Well-known Tamil actor Vishal’s sister Aishwarya Krishna and her husband Kritish have been blessed with a baby girl on Wednesday.

Needless to say, the news has thrilled actor Vishal who shared his happiness on social media.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Well, what more can I ask? Super happy to become an uncle again. The princess is born today to my princess darling sister Aishu. May God bless the newborn girl and the couple. Inshaallah. God bless. “

Sources close to the actor said that the child was born at 5.25 on Wednesday morning and that both mother and child are fine.

Aishwarya and Kritish got married on August 27 in the year 2019.

K’taka contractor suicide: Cong to meet Guv; BJP seeks report

The Karnataka Congress has decided to intensify agitation against the ruling BJP government in connection with the suicide case of a contractor and BJP worker, Santhosh K. Patil.

The delegation of top Congress leaders, including party General Secretary and state in-charge Randeep Surjewala, is meeting Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Wednesday demanding the termination of Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj K.S. Eshwarappa.

The delegation will also demand to lodge corruption and murder charges against Minister Eshwarappa and further stress his immediate arrest. Along with Surjewala, state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, Opposition leader in Legislative Council B.K. Hariprasad, Campaign Committee Chairman M.B. Patil, and others would meet the Governor and submit a memorandum in this regard.

Santhosh K. Patil, a contractor from Belagavi had stated in his message to the mediapersons that “he was committing suicide as Minister Eshwarappa was not releasing funds for Rs 4 core worth projects that he had executed. He also said that he was being asked to give 40 percent cuts to him.” Patil’s body was recovered from Udupi lodge later on Tuesday.

The Congress since Tuesday launched protests against the government demanding the sacking of Minister Eshwarappa. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had lodged a police complaint against him in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the BJP high command has sought a report from its state unit in connection with the suicide case.

The development has proved to be a setback for the ruling BJP which has been riding high on the Hindutva agenda in the state for quite some time. Congress party, which was neutral on a series of issues of communal polarization and was on a fix, has come out aggressively on the issue. The deceased Santhosh had earlier written letters to the top central BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 40 percent commission demand by Minister Eshwarappa.

Sources in Congress said that the party has decided to raise the issue all across the state and at the national level. They also said the party would question Prime Minister Modi, who charged the erstwhile government of Siddaramaiah as a ’10 percent commission government’.

Telangana farmers dump paddy in front of BJP MP’s house

Some farmers in Telangana’s Nizamabad district on Tuesday dumped paddy in front of BJP MP Dharampuri Arvind’s residence to protest against the Centre’s refusal to procure paddy from Telangana.

A group of farmers dumped a tractor load of paddy in front of Nizamabad MP at Armoor. They were carrying placards and raising slogans against the Central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The farmers, including women, demanded that the Centre should procure entire paddy grown in Telangana during the ongoing Rabi season. One of the farmers alleged that the BJP government at the Centre is discriminating against Telangana.

The farmers demanded that the BJP MP fulfill his assurance given to them that the Centre will procure paddy.

This is the first such protest by farmers in Telangana since ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) launched an agitation over the issue.

This came a day after Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, his entire state Cabinet, TRS MPs, state legislators, and other party leaders staged a protest in Delhi, demanding the Centre procure paddy from Telangana as was done from other states.

The chief minister has set a 24-hour deadline for the Narendra Modi government to take a decision over the state’s demand.

The State Cabinet is scheduled to meet in Hyderabad later in the day. It is likely to chalk out a future course of action.

For the last two weeks, the TRS has been staging protests across Telangana to press its demand.

The BJP also staged a counter-protest in Hyderabad on Monday, blaming the TRS government for the current situation. It demanded that the chief minister either procure paddy from farmers or quit his post.

Punjab Guv, CM review preparedness along Pakistan border

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday held a series of meetings here to take stock of the important issues concerning the border district of Fazilka, which impacts national security.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of Central government agencies posted along with the Pakistan border, including the BSF, the Intelligence Bureau, the Narcotics Control Bureau, the National Investigation Agency, the Military Intelligence of the Indian Army, besides senior officers of the state government.

Major issues of the border district impacting national security were taken up and detailed discussions were held with all the agencies, an official statement said.

Earlier, both the Governor and Chief Minister addressed a meeting with sarpanches and local residents.

The Governor in his address called upon the people to be the eyes and ears of border security forces. He said the past incidents of air-dropping of arms and ammunition into Punjab have necessitated all concerned to be on vigil.

He said the security forces are doing their part but the local input and support could go a long way in checking the influx of contraband weapons and drugs into the state.

He said it has been observed that in many cases the modus operandi for the proliferation of firearms and weapons as well as consignments of drugs has been ‘conceal and clear’ wherein the cross-border smugglers use high-tech technology like drones to drop the consignment into the Indian territory.

So. it is pertinent that the villagers should be careful of the antecedents of all the new entrants into the village and should be on guard against any attempt to misuse their innocence by the anti-national elements.

He said the concept of security over the years has broadened. Along with traditional threats to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state, the security now also envisages the non-traditional threat in the form of organized crime, illegal migration, arms, drug trafficking, etc.

He said that the border districts are vulnerable to this menace of contraband arms smuggling. Therefore, it is the duty of the people to extend support to the Central security forces and the state police.

The thrust of the Governor’s address was also on the fact that all the agencies, central and state, should work together in tandem with a regular exchange of intelligence and inputs.

Congress compromised with interests of Himachal: Nadda

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda on Saturday said the Congress has compromised with the interests of Himachal Pradesh whereas the saffron party has not only safeguarded the interests but also provided developmental projects and incentives to the state.

Speaking at the “Abhinandan Samaroh” here, his first visit after the BJP’s victory in four states in the recently concluded Assembly polls, Nadda said this was not just his honor but the regard of every party worker who worked to strengthen the party’s base in the country.

He said the feat was possible due to the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who ensured that the country regains its lost pride and glory and everyone can live with dignity and pride.

He said it was the Prime Minister who ensured the weaker sections of society and those deprived of welfare benefits get their dues ensuring the BJP’s victory in four states. He said it was after 38 years that any government succeeded in repeating its government in Uttar Pradesh.

Nadda, who belongs to Himachal Pradesh, said the Congress lost its security deposit in a stunning 389 of the 399 seats it contested in the just-concluded Uttar Pradesh. It was for the first time that any government succeeded in repeating its government in Uttarakhand.

Nadda said nine food parks of multinational companies have been established and the state has emerged as a pharmaceutical hub with 12 companies exporting products worldwide.

He said the status of a special category state was also restored by Prime Minister Modi and accepted various demands like restoring financial assistance for development projects in the ratio of 90:10.

The BJP chief said on the completion of the four-year tenure of the state government, Modi laid foundation stones and dedicated projects of Rs 11,500 crore.

He said projects such as IIM and AIIMS were sanctioned to the state during the BJP’s tenure in the Centre.

Appreciating the efforts of the government headed by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Nadda said 9.37 lakh farmers were being provided Rs 6,000 per year under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna.

He said Rs 194 crore was provided by the Union government for the Smart City Project for Shimla, whereas Rs 190 crore was provided by the state.

Chief Minister Thakur said it was only the BJP where a common party worker could rise to the topmost position in the party, whereas all other political parties are headed by families.

Thakur said the Prime Minister also consider Himachal Pradesh his second home and was always considerate towards the developmental demands of the state.

The Chief Minister said the Union government has provided special assistance of Rs 800 crore to the state so that the pace of development goes uninterrupted.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur said by winning all the four states under the able leadership of Nadda would surely win in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh as well.

He appreciated the efforts of the state in pioneering the country in achieving the target of cent vaccination of the population ineligible age groups.

All are equal in Karnataka government’s view, says CM Bommai

Making an oblique referrence to the social unrest situation prevailing in Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that “all are equal in the government’s view and maintaining law and order in the state is our objective.”

The government has nothing to do with the campaign to ban the Wakf Board, he told media persons before heading to participate in a program in Basavakalyan.

Replying to a question on Sri Ram Sena founder Pramod Mutalik’s call for a campaign to ban the Wakf Board, Bommai said: “People do practice their respective traditions. The government is being run in accordance with the laws. The government has nothing to do with these campaigns.”

“I am very happy to be in the land of Basavanna. I have come with hopes of comprehensive development of the region,” he added.

Earlier, CM Bommai announced that an anchor bank would be established within a month to meet the financial needs of the members of women’s self-help groups in the state. It would herald a revolution in employment in the state, he said.

Language chauvinism will boomerang: KTR

Reacting to Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that Hindi should be accepted as an alternative to English, and not local languages, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday warned that language chauvinism and hegemony in the country will boomerang.

Highlighting unity in diversity as India’s strength, KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, tweeted: “India is a union of states and a true ‘Vasudhaika Kutumbam’. Why don’t we let people of our great nation decide what to eat, what to wear, who to pray to, and what language to speak! Language chauvinism/hegemony will boomerang.

“I am an Indian first, a proud Telugu and Telanganaite next. Can speak in my mother tongue Telugu, English, Hindi and a little bit of Urdu too. To impose Hindi and diss English will be a great disservice to the youngsters of this nation who have global aspirations. #stopHindiImposition.”

This is the first reaction by a leader from the two Telugu states to Shah’s statement.

Leaders from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and other non-Hindi-speaking states have already reacted strongly to the Home Minister’s statement saying they will not accept Hindi imposition.

Three more ministers inducted in Pramod Sawant cabinet

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expanded his cabinet on Saturday with the induction of three more ministers who were administered the oath of office by Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai at the Raj Bhavan here.

The new ministers are Sudin Dhavalikar of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Subhash Phaldesai, and Nilkanth Halarnkar both from the BJP.

The fresh induction on Saturday takes the number of ministers in Sawant’s cabinet to 12, including the Chief Minister.

Cabinet approves extension of Atal Innovation Mission till March 2023

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), till March 2023.

The AIM shall work on its intended target of creating an innovation culture and entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country.

This will be done by AIM through its various programs and under intended targets that will be achieved by AIM are: establishing 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs), establishing 101 Atal Incubation Centres, establishing 50 Atal Community Innovation Centres, and supporting 200 start-ups via the Atal New India Challenges.

Briefing the media on Friday, the Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that the total budgeted expenditure of Rs 2,000+ crore shall be incurred in the process of the establishment and supporting the beneficiaries.

The objectives of the AIM are to create and promote an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country via interventions at school, university, research institutions, MSME, and industry levels.

The AIM has focused on both infrastructure creation and institution building and it has created bilateral relations with various international agencies for building synergistic collaboration on innovation and entrepreneurship.
