Prabhas Approves Digital Rights as Compensation for “Salaar”?
Prabhas, the current superstar, is set to acquire the digital rights of his upcoming action movie “Salaar” as part of his compensation package, following an initial payment of around Rs 10 to 15 crore in cash. Given the film’s substantial budget of over Rs 200 crore, Prabhas has opted for digital rights, which could amount to Rs 55 to 60 crore or more, contingent on the film’s commercial success. This decision also eases the financial load on the film’s producer, according to an insider.
Prabhas‘s approach to digital rights has led to suggestions that other leading Telugu actors should consider similar strategies. Producers can recuperate their investments through avenues such as theatrical rights and Hindi dubbing rights, leaving the digital rights in the hands of the star, who can negotiate a substantial deal due to their brand and star power. Major international digital platforms are particularly attracted to star-studded films and are eager to collaborate with prominent actors. This creates an appealing proposition for both the star and the digital platform.
It is now an opportune moment for other prominent Telugu actors like Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan, and Jr NTR to embrace this approach and alleviate the financial pressures on Telugu producers. Given that most Telugu stars possess substantial wealth, exploring digital rights as an alternative payment method can be vital for sustaining the industry, particularly when some star-studded film projects are encountering financial challenges that make it difficult to offer substantial cash remuneration.
