President Droupadi Murmu Approves Women’s Reservation Bill:
President Droupadi Murmu has approved the women’s reservation bill, which mandates 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The law ministry issued a notification on Friday, stating that the president granted her approval on Thursday.
It will now be officially referred to as the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act. According to its provisions, “It will take effect on a date specified by the central government through an official notification in the Gazette.”
In a special session of Parliament earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the law as the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.”
