing cryogenic (CE20) and semi-cryogenic engines (SE2000) of Indian space launch vehicles.

In 2013, an MOU was signed with ISRO for establishing the facility for manufacturing cryogenic engine modules at HAL. The MOU for the cryogenic engine facility was subsequently amended in 2016 with an investment of Rs 208 crore towards the setting up of the Integrated Cryogenic Engine Manufacturing Facility (ICMF).

S. Somanath, Secretary, Department of Space, said India can emerge as a superpower in rocket technology only with the help of HAL, which has shown the ability to absorb complicated space technology with perfection.

Cryogenic engines are the most widely used engines the world over in space launch vehicles. Due to the complex nature of the cryogenic engine, to date, only a few countries — the US, France, Japan, China, and Russia — have mastered the cryogenic technology.

On January 5, 2014, India successfully flew GSLV-D5 with a cryogenic engine (made by ISRO through private industries) and became the sixth country in developing cryogenic engines. Space exploration in the future is mostly dependent upon cryogenic technology.

Amit Shah was instrumental in removing Article 370: BJP leader

At a time when the leaders of the ruling Mahagathbandhan in Bihar are training their guns at Union Home Minister Amit Shah following his visit to Seemanchal on Friday, Nikhil Anand, state BJP spokesperson and national general secretary of the party’s OBC wing, lauded Shah for playing an instrumental role in removing Articles 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir.

“After Amit Shah’s visit to Seemanchal, many of the grand alliance leaders are having headache and stomach ache. After seeing the way scores of people turned out for his rally in Purnea, the leaders of the Mahagathbandhan are feeling uneasy due to the popularity of Amit Shah,” Anand said.

Reacting to the statement of RJD’s Lalan Singh, who had said that when he was involved in the JP movement in 1974, Amit Shah was just 10 years old, Anand said: “Amit Shah is the young generation leader of the country and his fame is acknowledged across the world ever since he removed Articles 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir, which granted special status to the erstwhile state of J&K.

“Similarly, during the JP movement, some small stature leaders were following the big leaders and entertaining them. At present, some of the self-declared ‘Chutbhaiye Netas’ (small time leaders) are claiming to be JP commanders.”

“It is unfortunate that the real heroes of the JP movement are deprived of the JP pension scheme and the self-declared fake leaders of the movement are enjoying power being part of the government. The soul of Jay Prakash Narayan must be in deep pain after seeing the selfishness of the leaders of the ruling government,” Anand said.

This year, 16 Urban Local Bodies (ULB), in the state have bagged Swachh Survekshan awards 2022 which will be presented in Delhi on October 1.

Selection for the awards was conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs which gave star ratings for the resolution of issues related to sanitation, and a garbage-free city, for the period July 2021 to January 2022.

A total of 90 topics were considered in the selection of the awards.

The awards have been announced in the categories of solid Waste Management, community level composting, public toilets, liquid waste management, awareness levels among people, management of community toilets, citizen engagement, innovation, and others.

Adibatla, Badangpet, Boothpur, Chandur, Chitral, Gajwel, Ghatkesar, Husnabad, Kompally, AKoratla, Kothapalli, Neredcherla, Sircilla, Turkayamjal and Vemulawada municipalities, and Secunderabad Cantonment have bagged the awards.

Minister for municipal administration and urban development, K.T. Rama Rao has congratulated all officials and employees of the ULBs.

He said that several programs were taken up for the improvement of cities under the direction of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Rama Rao said the achievement was possible because of CM KCR’s vision for the all-around development of urban local bodies in the state.

A lot of development is witnessed in towns and cities because of the state government’s pioneering Pattana Pragathi program and the new Municipal Act.

KTR said that the awards bagged over consecutive years are a testament to Telangana’s commitment to the all-around development of cities.

He claimed that the state is already a role model to the country with its pioneering policies and programs.

He added that the nationwide recognition, the Swachh Survekshan Awards, shows that Telangana is certainly a role model in urban development and administration too.

Cong, various groups slams Manipur govt order for prior approval on book publication

Manipur’s opposition Congress on Thursday vehemently criticized the BJP-led state government’s decision for prior approval of all the books on the state’s history, culture, tradition, and geography by a government committee before their publications.

Various civil society organizations and writers also criticised the state government’s decision.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Vice-President Hareshwar Goshwami said that they are not surprised by such acts of BJP and “it is simply a clear manifestation of their true fascist nature”.

“Their message is loud and clear. Think, what I think, or face the consequence. The new system is to shut our mouths before we speak. To stop our pens before we write. It completely violates the right to freedom and expression granted by our Constitution,” said Goshwami, also a renowned author.

“How can I share my hard-earned data and materials with others before I publish my book? I am a writer and I will definitely defy this order and face any consequence,” he added.

State Congress spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei said that the decision is “deeply disturbing and of serious concern to the future of intellectual freedom and academic rigor among the intellectual community and authors, readers and thinkers of Manipur”.

“It is cannot be accepted that the BJP government would decide what book to be published and what matters are to be read and thought about,” Meitei said.

Congress’ Rajya Sabha member and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh tweeted: “This is Modi’s India where a BJP state govt appointed committee will decide which book can be published and which cannot. This is worse than censorship if such a thing exists! Outrageous !”

Announcing a 15-member committee, headed by Manipur Education Minister, the state’s Higher and Technical Education Department, on September 15, issued an order, stating: “Any person or group desirous of publication of books on the history, culture, tradition, and geography of the state may submit an application to the Director, University and Higher Education, Manipur along with a copy of the manuscript of the book who shall place the matter before the Committee for its approval. The Committee shall convene its meeting as and when required.”

“Any publication of a book in violation shall be liable to be punished under the relevant law,” the order read.

The order said that it has come to the knowledge of the state government that some books published on the history, culture, tradition, and geography of the state contain material that may either distort facts or disturb the peaceful co-existence amongst the various communities in the state or both.

“In order to ensure that books on the history, culture, tradition, and geography of the state are published with accurate information, the Governor of Manipur do hereby constitute the committee … to accord approval for publication of books,” it said.

Various Manipuri civil society organizations, authors, and experts have also criticised the decision.

Union Minister Murugan to meet Puducherry CM to resolve dispute between BJP, AINRC

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries L. Murugan is slated to meet Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday to solve the vexed issue between the saffron party and the All India NR Congress(AINRC).

While BJP is an alliance partner of AINRC in Puducherry, ever since Rangasamy became Chief Minister of the territorial government, there have been differences between the two coalition partners. BJP Puducherry unit president Saminathan told IANS that they are expecting a good meeting between the two leaders.

Sources in the BJP told in an interview that if the meeting fails to give a positive result, then the BJP unit is planning to complain to the national leadership.

The Puducherry Unit of the BJP is sore that Rangasamy has not been considering them for any new postings and that the Chief Minister was deliberately not filling the posts of Chairman in Public Sector Undertakings, including corporations. The BJP is of the opinion that the Chief Minister was deliberately not filling the posts to avoid the claims of the BJP leadership.

It is to be noted that the Puducherry unit president of the BJP, Saminathan, and Home Minister and senior BJP leader A. Namassivayam had recently met the Chief Minister and urged him to fill the vacant posts of Chairmen and other allied posts. However, the Chief Minister did not agree to their demands and said that the corporations and mills were bleeding and that it was not viable to open it for the sake of opening. The Chief Minister, it is learned, has told the leaders that it was not possible to appoint a new chairman in PSUs that were loss-making entities.

Rangasamy, according to BJP sources, has informed the leaders that he won’t have any problem in appointing a new chairman for the PSU given the possibility that the central government is providing extra funds to these corporations.

During the last Assembly session, BJP MLA Kalyanasundaram lashed out at the state government and especially Chief Minister and pointed out that there were irregularities in sanctioning new distilleries. This was seen as a direct fight the BJP had taken to the doorsteps of the Chief Minister.

However, sources in the party told IANS that the ice may break with the arrival of Murugan, who was the state president of the BJP in neighboring Tamil Nadu and has an excellent personal rapport with Chief Minister Rangasamy.

Burden of promise weighing heavily on ruling BJP as leaders who came aboard unhappy

The ruling BJP in Karnataka is a worried lot as those who switched over to its fold from other parties have expressed their unhappiness over the treatment meted out to them in the state party.

BJP leaders had made tall promises to these leaders while they quit their respective Congress and JD (S) parties. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, the promises made have not been fulfilled leading to certain detrimental developments in the party ahead of Assembly elections.

The latest victim is BJP MLC Basavaraja Horatti, say BJP insiders.

According to sources, he was made the offer of continuing in his position as the Chairman of the Legislative Council.

Horatti, former JD (S) leader and close to former PM H.D. Deve Gowda held the position before joining the BJP. However, now, the BJP is having second thoughts about providing him with what was promised.

Sources said that Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai, Union Minister for Mining, Coal and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi wants to anoint him to the position, but the National General Secretary (Organisation)B.L Santhosh is objecting to it. Though a decision was taken in the cabinet to hold the election to the post on Monday, it wasn’t scheduled.

This has made Basavaraj Horatti very sad and the senior leader is miffed with the development, the sources said. Horatti has already met CM Bommai and asked him to speak to the party’s high command.

He has also expressed displeasure that, though he is capable of winning from any political party, he has not been accorded the proper treatment within the BJP.

Meanwhile, former minister Ramesh Jarakiholi is also unhappy that even after cleaning chit in the alleged sex CD scandal, he is being kept at a distance. Jarakiholi played a major role in installing the BJP government in the state by leading the rebellion against Congress-JD (S) coalition.

BJP MLC H Vishwanath, who quit the position of JD (S) president to join the BJP is also yet to be accommodated. BJP MLA Srimanth Patil, who joined with rebels, also lost his ministerial post. Independent MLA R. Shankar has also not been given a minister’s post.

Another rebel who left his cabinet post while joining BJP, Pratap Gouda Patil has not even been given an MLC post after losing the elections.

On the other hand, former minister K.S. Eshwarappa is also keeping away from party affairs as even after a clean chit in the contractor’s suicide case, the party has not accommodated him in the cabinet.

However, the ruling BJP has a tough challenge before Assembly elections in assuaging the feelings of its own partymen. The burden of promises could make things for the party difficult, sources opine.

BJP holds big protest against Gehlot govt in Jaipur

BJP, on the call of its state president Satish Poonia, on Tuesday staged a huge protest against the Congress government in Jaipur alleging that it was turning a blind eye to the 55,000 cattle deaths in the state due to the Lumpy virus.

The protest was also staged to highlight other raging issues like increased electricity rates and power cuts, unemployment, worsening law and order, fake farmer loan waiver promises, etc.

Hundreds of party workers, led by Poonia, marched from the BJP office to the Assembly but were stopped by the police on Sahakar Marg. Here the leaders and workers raised slogans against the government and were detained.

Addressing the gathering at the party office this morning, Satish Poonia said that “Shraddha Paksha was going on right now. In 2023, the Congress party will see its permanent Shraddh rituals. The Congress government will be wiped out from India and Rajasthan,” he said.

The party workers, who were going to besiege the Assembly clashed with the police. The workers also broke the police barricade on the Sahakar Marg in Jaipur. Poonia, who climbed the barricade, was pushed by the policemen. A heavy police force was deployed to stop the activists from moving forward.

Jaipur Police detained the office-bearers, party workers, MPs, and MLAs, including BJP Poonia Ji, and took them to Bani Park police station, confirmed BJP media cell at the time of filing of the report.
