As Oracle, a prominent player in cloud computing, continues to expand its presence in the healthcare sector, Shailender Kumar, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director for Oracle India and NetSuite JAPAC, has expressed ambitious intentions to introduce Oracle’s healthcare subsidiary, Cerner, and its solutions to India.

Oracle acquired Cerner, a global provider of health information technology (HIT) services, devices, and hardware, for $28 billion last year. Speaking during the Oracle CloudWorks event in Las Vegas, Kumar stated that Oracle’s founder, Larry Ellison, is dedicated to advancing healthcare globally and acquiring Cerner was a significant step in that direction.

Kumar emphasized his substantial plans to introduce Cerner’s offerings to India, highlighting Cerner’s dominant position with 70% of the U.S. healthcare market already under its wing. Kumar underscored the potential impact of Cerner’s patient management system in India, stating that having patient records readily accessible could bring about substantial improvements in healthcare.

Regarding the applicability of such a service at institutions like AIIMS, Kumar drew parallels with the success of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in India, suggesting that innovative solutions often find unexpected success. He expressed confidence that Cerner’s services would thrive in AIIMS and across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in India. At the Oracle CloudWorks event, Larry Ellison unveiled the concept of ‘MultiCloud,’ a collaboration between Microsoft Cloud and Oracle Cloud. Kumar pointed out that Oracle’s top 10 major clients in India, including HDFC, ICICI, Reliance, and Airtel, have a strong presence on Oracle Cloud, as well as other leading cloud platforms.

He noted that Oracle’s multi-cloud approach is set to transform the landscape in the coming years. Kumar revealed that many organizations have approached Oracle to accelerate their digital transformation journeys, with new innovations like Generative AI continuously emerging. Regarding Oracle Cloud’s open-source nature, Kumar highlighted successful implementations such as the ‘Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing’ (DIKSHA) project in India, where Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) modernized the national education technology platform.

Additionally, he mentioned how Oracle Cloud attracted clients like Impartus by promising cost savings and improved performance. Oracle has established a significant presence across various industries in India, including banking, telecommunications, public sector, manufacturing, and startups, offering a comprehensive and unified range of infrastructure, platform, and software-as-a-service solutions. Kumar emphasized Oracle’s unique position in providing such a complete and unified story in the technology landscape.

Deadline Extended for Re-admitted Students to Pay AP Intermediate Exam Fees:

The Board of Intermediate Education has extended the deadline for exam fee payment for first and second-year Intermediate candidates who had previously failed or discontinued their studies. With the new deadline set for November 30, these candidates now have the opportunity to appear for the Intermediate Public Examinations scheduled for March 2024.

According to a statement from BIE secretary Saurabh Gaur, the state government has permitted the re-admission of students who did not pass their Class X and Inter examinations. This initiative aims to achieve a 100 percent gross enrollment ratio and comes with specific guidelines for the re-admission process.

According to these guidelines, re-admitted candidates are required to take all subjects in the Intermediate Public Examinations. If a student takes these exams multiple times, only the higher of the two sets of marks obtained will be taken into consideration.

The certificates awarded to these students will not categorize them as fail, compartmental, private, or with star marks. Instead, all candidates, regardless of whether they passed on their initial attempt or upon re-admission, will receive a uniform pass certificate with no distinctions.

Furthermore, all re-admitted candidates will be eligible for entitlements such as Jagananna Ammavodi, Jagananna Vidya Kanuka, Jagananna Gorumudda, and other benefits based on their eligibility.

High Court Directs Karvy and ED to Maintain the Status Quo on the Properties Attached:

The Telangana High Court has issued a directive for maintaining the status quo on the properties belonging to the Karvy Group, which were previously provisionally attached by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and subsequently unfrozen by a ruling from a single judge bench.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar has scheduled a hearing for the petitions filed by both the ED and the Karvy Group for final disposal on November 7.

Following the seizure of these properties by the ED in connection with the Karvy Stock Broking scam, the company argued that the properties and records were initially seized on September 22, 2021. Furthermore, it contended that the freeze on assets extended beyond the 180-day deadline, up until September 24, 2022.

The adjudicating authority responsible for this matter consisted of a single member who lacked legal expertise. Consequently, this authority was unable to issue a show-cause notice under Section 8(1) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) or issue an order confirming the provisional attachment of the properties.

On October 19, 2022, a single judge suspended the orders issued by the Adjudicating Authority. In response, the ED has filed appeals to challenge this decision.

On Thursday, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her criticism of the BJP-led Union government, stating that the recently passed legislation reserving seats for women in legislatures cannot be put into effect for a decade.

Addressing a rally in Mohankheda, Dhar district, which is gearing up for elections in Madhya Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the government’s timing in introducing the bill when the women’s quota couldn’t be implemented right away.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her disappointment, stating that the women’s reservation bill was introduced by the BJP-led Union government, with the support of all Opposition parties. However, the revelation that it wouldn’t be enforced for a decade and would be preceded by a census left her questioning the purpose of this announcement, feeling that it undermined the importance of Female representation.

The Congress leader pointed out that the government must conduct the delimitation exercise before enforcing the new Act, which reserves 33 percent of seats for females in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures, and this process will span a decade.

Gandhi further questioned why a caste census is not being conducted if everyone truly has equal rights. She highlighted the Bihar caste census, which revealed that 84 percent of the population comprises OBCs and Dalits, yet these communities are not adequately represented in government positions. When asked about this issue, the BJP remains silent, according to Gandhi.

Rachakonda police have issued a comprehensive list of prohibited items for the 39,000-seat Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, where the ICC One Day World Cup begins on Friday.

To ensure compliance, three mobile technicians will inspect spectators’ mobile phones at each entrance.

Police Commissioner D.S. Chauhan stated that 1,500 personnel are stationed to maintain security, with additional forces assigned to Gate-1, exclusively for players. They have prepared an evacuation plan for emergencies.

A joint command and control room, equipped with 360 cameras, has been established for monitoring CCTV footage. SHE Teams, IT teams, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, and mounted police will also be deployed. Vigilance teams will oversee pricing by authorized vendors, while vendors and hawkers are prohibited from operating outside the stadium.

Accreditation cards will not be exchangeable.

The following items are not allowed: laptops, electronic devices, batteries, banners, water bottles, cameras, cigarettes, matchboxes, lighters, sharp metal and plastic objects, binoculars, coins, writing pens, helmets, bags, perfumes, and outside food.

Parking restrictions are in place, and spectators cannot park vehicles on either side of the main road from Genpact to Uppal Ring Road and Uppal Ring Road to Vishal Mart, Ramanthapur.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that the state has submitted a petition to the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) requesting a review of its directive regarding water release to Tamil Nadu. He also stated that preparations are underway for constructing the Mekedatu balancing reservoir on the river.

Despite recent rainfall in some areas, Shivakumar emphasized the water scarcity in Cauvery basin reservoirs. He mentioned the government’s efforts to safeguard standing crops and expressed hope for more rain in the coming days.

The state has appealed to the CWMA, expressing its inability to release even 3,000 cusecs of water. Regarding the Mekedatu project, he assured me that legal preparations are being made.

When asked about the possibility of approaching the Supreme Court, Shivakumar indicated a step-by-step approach, emphasizing the need for careful consideration.

Regarding the formulation of a distress water-sharing formula during deficit rainfall years, he suggested addressing the issue after the current year.

The CWMA had previously directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu until October 15, despite Karnataka’s claims of inadequate reservoir storage.

Shivakumar reiterated that the Mekedatu balancing reservoir is the state’s preferred solution to resolve inter-state water disputes during periods of water scarcity. However, Tamil Nadu opposes the project, citing concerns for its interests and those of its farmers.

Shivakumar noted the current water deficit, with 106 tmc of water required and only 56 tmc available in Cauvery basin reservoirs. While there was an increase in inflow due to recent rainfall, it has since decreased.

He highlighted the protection of standing crops thanks to the available water, considering the drought declaration. The state has advised against fresh crop planting until sufficient water availability is confirmed, with expectations of further rain next month guiding future decisions.

CBI Probes Actor Vishal’s Allegations Against Censor Board:

Tamil actor Vishal, who regained success with his hit film ‘Mark Antory,’ leveled serious allegations against certain individuals and officials within the Central Board of Film Certification.

Promptly responding to the allegations, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a case against three private individuals and numerous unidentified persons, which also involves officials from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The actor claimed that he was required to offer a bribe of Rs 6.5 lakh in order to obtain a censor certificate for the Hindi version of his movie, “Mark Antony,” which made its debut on September 28.

CBI stated that in September 2023, an allegation was made that an individual conspired with others to secure a bribe of Rs. 7,00,000/- and obtain the necessary censor certificate from CBFC, Mumbai for a Hindi-dubbed movie.

Furthermore, it was claimed that as part of this conspiracy, she initially requested a bribe of Rs. 7,00,000/- from the complainant on behalf of CBFC Mumbai officials. After negotiations, she purportedly received Rs. 6,54,000/- as a bribe on behalf of CBFC Mumbai officials, with the amount being deposited into two bank accounts belonging to two other accused individuals.

The agency reported that the accused received 20,000 in her bank account from a private company.

Furthermore, the agency conducted searches at four locations in Mumbai connected to the accused and additional individuals, resulting in the discovery of compelling evidence. The individuals named in the case are Merlin Menaga, Jeeja Ramdas, and Rajan M.

In a prior video statement, Vishal addressed Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, detailing the situation. He explained that they initially applied for a certificate online, but due to a technical issue, they had to visit the CBFC office in Mumbai at the last minute. To their surprise, upon visiting the office, they were presented with the option to pay 6.5 lakh rupees to obtain the certification on the same day, leaving them with no alternative.

Vishal further disclosed that they were required to pay 3 lakh rupees for the screening to take place at the CBFC and an additional 3.5 lakh rupees to obtain the certificate. He mentioned that a woman informed him that it was a common practice for individuals to pay 4 lakh rupees when submitting films 15 days before the release date. Feeling compelled, they made the payments in two installments. Vishal urged higher authorities to investigate such practices if they are prevalent in government offices.

Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced a substantial investment of Rs 68.77 crore in education, including an increase in the monthly food expenses for government school students staying in hostels from Rs 1000 to Rs 1400, and for college students from Rs 1100 to Rs 1500. Additionally, the Chief Minister made several other announcements during his concluding speech at the two-day conference attended by district collectors, police officers, and district forest officers. These announcements include raising funds for the rehabilitation of reformed bootleggers from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, exploring video conferencing options for trail prisoners’ appearances before judges, renovating hostels for marginalized communities, and expediting the construction of link roads to Scheduled Tribe settlements.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the issues and concerns raised by officials during the conference and pledged to address them in the future. He emphasized the importance of public service and urged district collectors to be more accessible to the public by designating visiting hours in their offices. He also encouraged officials to personally visit accident sites and areas affected by natural disasters to oversee relief operations and offer a listening ear to those with grievances.

Regarding domestic violence, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin reiterated his government’s zero-tolerance policy and called on officials to follow up on such cases. He instructed the Home Secretary to prepare a plan for this follow-up operation and share it with the police department in Tamil Nadu.

Stalin urged officials to approach every project with dedication and responsibility, emphasizing that the success of welfare schemes depends on passionate implementation. He also advised departments involved in land-related issues to hold coordination meetings to resolve disputes related to land surveys, public land use, and temple land.

The National Turmeric Board (NTB) will comprise a chairperson appointed by the central government, members from various ministries, and representatives from both central and state governments. It will also include institutions engaged in turmeric research, as well as farmers and exporters. Additionally, a secretary will be appointed by the Department of Commerce.

India holds a dominant position as the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of turmeric globally. In the 2022-23 season, turmeric was cultivated across 3.24 lakh hectares in India, resulting in a production of 11.61 lakh tonnes, representing over 75% of the world’s turmeric production. India boasts more than 30 varieties of turmeric cultivated in over 20 states, with Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu being the leading producers. India’s share in the global turmeric trade stands at over 62%.

National Turmeric Board Aims to Enhance Prospects for Growers

During 2022-23, India exported 1.534 lakh tonnes of turmeric and turmeric products valued at INR 4207.45 million, involving over 380 exporting firms. Key export markets for Indian turmeric include Bangladesh, the UAE, the USA, and Malaysia.

With the National Turmeric Board’s dedicated efforts, it is anticipated that turmeric exports will reach INR 1 billion by 2030.

The Delhi family court granted a divorce to cricketer Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday, citing cruelty as the grounds for the petitioner’s (Shikhar Dhawan) entitlement to the divorce decree.

The judge at Harish Kumar’s family court, dissolving their 11-year-old marriage, stated, “There is no dispute that both parties had mutually consented to seek a divorce, and their marriage had been lifeless for quite some time. They have not been living as husband and wife since August 8, 2020.”

The court observed that the deliberate choice of the respondent/estranged wife not to challenge this matter signifies her wish for the court to issue the divorce decree, even if it entails attributing matrimonial wrongdoing to her. She is aware that she will not be harmed even if found guilty of treating the petitioner with cruelty, as she has already secured favorable orders from the Federal Circuit and Family Court in Australia.”

“This mindset has given her the confidence to deliberately and intentionally disregard the court’s orders dated March 2, 2023, and June 6, 2023. Therefore, considering the facts and circumstances of the case discussed above, the petitioners are entitled to a divorce decree on grounds of cruelty,” the court added.

The BRS, filled with anger over Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s recent statements regarding his conversations with Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, launched a scathing attack on Modi and the BJP. Several BRS leaders criticized Modi, and the party’s members used social media platforms to express their displeasure.

Although Party leaders downplayed Modi’s remarks, they seemed genuinely concerned about how his message was being received by their cadre on the ground. The Prime Minister’s statements in Nizamabad appeared to have raised significant concerns within the Party.

Numerous BRS leaders publicly criticized Modi, with the party using cartoons, video clips, and comments on social media to convey their disdain for him. For instance, Rama Rao used Twitter to highlight that in 2018, the BJP had offered support the Party to form the state government, which sparked protests from the BJP. The party also accused the Modi government of privatizing some of the country’s valuable assets on the same platform.

The BRS conducted an online campaign centered on the theme of ‘Modi’s salesmanship,’ featuring videos of Rama Rao refuting Modi’s claims at the BJP’s Nizamabad public meeting. The party used slogans like “While KCR stands for ‘nammakam’ (belief), Modi is for ‘ammakam’ (selling away)” in multiple posts on social media.

Furthermore, the BRS criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for suggesting that Modi’s statements in Nizamabad indicated an alliance between the party and the BJP. The Party questioned Rahul Gandhi’s inconsistency, stating that his hypocrisy was no different from Modi’s falsehoods.

The Andhra Pradesh government eagerly awaits the Terms of Reference (ToR) approved by the Union Cabinet in New Delhi for the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal-II (KWDT-II). Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Union Cabinet meeting, which approved the ToR under section 5(1) of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956.

These terms will facilitate the resolution of disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana concerning the use, distribution, and control of Krishna River waters. The Union Cabinet believes that resolving this issue will spur growth in both states and benefit their populations.

Currently, both states are in disagreement over water allocation, with Andhra Pradesh allotted 512 tmc ft annually and Telangana receiving 299 tmc ft, based on their respective projects. Telangana seeks an equal 50% allocation, while Andhra Pradesh opposes this change.

A senior official from Andhra Pradesh’s water resources department emphasized the importance of understanding the ToR’s details and their potential impact on the state’s water allocation, which is currently based on project numbers.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone online for nine projects and inaugurated three projects in the food processing and ethanol production sectors from his office in Tadepalli.

Reddy highlighted that due to the state’s favorable Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) policies, industrialists are keen to invest a total of Rs 3,008 crore in 13 projects, which will create direct employment opportunities for 7,000 local youths and benefit 91,000 farmers through food processing units. He also assured full cooperation and support to these companies and expressed readiness to address any issues they may encounter.

Reddy thanked the district collectors for their swift cooperation with industrialists and anticipated that these new industries would be operational within the next 6 to 18 months, contributing to the economic development of the region and providing jobs for local residents.

The Chief Minister inaugurated several industrial and food processing units during the event, each with its own investment and employment prospects.

TTD Initiates Reconstruction of Ancient Stone Mandapam in Alipiri:

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has initiated the reconstruction of the ancient Stone Mandapam, a significant resting place for devotees visiting the Tirumala temple. Situated near the Alipiri Padala Mandapam, this historically important structure has deteriorated over time, necessitating a thorough renovation.

After an assessment by the TTD engineering department concluded that restoring the structure to its original condition was not feasible, it was decided that the renovation project, estimated to cost ₹1.36 crore, would make use of the existing stone pillars and roof while preserving the historical essence of the iconic structure.

Dharma Reddy, the TTD executive officer, announced this decision after inspecting the deteriorated stone mandapam near Alipiri in Tirupati on Wednesday. He explained that in the 16th Century, kings of that era erected two stone mandapams on either side of the path near the Alipiri Padala Mandapam. These mandapams served as resting places for pilgrims who journeyed from distant locations before embarking on the trek to the Tirumala hills.

“One of these ancient mandapams, which had endured the test of time for centuries, now finds itself in a state of ruin. Notably, the renovation project will repurpose the existing stone pillars and roof, preserving the historical significance of the site,” he stated.

Additionally, he stated, “The rear wall of the mandapam has caved in, prompting the installation of a protective barrier to ensure pilgrims do not access the hazardous zone. Reconstruction work, with a budget of ₹1.36 crore, is set to commence soon, ensuring the preservation of this historical gem for generations to come.”

Dharma Reddy also cautioned against the spread of false information, recalling a previous incident when the TTD renovated the Paruveta Mandapam in Tirumala, and it faced a social media campaign that hurt the sentiments of devotees.
