FIR on Rhea’s plaint in violation of SC order, Bandra PS her 2nd home: Vikas Singh

Hours after the Mumbai Police registered an FIR on the complaint filed by Rhea Chakraborty against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters and others, senior advocate Vikas Singh representing the late actor’s family launched a scathing attack on the city police force.

Speaking to media here, Singh said, “Today an FIR has been registered by the Mumbai Police. The Bandra Police station is like her second home. The FIR registered by the Bandra Police is a clear violation of the Supreme Court order.” The Supreme Court last month closed all options for the Mumbai Police to continue the probe or register a criminal case in the future in connection with the unnatural death of SSR.

“The right of registering the FIR with the Mumbai Police, in this case, was only for the 147 proceedings of the Mumbai Police which were already on. What Rhea is trying to say through this FIR should have been given by her to the CBI as a statement,” he added.

The Mumbai police on Tuesday registered the FIR against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters Priyanka Singh and Neetu Singh, and a doctor from Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi based on a complaint filed by actor Rhea Chakraborty.

A case has been filed at Bandra police station under sections pertaining to cheating, forgery, abetment to suicide, criminal conspiracy, and other sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The senior advocate said that the Mumbai Police has filled up the NDPS section as if they wanted to make her happy. “This FIR is a clear violation of the Supreme Court proceedings. Moreover, there is another judgment which says that whenever an FIR is being registered against a Doctor, a medical team shall be constituted and only after that such a step can be taken,” Singh said.

He added that if the complaint was bonafide and genuine, their statement to CBI would have been a big enough blow to the family of the late actor.

Earlier on Monday night, Singh had intimidated that if the Mumbai Police takes this complaint forward, he would “initiate a request for Contempt of court proceedings”.

“Mumbai Police shall not accept any such complaint as it would be a clear violation of the Supreme Court’s order. The order clearly prohibits any other agency apart from CBI from registering any new complaint in this case,” said Singh while holding a press conference here.

“This is a clear attempt to deflect the mind of the people and derail the probe. If the Bandra Police will take this complaint forward, we will initiate contempt proceedings,” he added.

Ordering a CBI probe into the matter, Justice Hrishikesh Roy in the apex court had said, “While according to approval for the ongoing CBI investigation, if any other case is registered on the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the surrounding circumstances of his unnatural death, the CBI is directed to investigate the new case as well.”

The top court had also noted that in the present case, the Mumbai Police has attempted to stretch the purview of Section 174 without drawing up an FIR, and therefore, as it appears, no investigation pursuant to the commission of a cognizable offense is being carried out by the Mumbai Police.

Senior Telugu actor Jaya Prakash Reddy passes away

Popular villain-turned-comedian Jaya Prakash Reddy passed away on Tuesday at his home in Guntur. He was 74 and a diabetic.

Tributes poured in from Tollywood personalities, politicians, and others for the late actor.

“Telugu cinema and theatre have lost a gem today with the demise of Jaya Prakash Reddy Garu. His versatile performances over several decades have given us many memorable cinematic moments,” said former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Naidu expressed solidarity with Reddy’s family and friends.

Leading Telugu actor Venkatesh Daggubati reminisced the time when both the actors worked together. “I am extremely sad to hear about the sudden demise of my dear friend Jaya Prakash Reddy garu. We were such a great combination on the screen. Will definitely miss him,” Daggubati added.

Reddy died at his home, where he was living with his wife for the past three years. The actor visited Hyderabad only when there was some film shooting.

According to Reddy’s wife Rajyalakshmi, the veteran actor did not suffer a heart attack but had a diabetes problem. “My husband used to encourage new talent,” she said about the teacher-turned-actor.

Industrial projects back on track in UP

0

With constant intervention by the Yogi Adityanath government, the various industrial projects which were earlier believed to have been dropped by the investors in Uttar Pradesh, are now back on track.

According to Alok Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Industrial Development Department, investors are gaining much-needed confidence by interacting directly with the senior officers from the government.

“More than 12 percent MoUs have initiated commercial operations in addition to over 20 percent of investment intents which are in various phases of active implementation,” he said.

Kumar said that the mechanism of appointing dedicated nodal officers for each MoU as the contact point for the investor had boosted investor confidence and resulted in positive feedback, which has been instrumental for the state in achieving the second rank in the Business Reform Action Plan ranking.

It may be recalled that the state government, in June this year, had introduced the concept of appointing nodal officers for handholding investors.

An MoU Tracking Portal has been developed and regular updates on MoUs are provided by nodal officers and issues that investors are facing are also getting resolved.

The Industrial Development Department has appointed 23 nodal officers for 150 investment proposals.

Kumar said that out of 150 MoUs mapped to the Industrial Development department, 18 MoUs worth Rs 4,095.96 crore have commenced commercial operations, and another 31 MoUs worth Rs 12,858.34 crore have initiated project implementation.

Four new units have started commercial operations and 19 new units, in which investment of around Rs 4,500 crore is intended, have initiated their project on the ground from these MoUs.

Health benefits of red rice noodles

0

We have all grown up eating noodles either as a Sunday brunch, in birthday parties, or an occasional surprise treat. It could be the much loved instant 2 minutes noodles or the Indo-Chinese version of Hakka noodles. It still is comfort food for many of us since it brings about some very happy childhood memories.

Although kids absolutely love it as a meal but as adults, we feel guilty since we know what goes into making noodles. Both instant as well as Hakka noodles, available in the market, are made with maida/refined flour whose nutritional value is literally zero. It causes digestive issues as well as wreaks havoc to the blood sugar and cholesterol levels in the body.

Most noodles also contain MSG and other artificial flavor enhancers which have been time and again proven to be very harmful to our health. Does it mean that we should keep our kids away from noodles? Not necessarily, says Priya Prakash, Co-Founder, Naturally Yours.

Red rice noodles is an ideal healthy alternative to regular noodles. It is completely devoid of maida and is made using only red rice and whole-wheat flour. This makes it a very good source of dietary fibers and antioxidants. It is easy to make and takes barely 10 minutes to cook, thus making it a great choice for individuals who want to eat healthily but are hard-pressed for time. It is also ideal for moms, who can get their kids to consume whole grains without a fuss since it is in the form of their favorite meal, she suggests.

Prakash shares the top 10 health benefits of red rice noodles.

No maida/refined flour: Thus makes this a delicious guilt-free meal.
Easy to digest: Red rice noodles have high fiber content due to the presence of whole grains. This helps to support healthy digestion.
Provides all the benefits of nutritious red rice in a kid-friendly format: It provides you with the goodness of red rice, which has 10 times more antioxidants than brown rice and is also very rich in essential nutrients, iron, vitamin, phosphorus, and fiber.
Tastemaker is MSG-free: The tastemaker is free of MSG, artificial additives, taste enhancers, color, preservatives, etc. It is made using natural spices like turmeric, ginger, and pepper which also support healthy digestion. Thus making it ideal for kids.
Time Saver: The most important benefit is that these noodles are easy to make in under 10 minutes.
The noodles taste very similar to regular noodles and can be used in different recipes like Ramen, schezwan, chopseuy, etc.
Kid-friendly meal: Super easy way to introduce whole grains in children’s diets since they absolutely love noodles.
Rich in antioxidants: Red rice has 10 times more antioxidants than brown rice. The antioxidant called Anthocyanin is the pigment that gives red rice its reddish-purple color. These are powerful anti-inflammatory agents and also help to promote skin and eye health.
Only Natural spices: The tastemaker is made using only natural spices like turmeric, ginger, pepper, etc which help to support healthy digestion. There are no artificial sweeteners or unfamiliar ingredients.
Ideal for individuals following weight management diets: Since it is made using whole grains, the fiber content in these noodles helps to slow down digestion and makes you feel fuller for a longer period of time. This in turn prevents you from overeating or reaching out for unhealthy junk food in between your meals, thus supporting healthy weight management.

Here’s a simple recipe for you to try at home.

Take about 2L of water in a large pan and boil on high heat. Add a tsp of salt in it.
Once the water has come to a rolling boil, add Red Rice Noodles.
Stir once to make sure that the noodles are not sticking together or to the bottom of the pan.
Continue to boil on high heat, stirring occasionally, until the water returns to a rolling boil (about 2 minutes)
Once the water begins to bubble and foam, you may wish to turn down the temperature a bit to keep it from boiling over
Boil for another 5 to 7 minutes.
Test a piece of noodles to see whether it is the texture you’re looking for (cooked but still a bit firm)
Drain the water and keep the noodles aside. Rinse it and then toss it with a bit of oil to make sure that the noodles don’t stick to itself.
Saute the vegetables of your choice (like onion, carrot, capsicum, cabbage, beans, etc) in 1 tsp of oil.
Add the seasonings from the seasonings pack and mix well. In case it becomes too dry, add a tsp of oil to it.
Toss it with the cooked Red Rice noodles and serve hot.

Samsung forecast to top $8.4 billion in operating profit in Q3

0

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics is expected to see its third-quarter operating profit cross 10 trillion-won ($8.42 billion) on a recovery in sales of smartphones, TVs, and other home appliances, analysts said on Tuesday.

If the market forecast becomes a reality, it would mark the first time in two years for Samsung Electronics’ operating profit to surpass the 10 trillion-won mark.

Samsung Electronics, the world’s top smartphone, and memory chip manufacturer are slated to announce its results for the July-September quarter about a month later.

In a research note, Kim Kyung-min, an analyst at Hana Financial Investment, said there is a growing possibility of Samsung’s third-quarter operating profit surpassing 10 trillion won, estimating the figure at 10.15 trillion won, reports Yonhap news agency.

Last week, DB Financial Investment Co. forecast Samsung’s operating profit to be far above market estimates, floating a possibility of passing 10 trillion won.

In a report published late last month, KB Securities analyst Kim Dong-won predicted Samsung’s earnings surprise and estimated its third-quarter operating profit at around 10 trillion won.

Buoyed by a super boom of semiconductors, Samsung’s operating profit hovered above the 10 trillion-won mark for seven straight quarters between the second quarter of 2017 and the fourth quarter of 2018.

Analysts’ optimistic outlooks come amid Samsung’s strong sales of smartphones, TVs, and other electronics products in spite of the coronavirus pandemic.

Third-quarter sales of Samsung’s smartphone segment are expected to soar up to 49 percent from three months earlier.

The company’s QLED TV shipments are also projected to jump in the 40 percent range, and Samsung also posted strong sales of other home appliances in July.

In the second quarter, Samsung’s operating profit jumped 23.5 percent on-year to 8.15 trillion won, but sales fell 5.6 percent on-year to 52.97 trillion won. Its net profit reached 5.55 trillion won, up 7.23 percent from a year earlier.

Man warned for seeking SC direction to reduce fuel prices

0

The Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up a petitioner who filed a PIL challenging the almost daily increase in petrol prices.

The top court warned the petitioner that if he presses to argue on the prayers in the PIL, then he could end up paying a heavy fine for filing the plea.

A bench comprising Justices R.F. Nariman, Navin Sinha, and Indira Banerjee said: “Do you want to argue this case because if you do, we will impose heavy costs.”

Counsel appearing for the petitioner Shaji J. Kodankandath submitted before the bench that if that was the view of the court then he would withdraw the plea filed by his client.

The petition filed by a Kerala-based advocate contended that the price of petrol and diesel were unreasonable in the backdrop of low crude oil prices. The petitioner moved the apex court seeking directions to the Centre to reduce the price of petrol and diesel.

After a brief hearing on the matter, the apex court dismissed this PIL as withdrawn. As per precedents, the courts usually refrain from conducting a judicial review of economic policy decisions, which is under the domain of the executive.

New Zealand reports six new Covid-19 cases

0

New Zealand reported six new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the overall caseload in the country to 1,431, according to the Health Ministry.

The new cases comprised two imported ones in managed isolation facilities and four community infections, reports Xinhua news agency.

The two cases in managed isolation were a man and a woman who arrived on the same flight from the Philippines on September 3.

There are four new cases in the community that was all linked to the Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship Church group within the Auckland August cluster.

Auckland Regional Public Health is actively tracing and testing their contacts, the Ministry said.

Meanwhile, border and managed isolation and quarantine facility workers will be required to undergo regular Covid-19 tests, the government announced on Monday.

From August 31, adults on all public transport in New Zealand were required to wear face coverings to prevent virus transmission, with fines for non-compliance.

PUBG breaks ties with China-based Tencent for India operations

0

PUBG Corporation on Tuesday said it has made the decision to no longer authorize the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile franchise to China-based Tencent Games in India, opening the possibility of the ban being lifted.

The popular game is distributed in India by Tencent Holdings.

“In light of recent developments, PUBG Corporation has made the decision to no longer authorize the PUBG Mobile franchise to Tencent Games in India,” the company said in a statement.

Moving forward, PUBG Corporation will take on all publishing responsibilities within India.

“As the company explores ways to provide its own PUBG experience for India in the near future, it is committed to doing so by sustaining a localized and healthy gameplay environment for its fans,” it said.

PUBG Mobile is the mobile version PUBG, an intellectual property owned and developed by PUBG Corporation, a South Korean gaming company.

The company said it is actively engaged in developing and publishing PUBG on multiple platforms, including PUBG Mobile in select territories, to provide the best player experiences possible.

After PUBG became popular, Tencent — a Chinese conglomerate — joined hands with the company to market the product in China and started handling a large portion of its distribution in other countries, including in India.

“PUBG Corporation fully understands and respects the measures taken by the government as the privacy and security of player data is a top priority for the company,” the company said.

The company hopes to work hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution that “will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations”.

In addition to regular content updates, the company is exploring different ways to engage its community in India through various region-based activities, including esports and community events.

The popular mobile game has been pulled out from both Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India following the directive from the government.

Earlier this month, the government banned 118 apps over national security concerns, including PUBG Mobile, Baidu, and a couple of virtual private networks (VPNs) that allowed access to TikTok that was earlier banned.

The action came after the fresh Chinese incursion attempts in Indian territory at Pangong Tso in eastern Ladakh.

The PUBG game, which has more than 600 million downloads and 50 million active players globally, has nearly 33 million users in India.

Indian media also needs to go global: PM Modi

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that at a time when India’s voice and local products are going global, the country’s media industry also needs to go global.

Inaugurating the Patrika Gate in Jaipur via video conferencing, the Prime Minister said, “India’s local products are going global. India’s voice is also becoming more global. The world listens to India more intently. India has a strong presence on every international platform. In such a situation, the Indian media also needs to go global.”

Narendra Modi described the Patrika Gate as a reflection of the culture of Rajasthan. The iconic gate has been built by the Patrika Group of Newspapers on the Jawaharlal Nehru Marg in Jaipur.

He also released two books written by Gulab Kothari, Chairman of Patrika Group of Newspapers, via video conference. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Governor Kalraj Mishra were present at the event.

Alluding to the literary work, Prime Minister Modi said, “Almost every big name during the freedom struggle was associated with writing. Our great saints and great scientists were also writers.”

He added, “In any society, the enlightened section of the society, the writers, are like a pioneer. They are the teachers of society. Schooling gets over, but the learning process lasts the entire life, it goes on every day. Books and authors also play a major role in it.”

IPL: Indian players might take time getting used to empty stands, says Styris

0

India pacer Ajit Agarkar believes cricketers will be ‘grateful’ to play in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to begin from September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Speaking on Star Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Agarkar said Indian players will be excited to play the IPL considering there has been a long gap because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It might be a bit odd for the first couple of games, but at the end of the day, you are grateful enough that the tournament is taking place. You are getting to play some cricket.

“A lot of these guys are at the peak of their careers, not having cricket for six months, that’s a huge loss when you are doing so well in your career. So, they will be very excited to actually play the tournament,” he added.

Meanwhile, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris feels Indian players might take time getting used to playing in an empty stadium in the upcoming tournament.

“I don’t think there will be too much of an adjustment for the overseas players. A lot of the overseas players play in front of small crowds or even empty grounds on a regular basis, so they will be used to that,” said Styris.

“But you are right, Indian players, I can’t remember. I mean (Virat) Kohli, 10 years ago, most of those players have been around long enough now. They won’t struggle, but they will just wonder where they are and look for that energy in other ways,” he added.

Agreeing with Styris, Agarkar said: “It might be little odd at the start, but like Scotty (Scot Styris) said, that energy sometimes you get from crowds, particularly in India, the IPL has moved to the UAE, but in India, it can sometimes act like a 12th man for the home team.”

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

I have not cheated anyone, the business failed: Kamaruddin

0

Even as the Kerala Crime Branch police has initiated a probe against Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) opposition legislator, M.C.Kamaruddin after investors complained of being cheated, he said he has not cheated anyone.

“Our business did not do well and hence I will return all the amount to those who have invested with us in a matter of four months. There is no cheating involved at all. A few investors have approached the court, while many have not. Those who have gone legal, will be dealt in the same manner,” said the opposition legislator.

Kamaruddin and his business partners had allegedly flouted a jewelry firm and had collected money from several investors.

When the business failed, anxious investors went into panic and complaints also surfaced and the Crime Branch is now probing it.

“I am the UDF Kasargode district chairman and to date, neither my party nor the UDF has asked me to step down from my post,” added Kamaruddin.

Incidentally, Kamaruddin won the Manjeswaram Assembly by-election held last year, after the sitting legislator passed away.

UP village was all set to handpump thousand litres of spurious liquor

0

The Uttar Pradesh police, along with excise officials, have recovered huge quantities of spurious liquor and raw material in raids conducted on the outskirts of the Jhansi district.

The police took the help of drone cameras and JCB machines in the raids that took place on Monday.

In Padri village, the police found a tube well hand pump fitted to the barrels filled with liquor underground. The police found 10,000 liters of raw material stored in 50 barrels here.

District magistrate Jhansi Andra Vamsi said that the administration has recovered 1,245 liters of illegal country-made liquor and 14,000 kg of raw material in the past two days.

“We will not allow manufacturing or sale of illegal and spurious liquor under any circumstances. It poses grave danger to the health of those consuming it as well as loss to the government exchequer. We will be continuously raiding such hideouts from time to time,” said Vamsi.

District excise officer, Pramod Kumar Goyal has issued phone numbers, asking people to inform them about the manufacture and sale of illicit liquor.

Vitamin D levels in blood can predict future health risks: Study

0

Researchers have found that free and circulating vitamin D levels in the blood may be a better predictor of future health risks in aging men.

Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a higher risk for developing many aging-related diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis, according to the study, presented at the e-ECE 2020 online conference on Tuesday.

There are several forms, or metabolites, of vitamin D in the body but it is the total amount of these metabolites that are most often used to assess the vitamin D status of people, the researchers said.

The prohormone, 25-dihydroxy vitamin D is converted to 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D, which is considered the active form of vitamin D in our body. More than 99 percent of all vitamin D metabolites in our blood is bound to proteins, so only a very small fraction is free to be biologically active. Therefore the free, active forms may be a better predictor of current and future health.

For the findings, the research team from University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium investigated whether the free metabolites of vitamin D were better health predictors, using data from the European Male Ageing Study, which was collected from 1,970 men, aged 40-79.

The levels of total and free metabolites of vitamin D were compared with their current health status, adjusting for potentially confounding factors, including age, body mass index, smoking, and self-reported health. The total levels of both free and bound vitamin D metabolites were associated with a higher risk of death. However, only free 25-hydroxyvitamin D was predictive of future health problems and not free 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D.

“These data further confirm that vitamin D deficiency is associated with a negative impact on general health and can be predictive of a higher risk of death,” said study author Leen Antonio from University Hospitals Leuven.”Most studies focus on the association between total 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and age-related disease and mortality,” Antonio added.

According to the team, as 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D is the active form of vitamin D in our body, it was possible it could have been a stronger predictor for disease and mortality. It has also been debated if the total or free vitamin D levels should be measured.”Our data now suggest that both total and free 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels are the better measures of future health risk in men,” said Antonio.

1st batch of Russian vaccine produced for civilian circulation

0

In some good news for millions living in hope for a Covid-19 vaccine shot, the Russian Health Ministry said on Tuesday that the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine has been produced for civilian circulation.

The supplies of the medication to the Russian regions are expected soon, the Health Ministry told reporters, reports Tass news agency.

“The first batch of the vaccine for preventing the novel coronavirus infection, Gam-COVID-Vac (Sputnik V) developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Health Ministry passed the required quality tests and was produced for civilian circulation.

“In the near future, the supplies of the first batches of the vaccine to the regions are expected,” the ministry said.

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko earlier explained that civilian production at this stage meant vaccination of citizens from the risk groups, mainly teachers and doctors.

Earlier this month, a study published in the peer-reviewed journal The Lancet said a Russian Covid-19 vaccine has shown no serious side effects and elicited an immune response in early human trials.

Russia last month registered the “Sputnik V”, becoming the first country to approve a Covid-19 vaccine.

On August 15, the Russian Health Ministry announced the launch of the vaccine production.

The Lancet study’s authors also held that large, long-term trials, including a placebo comparison, and further monitoring are needed to establish the long-term safety and effectiveness of the vaccine for preventing Covid-19 infection.

The Indian government said late last month that New Delhi and Moscow are in communication regarding the Sputnik V vaccine.

Addressing a press conference, Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said: “As far as Sputnik V vaccine is concerned, India and Russia are in communication, some initial information has been shared and some detailed information is awaited”.

Earlier, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, had said that Russia was looking for a partnership with India to produce the Covid-19 vaccine.

Sputnik V, an adenovirus vector-based vaccine, was developed by the Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology along with the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

143mn Windows malware hit consumer smart devices in Q2: Report

0

More than 143 million malware targeted consumer smart-devices in the second quarter of 2020, mainly in the form of coronavirus-themed attacks, a new report said on Tuesday.

Among the top scams that were reported during the April-June period were free Netflix subscriptions and fraud PM CARE Fund apps.

The month of June clocked the highest detections of Windows malware with 1.5 million daily detections due to the opening up of businesses under the unlock phase.

According to researchers at cybersecurity firm Quick Heal, attackers are still using COVID-19 as bait to drop malicious payloads to consumer devices, usually in the form of phishing emails that contain infected attachments.

“In the same category, ‘Trickbot’ proved to be an active distributor for multiple malware through phishing emails,” Quick Heal’s ‘Quarterly Threat Report’ revealed.

The report also indicated the emergence of new SMB exploits that allow attackers to take charge of the victim’s machine or crash any system in the network.

Malware clocked 38 percent of the total Android detections in Q2.

“Android.Bruad.A” topped the list of top 10 Android malware with 32 percent detections.

The researchers found various malicious applications that looked 100 percent authentic and infected consumer mobile phones by injecting malicious information.

Among these apps, the fake ‘Aarogya Setu’ app took the lead with more and more people downloading it to gain awareness around Covid-19 cases and info.

In the banking domain, “Eventbot” appeared to be a dangerous mobile Trojan that hacks into phones’ in-built accessibility and steals data by reading into SMSs, banking PINs, etc.

“Interestingly, this trojan bypasses even the two-factor authentication process that most banking apps offer to ensure security,” said the report.

Maximum malware detection was done using Network Security Scan, an in-house feature of Quick Heal that identifies cyberattacks and stops the malicious payloads from entering consumer devices.

B’wood outsider Aditya Seal on nepotism: Some brainless person glamourised the word

Bollywood outsider Aditya Seal does not agree with the allegation that nepotism reigns in the film industry and, without taking names, says some brainless person has glamourized the word.

The word nepotism caught momentum after actress Kangana Ranaut used it for the first time on “Koffee With Karan”, accusing show host and filmmaker Karan Johar of being the flag-bearer of nepotism in Bollywood. The debate over the subject was revived by Kangana recently after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, an outsider who had gone on to become a star in Bollywood.

Aditya was recently seen in the 2019 teenybopper flick, Student Of The Year 2, produced by Johar.

“I did ‘Ek Chotisi Love Story’ and ‘Purani Jeans’, where I was launched. There was another film, ‘Tum Bin II’ where I was re-launched and then I did ‘Student Of The Year 2’. So, for me I don’t understand the theory of insider-outsider at all because me being an outsider and getting launched and re-launched — why would anyone do that?” Aditya told IANS.

“If they see something in me, if they see I have the skill set which they feel is right for their film, they have taken me. Nepotism word does not resonate with me,” he avered.

Aditya looks at the situation from the point of view of a producer: “I would want to have somebody ‘jiske Naam pe main picture bech sukun (someone on whose name I can sell the film)’, and someone for whom the audience come and watch the film,” he said.

He says the audience makes stars. “Why have you made Alia Bhatt who she is? Why have you made Varun Dhawan who he is?” said Aditya, adding: “They have come in and proved themselves time and again. After eight to 10 years of being your favorite actor, today you are abusing her (Alia) I don’t understand this,” he said.

Without taking names, he said the word “nepotism” has been unduly spotlighted and is just stupidity.

“This word has been glamourized. Kisi be-Akal insaan ne is word ko glamourize Kiya hai (some brainless person has glamourized the word). Usko sochke karna chahiye tha (they should have thought about it). It is just stupidity,” Aditya said.

He will next be seen in “Anamika”, a story that is a part of four films about forbidden love. It is directed by Priyadarshan.

The four-story project is titled “Forbidden Love”. It comprises four films — “Diagnosis Of Love”, “Rules Of The Game”, “Anamika” and “Arranged Marriage”.

Ali Fazal, Aahana Kumra, Patralekhaa, Omkar Kapoor, Anindita Bose, Pooja Kumar, Harsh Chhaya, Raima Sen, Mahesh Manjrekar, Rannvijaya Singh, and Vaibhav Tatwawadi, also feature in the cast, across the four films.
