Preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi intensified:
In anticipation of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, neighborhoods throughout the city have begun adorning pandals, which are enclosures that house deity idols. This annual festival is known to reach a feverish fervor in the city, rivaling perhaps only Mumbai in its grandeur. As of Thursday, numerous idols, numbering in the lakhs, have already been installed, and finishing touches are being added to the enclosures.
During the past week, it was a common sight to witness idols being transported across the city, originating from major markets like Dhoolpet, Chandanagar, Choutuppal, Nahold, and Yemjal. Dhoolpet, in particular, has a rich history as a center for artisans renowned for crafting exquisite idols that often incorporate contemporary trends.
Mahesh Singh Kalakar, one of the idol makers, explained, “The price of idols varies based on their size and design. A 10-foot idol can be priced between ₹25,000 and ₹30,000. Nearly 70 percent of the idols have already been delivered, and finishing touches are being applied to the remaining ones. This year, unlike the previous one, there has been no confusion, with coordinated efforts between the authorities and the pollution control board.”
