Pujara 11th Indian to score 6K runs in Test cricket

Date:

Middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara on Monday added another feather to his cap as he completed 6,000 runs in Test cricket, thus becoming the 11th Indian batsman to achieve the feat.

The 32-year-old reached the milestone on the final day of the third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). In the 76th over of the fourth innings, the right-handed batsman smashed a boundary against off-spinner Nathan Lyon and completed his 6,000 runs in the longest format of the game.

Having taken 134 innings to score 6,000 Test runs, Pujara — who scored 77 runs in the second innings of the SCG Test — became the sixth-fastest among Indian batsmen after Sunil Gavaskar (117), Virat Kohli (119), Sachin Tendulkar (120), Virender Sehwag (123) and Rahul Dravid (125) to reach the milestone.

VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Gundappa Viswanath are the five other Indian batsmen who have scored 6,000 runs in Test cricket.

Pujara has so far scored 18 hundred and 27 half-centuries in the 80 Test matches he has played so far.
