Newton’s 3rd Law, a Telugu thriller starring Sumanth, failed to make a strong impact at the box office. However, the film received a better response after its digital premiere on Netflix. Now, its producer Harish Kohikar has opened up about the film’s disappointing theatrical performance.
Harish Kohikar is currently promoting his upcoming web film Balu Geetha. During a promotional interaction, he was asked about the box-office failure of Newton’s 3rd Law and shared his perspective on what went wrong.
The producer said that every film is made with the intention of reaching a wider audience, but Newton’s 3rd Law did not receive the appreciation they had expected in theatres. He pointed out that the film’s release alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day proved to be a major setback, describing the Hollywood film as an urban-centric release.
He further noted that the growing number of theatrical releases every week makes it increasingly difficult for smaller films to secure sufficient attention. This was one of the reasons the team chose the OTT route for Balu Geetha instead of a theatrical release.
Newton’s 3rd Law also features Jagapathi Babu, Srinivas Avasarala, Neha Pathan, Trinadh Varma, Shelly N Kumar and Ravi Varma in important roles. Written and directed by Rajesh Karna, the film was produced by Mark My Words Entertainments, Celestial Art Studio and VFX Shashwat.
