Ransomware and Malware: Top Cyber Threats in India for 2024

Date:

A recent report by IT company Thales highlights ransomware and malware as the top cyber threats in India for 2024, with 42% of IT professionals recognizing them as the fastest-growing threats. Cloud assets, such as SaaS applications and cloud storage, are primary targets for these attacks.

Ashish Saraf, Thales India’s Vice President, emphasizes the importance of enterprises maintaining visibility across their organizations to ensure compliance with evolving data privacy regulations. Despite ransomware being the top threat, only 20% of respondents have a formal plan to address it.

The survey, conducted across 18 countries and 37 industries, revealed that 11% of Indian respondents experienced ransomware attacks in the past year, with 10% paying the ransom. Human error remains a significant cause of data breaches, cited by 34% of enterprises.

Compliance emerges as a crucial factor, with organizations proficient in compliance processes less likely to experience breaches. Additionally, 93% of global IT professionals perceive an increase in security threats’ volume or severity, signaling a growing concern compared to previous years.
