Superstar Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action drama Coolie has grossed close to Rs. 500 crores worldwide. While trade experts initially expected the film to breach the Rs. 1000 crore milestone, mixed reviews slowed its box office momentum.
The film is now set for its digital premiere on Prime Video from September 11, 2025. However, the OTT announcement has sparked debate, as it comes just three weeks after the theatrical release. Many fear this early reveal might discourage audiences from visiting theaters this weekend, further denting collections.
Traditionally, a four-week theatrical window is common for South Indian biggies, but with expensive ticket rates and faster OTT releases, theatrical runs are shrinking drastically. If platforms continue to announce dates this early, movies may soon struggle to sustain even a two-week run in cinemas.
