Submarine arm of Indian Navy awarded Presidential Colors in Vishakhapatnam

While the Navy is Celebrating 2017 as the ‘Year of the Submarine’, President Ram Nath Kovind, on Friday awarded Presidential Colors, to the submarine arm of the Indian Navy. The Navy is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, at Eastern Naval Command, here in Vishakhapatnam.
As we all understand, the President is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on his first visit to a naval formation was given a 21- gun salute on his arrival at ENC headquarters.
Gracing the occasion, he praised the submarine arm for carrying out their professional responsibility with such great skill and risk and making the nation proud with its contribution to national security. He also addressed the naval officers, and other service personnel, by talking about the submarine arm playing a major role in safeguarding national security but also has a major hand in nation building by guarding trade routes.
He also praised the officers and men of the submarine arm, saying they have grown from a couple of subs in the late 1960’s to as many as 25 submarines. The first submarine, INS Kalvari on December 8, 1967, marked the beginning of the Navy’s Submarine Arm.
Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba, and Vice- Admiral Karambir Singh, among other senior officers, present on the occasion.
