Murder Case, accused sentenced to 10 years in prison

Siriella Doraiswamy, 33, was given a 10-year prison sentence by the Proddatur Second Additional District Judge Court on Friday for hacking his paternal uncle to death on June 23, 2017, while under the influence of alcohol.

In Proddatur town, Kadapa district, Doraiswamy was fighting with his wife while intoxicated. Attempting to calm him down was G. Sudhakar, his paternal uncle. But Sudhakar was attacked by Doraiswamy, who stabbed him with a sharp knife. In the hospital, Sudhakar passed away two days later.

Following the registration of a case by the Proddatur police, Doraiswamy was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000 by the Second ADJ Court of Proddatur. Kadapa SP Siddarth Kausal expressed gratitude to the police team for successfully establishing the accused’s guilt and obtaining a conviction.

Late on Thursday, Hyderabad police apprehended more than Rs 1.78 crore in unaccounted cash from two NRIs residing in Dubai at Asif Nagar. The two admitted to the police that they were carrying the cash in order to buy a piece of city real estate.

At Mangalhat, South West Zone police conducted a search on Thursday and found two kilograms of ganja.

According to DCP South West B Bala Swamy, their teams stopped two cars during vehicle checks and discovered Rs 1,78,30,000 in cash inside.

The two individuals, identified as Mohammed Shahnawazuddin and Mohammed Shabuddin, who are siblings from Hyderabad who have relocated to Dubai, informed the police that they were carrying money to purchase a home. However, police confiscated the cash and gave it to the Income Tax department for additional investigation because they were not carrying any pertinent documents.

Although the seized money did not appear to have any connection to the elections, police discovered that the individuals had visited the city two weeks prior.

Benchmark equity indices saw a significant downturn recently amid the recovery in Asian markets, but they recovered in early trade on Friday.

In early trading, the 30-share BSE Sensex increased 411.17 points to 63,559.32.At 18,973.15, the Nifty increased by 115.9 points.

The top gainers among the Sensex companies were Infosys, Maruti, NTPC, Mahindra & Mahindra, State Bank of India, and Infosys.

Out of the group, Asian Paints was the only one to lag behind.

Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong were trading in positive territory in the Asian markets.

On Thursday, the US markets finished lower.

For the first time in more than a year, the European Central Bank kept interest rates unchanged on Thursday.

“The market looks to be oversold after six straight days of losses caused by the elevated bond yields in the US and tensions in West Asia,” V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, stated.

The US economy’s surprising resilience, he continued, is noteworthy.

“The Fed will remain hawkish given the Q3 GDP growth of 4.9%, and the likely “higher for longer” interest rate regime is negative for the stock market,” Vijayakumar continued.

Positively, he said that valuations in India, which were once high, are now fair and attractive in industries like banking.

Benchmark Brent crude for global oil prices surged 1.25 percent to USD 89.03 per barrel.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded stocks on Thursday worth Rs 7,702.53 crore.

The BSE benchmark fell 900.91 points, or 1.41 percent, to close at 63,148.15 on Thursday, below the 64,000 barrier. To 18,857.25, the Nifty fell 264.90 points, or 1.39 percent.
