Ramayana – A Global Dream Project of Indian Cinema
Ramayana is currently one of the most ambitious projects in Hindi cinema. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is being produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios with a staggering budget of ₹4,000 crore for two parts.
Interestingly, producer Namit Malhotra emphasized that Ramayana is not just being made for Indian audiences but also for the global stage. “It should speak to you like any other film,” he said, stressing that the story must connect with viewers in the West as well.
Malhotra described Ramayana as a film that will resonate beyond cultural and religious boundaries, appealing equally to believers and non-believers. He even drew bold comparisons with Hollywood epics such as Avatar, Gladiator, and the works of Christopher Nolan, setting expectations sky-high.
Making a powerful statement, the producer added, “If people in the West don’t like it, I consider that a failure. It is meant for the world. If you don’t like it, shame on me; we should have done a better job.”
With such ambition and vision, Ramayana is shaping up to be not just a film, but a global cinematic event.
