Andhra Pradesh Election Buzz: 6 Ex-CM Sons to Contest Elections

In the upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh, the political arena is poised for a significant showdown, with daughters and six Ex-CM Sons vying for key positions. Leading the charge is Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, a scion of the influential YSR family, seeking re-election from the Pulivendula constituency in Kadapa district, which has been a stronghold of the family for decades.

Accompanying Jagan in the electoral fray is his sister, Y. S. Sharmila, who is likely to contest from the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, challenging the incumbent MP and cousin, Y. S. Avinash Reddy. This move sets the stage for an interesting family feud within the YSRCP bastion.

Meanwhile, descendants of N. T. Rama Rao, the iconic Telugu film actor and founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), are also making their mark in the electoral landscape. Notably, NTR’s son and popular actor, N. Balakrishna, is seeking re-election from the Hindupur Assembly constituency, aiming for a third consecutive term. This constituency holds historical significance as it was represented by NTR himself in the past.

Adding to the electoral drama, NTR’s daughter, D. Purandeswari, currently serving as the president of the state BJP, is expected to contest for a parliamentary seat. Purandeswari’s entry into the electoral arena underscores the enduring legacy of the NTR family in Andhra Pradesh politics, despite being associated with different political parties.

In another political dynasty, Nara Lokesh, the son of former Chief Minister and TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu, is once again testing his political fortunes from the Mangalagiri Assembly constituency. Lokesh’s bid for re-election comes after an unsuccessful attempt in the previous polls, indicating the high stakes involved for the Naidu family.

Similarly, Nadendla Manohar, son of former Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, is contesting from Tenali on a Jana Sena Party ticket. With a rich political legacy behind him, Manohar aims to carry forward his family’s political legacy in the region.

Additionally, contenders like Kotla Jayasurya Prakash Reddy, son of former Chief Minister Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy, and N. Ramkumar Reddy, son of N. Janardhan Reddy, are also throwing their hats into the political ring, representing various constituencies across the state.

Overall, the upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh promise to be a fascinating display of political dynasties and their legacies, as the sons and daughters of former Chief Ministers seek to carve their paths in the state’s political landscape.

BRS Accuses BJP of Misusing Agencies for Political Gain Before Elections

0

The BRS alleges that the BJP government is misusing central agencies to weaken or silence political opponents. They argue that arrests of leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and K Kavitha are politically motivated maneuvers aimed at gaining electoral advantage.

Speaking to reporters, BRS leader Nama Nageswara Rao emphasized the diverse nature of India’s democracy and criticized BJP’s attempts to dominate opposition parties. He pointed out that BJP has even targeted its former allies, like Shiv Sena and Akali Dal, when they posed threats to its power.

Responding to queries, Nageswara Rao defended the right of governments to change policies and laws according to their priorities. He argued that bringing new policies does not necessarily imply wrongdoing and criticized the selective prosecution of opposition leaders.

Rajya Sabha member KR Suresh Reddy accused the BJP government of targeting opponents who refuse to align with them. He defended Kavitha, stating there is no evidence implicating her in the Delhi excise policy case and expressed confidence in her acquittal.

MPs Vaddiraju Ravichandra and Manne Srinivas Reddy criticized the BJP’s timing of arrests just before elections, alleging it as a tactic to manipulate public opinion. They condemned the prolonged investigation into the case, likening it to a soap opera aimed at political gain.

The State Bank of India informed the Supreme Court that it has furnished all electoral bond details to the Election Commission, ensuring compliance with directives. While complete account numbers and KYC details remain undisclosed for cyber security reasons, information revealing bond purchasers, denominations, and encashment specifics has been provided. The affidavit confirms SBI’s adherence to court orders, emphasizing that no relevant details have been withheld, following the apex court’s insistence for full disclosure by March 21.

With SBI’s submission of bond purchase records and associated data to the EC by March 6, the apex court continues its vigilance over transparency in political funding.
