Rahul Gandhi, a Congress leader and the Member of Parliament for Wayanad, extended his warm wishes to the people of Kerala on the festive occasion of Onam through his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). He shared, “Greetings to everyone on the joyful occasion of Onam! May this wonderful festival reinforce the bonds of togetherness and bring happiness to all.”
Onam is a celebration that falls in the Chingam month, signifying the start of the Malayalam calendar and is primarily a harvest festival. During Onam, individuals typically don kasavu saris and mundu (traditional dhoti). It’s a time when families and friends come together to exchange gifts. The festivities span over a period of ten days, featuring processions, rituals, and performances throughout the state. Onam commemorates the Malayalam New Year and the return of Mahabali, a legendary ruler who once governed Kerala.
