Day 3 box office collection for Animal: On Sunday, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film starring Ranbir Kapoor beat Siddharth Anand’s Shah Rukh Khan film Pathaan in three days, but it wasn’t able to tie the record set by Atlee Kumar’s SRK movie Jawan.

Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, achieved unprecedented success on Sunday at the box office even though it was met with mixed to negative reviews from all sources. While it didn’t quite beat Atlee Kumar’s SRK movie Jawan, the action movie did surpass the three-day total of Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, during the day. In addition, within three days, Animal became the second movie of the year to break into the Rs 350 cr club globally and the Rs 200 crore club in India, following Jawan.

According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Animal made Rs 72.50 crore on its third day of release in the domestic market. This represents an 8.5 percent increase in daily box office earnings over the day before. Consequently, Animal’s three-day domestic net collection of Rs 202.57 crore was well above Pathan’s Rs 166.75 crore and slightly less than Jawan’s Rs 206.06 crore. Animal’s global gross collection is estimated by trade analyst Ramesh Bala to be Rs 360 crore. He tweeted, “#Animal grosses a whopping ₹ 360 Crs at the WW Box office for the 3-day opening weekend.” In the first three days, Jawan, the highest earner of the year, brought in Rs 384.6 crore, while Pathaan brought in Rs 313 crore.

Even though Pathan’s first Sunday domestic net collection of Rs 60.75 crore was surpassed by the film’s, Jawan’s Rs 80.1 crore was not easily broken. On the first Sunday of its release in theaters, Anil Sharma’s highly anticipated film Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, brought in a mere Rs 51.7 crore. Whether Animal can outperform Jawan (Rs 32.92 crore), Pathan (Rs 26.5 crore), and Gadar 2 (Rs 38.7 crore) in the test on Monday is still to be seen.

Overall occupancy in the Hindi market for Animal on Sunday was 79.05 percent. The movie had a 65.53% occupancy rate in the Hindi market during its initial morning shows. That being said, the percentages did rise throughout the day, peaking at 86.42 in the evening shows and 84.58 in the afternoon shows. By the time of the night screenings, the percentage had somewhat decreased to 79.66.
