Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s highly anticipated film Coolie is finally set to hit the screens tomorrow. Starring Superstar Rajinikanth in the titular role, the film also features Nagarjuna Akkineni in a powerful negative role.
Nagarjuna plays Simon, the main antagonist, and he recently revealed that his character is heavily inspired by Heath Ledger’s iconic Joker from The Dark Knight.
During promotions, Shruthi Haasan and Nagarjuna discussed the film and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s admiration for the Joker character. “Lokesh Kanagaraj is a huge fan of Batman. He had Heath Ledger’s Joker in his mind and probably saw that madness in Simon’s role,” said Nagarjuna, adding with a laugh, “I’m glad he didn’t put that smile.”
Simon’s character is said to be a turning point in the script. Even Rajinikanth was surprised when he learned Nagarjuna was cast in the role. At first glance at the trailer, the portrayal of Simon has grabbed attention, raising expectations. Coming right after Kuberaa, Nagarjuna is hopeful this film will mark another major revelation in his career.
Adding to the excitement, Coolie is clashing at the box office tomorrow with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, making it one of the biggest cinematic showdowns of the year.
