Maruti Suzuki reports its largest-ever Q2 net profit of Rs 3,716 crore

0

The largest car maker in India, Maruti Suzuki, announced on Friday that its standalone net profit for the quarter ended September 30 increased by 80.3% year over year to Rs 3,716.5 crore. The company attributed this increase to increased net sales, a decline in commodity prices, cost-cutting measures, and higher non-operating income.

The profit after tax (PAT) for the same period in the previous year was Rs 2,061.5 crore for the manufacturer of well-known automobile models like Baleno and Invicto.

In a statement, Maruti Suzuki said that this quarter’s sales volume, net sales, and net profit were all at record highs.

Operations’ revenue climbed 23.8% to Rs 37,062 crore from Rs 29,930.8 crore in the same period last year.

Maruti’s operating profit, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, or EBITDA, increased by 72.8% to Rs 4,784 crore in Q2 over Rs 2,769 crore in the same period in the previous fiscal year.

The company sold 552,055 units during the quarter, of which 482,731 were sold in the domestic market and 69,324 were exported.

The total sales were up by 6.7 per cent from 517,395 units sold in Q2 FY2022-23. There are 63,195 units in international markets and 454,200 units in the home market.

Auto analysts claim that the second quarter’s large increase in volume was mostly caused by the introduction of new SUVs and sales of entry-level vehicle models at reduced prices.

The increase in Maruti Suzuki’s margin was also attributed to inventorization, or high inventory levels, according to Himanshu Singh, research analyst at Prabhudas Lilladher. However, this trend should be corrected in the next few quarters.

“Structurally, MSIL was successful in shifting from mainly being in the small cars space to developing into a leader in the SUV segment as well, and we see this trend persisting,” he said.

India’s first satellite internet service launched by Reliance Jio

0

Friday saw the successful launch of Reliance Jio’s first giga-fibre service in India, which uses satellite technology to deliver high-speed, reasonably priced Internet access to remote regions of the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed the demonstration of JioSpaceFiber on the opening day of the “India Mobile Congress 2023.”

In order to gain access to the most advanced medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology available, Jio has teamed up with Luxembourg-based SES, the only MEO constellation that can provide gigabit-speed, fiber-like services from space.

“We broaden our scope to encompass the millions who are not yet connected with JioSpaceFiber,” stated Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Chairman Akash Ambani.

With gigabit access to online services for government, education, health, and entertainment, “JioSpaceFiber will allow everyone, everywhere, to fully participate in the new digital society,” Akash Ambani continued.

Currently, Jio serves over 450 million customers with high-speed fixed-line and wireless broadband services.

The availability and scope of Jio True5G will be further improved in the most remote areas of the nation by the additional capacity for mobile backhaul that the satellite network will support.

JioSpaceFiber has already been connected to four of the most remote locations in India: Gir, Gujarat; Korba, Chhattisgarh; Nabarangpur, Odisha; and ONGC-Jorhat, Assam.

“Together with Jio, we are honored to support the Indian government’s ‘Digital India’ initiative with an innovative approach that aims to deliver multiple gigabits per second of throughput to any location in India,” stated John-Paul Hemingway, Chief Strategy Officer at SES.

The speaker continued, saying, “Even in the most remote areas of the nation, we are eager to see how this will lead to digital transformation. In certain regions of India, our initial space-based fiber-like services have already been put into use.”

The two individuals detained are Rachamalla Satyanarayana (65), a resident of Bholakpur in Musheerabad, and Nakkeni Ananda Murthy (21), a construction worker from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.

The GRP claims that on Tuesday, Ananda Murthy took from Platform No. 10 of the Secunderabad railway station the backpack belonging to CRPF constable Sidharth Singh, which contained three magazines and sixty live rounds.

The GRP and RPF established eight teams to look into the matter after receiving the constable’s complaint. This involved a careful analysis of CCTV footage from the Secunderabad railway station and the area around it.

Trailer for “Deepavali”: Heartfelt Rural Drama

0

Telugu viewers have recently been impressed by rural dramas with a heart in the right place. People like Balagam have demonstrated the same. Currently, seasoned Telugu producer “Sravanthi” Ravikishore is working on a project along these lines.

A Telugu movie called “Deepavali” is being dubbed and released after the legendary producer funded a Tamil film called “Kida.” It was not too long ago that Ustaad Ram Pothineni released the movie trailer.

The trailer opens with the rural setting being established, with the main characters being a grandfather, his grandson, and their goat. Poo Ramu, who portrays an elderly man, initiates a sequence of events involving his goat in an effort to purchase a new shirt for his grandson. The voiceover provided by renowned comedian Saptagiri for the goat character has an eccentric feel.

From the looks of it, “Deepavali” is a legitimately raw and rustic drama with a unique plot that is thought to be a first attempt. The trailer accentuates the rustic aesthetics, and the background music fits the mood.

“Deepavali” was submitted for international film festivals, where it won Best Film and Best Actor prizes and was greeted with standing ovations at the International Film Festival of India, Goa, and the 20th Chennai International Film Festival.

Ra Venkat is the film’s director, and Poo Ramu and Kali Venkat play the key parts. “Sravanthi” Ravikishore is enthusiastic about the movie and plans to release it in theaters on November 11, which also happens to be the title of the festival.

Oldest Annapurna Studios Employee……..

0

There is a special place in Tollywood history for Annapurna Studios. The studio was founded in 1976 by ANR with the intention of giving filmmakers the infrastructure and assistance they needed when the film industry moved from Chennai to Hyderabad. With a sizable workforce and decades of growth, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Amala, and Supriya have been leading it.

Nagarjuna Akkineni showed his gratitude for the studio staff in a new video called “Annapurna Studio Heroes.” He emphasized in particular the commitment and allegiance of a senior worker named Ramachari, who has been employed by Annapurna Studios for almost 47 years, starting from the studio’s founding.

Video : https://youtu.be/e4TCCZZt9E0

Ramachari was the studio’s first employee, and Nagarjuna acknowledged this, stating that he has been a vital member of the Annapurna family for almost fifty years.

Even at eighty, Ramachari is still a dependable and active person. In a lighthearted aside, Nagarjuna said they could give Ramachari all of their money to store in iron boxes, knowing that he would protect their possessions.

Ramachari thanked Annapurna Studios in the same video for giving him the chance to work there. He revealed how the Akkineni family had treated him like a member of their own family, with Nagarjuna in particular. Ramachari thought about Nagarjuna and how he had supported him through difficult times and helped him build a house.

Intel working on ChatGPT-like apps for users

0

The AI boom is reportedly catching up with almost every tech company, especially rival chipmakers like Nvidia and Broadcom. Chipmaker Intel is reportedly working with multiple consulting firms to build ChatGPT-like apps for customers.

The Information reported that Intel is also selling its specialized AI, app-building software directly to corporate clients, citing sources.

According to the report, “Intel began the project with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) earlier this year but has added further consulting-firm partners.”

Intel has not yet responded to the report.

BCG and Intel announced a strategic partnership in May of this year to enable generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) using end-to-end Intel AI hardware and software. This partnership will enable enterprise clients to access fully custom and proprietary solutions while maintaining the security of their sensitive data in isolated, trusted environments.

Employees at BCG were able to retrieve and summarize information via semantic search that had previously been buried in lengthy lists of multi-page documents thanks to a custom natural language chatbot interface powered by Intel AI hardware and software.

“In order for enterprises to safely benefit from the technology, generative AI requires a truly democratized approach that enables more secure and scalable choice,” stated Sandra Rivera, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Data Center and AI Group.

In a previous statement, Rivera stated, “Our partnership with BCG enables us to assist clients in developing generative AI applications that necessitate technology optimized throughout the whole stack entirely inside their selected security perimeter.”

In the midst of an AI push, Intel is purportedly getting ready for Windows 12 with its Meteor Lake desktop platform, hinting at a “Windows refresh” for 2024.

When the 5th generation of Intel Xeon processors are released on December 14, they will offer the world’s data centers a combination of faster memory and performance enhancements while consuming the same amount of power, according to a recent company preview.

As stated by Intel, artificial intelligence (AI) is bringing about the “Siliconomy,” a new era of worldwide expansion propelled by the magic of silicon and software in which AI computers will rule our lives.

Audio and Video calls now in X

0

The Elon Musk-owned X Corp has begun to roll out support for audio and video calls in an attempt to compete with Meta-owned WhatsApp.

When opening the social media app, a number of X (formerly Twitter) users saw a notification saying, “Audio and video calls are here!”

In the app’s settings, there’s also a new toggle labeled “Enable audio and video calling.” According to the statement, you can “turn the feature on and then select who you’re comfortable using it with,” The Verge reported.

“Early version of video and audio calling on X,” wrote Musk in a post.

Before the new feature launched, X posted an enigmatic message to its users asking them to get ready for something.

Calls from verified users, individuals you follow, people in your address book, or any combination of the three are now possible with the new feature.

Video calls will be available on the platform as part of X CEO Linda Yaccarino’s announcement last month that the platform will become a “everything app.” “You’ll be able to make video chat calls without having to give your phone number to anyone on the platform,” stated the CEO of X, in a forthcoming statement.

Musk always wanted for Twitter to evolve into “an everything app,” akin to WeChat in China. Two new paid premium tiers from X will launch soon, one of which will have advertisements and cost less than the $8 monthly fee it currently charges. According to the billionaire, there will be an additional, more costly tier that eliminates all advertisements.

“X Premium plans will soon include two additional tiers. The owner of X stated that one costs more but has no ads, while the other costs less and has all the features but no fewer ads.

Google takes action on disruptive notifications and “offensive” AI apps

0

Google has made it clear to developers that all applications—including those created by AI content generators—must abide by its current developer policies, which forbid the creation of content that supports “deceptive behavior” and other types of restricted content, such as child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Updates to the developer policies were announced by the company in an effort to improve the caliber of apps available on Google Play.

Google stated that it wants to assist in making sure AI-generated content is safe for people and that their feedback is taken into consideration, in keeping with its commitment to responsible AI practices.

The internet behemoth released a statement saying, “We’ll be requiring developers to provide the ability to report or flag offensive AI-generated content without needing to exit the app” early next year.

As a reminder, Google stated that apps that use AI to create content must also abide by all other developer policies.

Certain app permissions have extra restrictions and need to be reviewed by the Google Play team in order to protect user privacy.

“We’re expanding these requirements, including a new policy to reduce the types of apps allowed to request broad photo and video permissions,” the company said. “We’ve found this has been an effective strategy to protect people’s privacy.”

Apps will only be allowed to access images and videos for reasons directly relevant to their operation under the new policy.

Applications are asked to use a system picker, like the Android photo picker, if they only occasionally or once in a while need to access these files.

Stronger restrictions are also placed on the use of full screen intent notifications, which convey urgent messages and demand the user’s immediate attention.

Google declared that only applications whose primary function necessitates a full-screen notification will by default be granted Full Screen Intent permission for Android 14 and above, and all other apps will have to request permission to use this permission.

Children who spend more time on screens may be at risk for autism or ADHD

0

A study found that children who were genetically predisposed to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were more likely to spend more time on screens.

ASD and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have been linked to extended periods of screen time during childhood. However, the findings of this study indicate that some individuals may be genetically predisposed to screen use due to ASD.

The results, which were published in the journal Psychiatry Research, demonstrated that from an early age, children who had a higher genetic predisposition to ASD used screens on their devices for longer periods of time—three hours or more each day.

Additionally, even though their initial screen time was brief, children with a high genetic risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) progressively increased their screen time as they grew older.

Lead researcher Nagahide Takahashi of Nagoya University in Japan stated, “Overall, those with a genetic risk of ASD were 1.5 times more likely to be in the group with about three hours of screen time per day, and 2.1 times more likely to be in the group with more than four hours of screen time.”

Given that children with ASD are frequently more attracted to objects than people, screen time may be an early indicator of ASD rather than its cause. Doctors ought to be aware that drawing the conclusion that extended screen time increases the likelihood of developing ASD is unfair, according to Takahashi.

To ascertain the genetic susceptibility to ASD and ADHD, researchers looked at 6.5 million polymorphisms in the DNA of 437 children. Polymorphisms are the presence of two or more variant forms of a specific DNA sequence that can occur among different individuals or populations.

They then computed a genetic risk index that takes into account the quantity and magnitude of the impacts of genetic alterations linked to ASD/ADHD. We refer to this as a “polygenic risk score.”

Subsequently, the researchers juxtaposed it with the duration of time children in a sample of 18, 32, and 40 month olds spent utilizing screens.

Additionally, Takahashi cautioned against overexposing kids with ADHD to screens on their devices.

“Our findings imply that children who are susceptible to ADHD may also be at risk for excessive screen time, particularly given the prevalence of game addiction. Given that children who are more prone to ADHD typically have longer screen times, he advised parents and caregivers to exercise caution and make a commitment to limit screen time before it becomes an issue.

These findings might also aid parents in creating more effective parenting techniques. “Parents who allow their kids to use screens may feel bad about it or receive negative feedback from others,” added Takahashi.

“Yet, we would advise providing caregivers with assistance, such as alternative behavioural management techniques.”

Rupee falls 6 paise to 83.23 against US dollar

0

For the third straight day, the rupee fell against the US dollar, losing 6 paise to 83.23 in early trade on Thursday. This decline was attributed to both a strong US dollar and unfavorable sentiment in the equity market.

Forex dealers claimed that despite the fact that crude oil prices were nearing USD 90 per barrel due to geopolitical unrest in the Middle East, the Indian rupee was also under pressure from the large-scale selling of stocks by foreign investors.

The local currency fell 6 paise from its previous close to open weakly at 83.19 on the interbank foreign exchange market, and it later reached its lowest level of 83.23 against the US dollar.

The rupee has fallen for three days now. On Monday, it fell 4 paisa, and on Wednesday, it fell 1 paisa. Due to Dussehra, forex markets were closed on Tuesday. The rupee’s closing value against the US dollar on Wednesday was 83.17.

Analysts linked the record increase in US Treasury yields to the dollar’s strengthening following encouraging US home sales data on Wednesday.

In the meantime, the dollar index, which measures the strength of the US dollar relative to a basket of six other currencies, was up 0.20 percent at 106.75 on Thursday.

Benchmark Brent crude fell 0.31% to USD 89.85 per barrel in the global oil price market.

Regarding the domestic equity market, the Nifty fell 152.15 points, or 0.80%, to 18,970, while the Sensex fell 478.55 points, or 0.75 percent, to 63,570.51.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors sold stocks on Wednesday for a total of Rs 4,236.60 crore.
