New York City Declares Emergency Due to Heavy Rainfall:

Heavy rain pounded the New York metropolitan area on Friday, causing widespread disruptions, including subway and commuter rail line closures, highway standstills, basement flooding, and a temporary shutdown of LaGuardia Airport. This deluge marked one of the city’s rainiest days in decades.

By midday, certain parts of Brooklyn had already received nearly 7 inches (18 centimeters) of rain, with some areas experiencing an astonishing 2.5 inches (6 centimeters) in a single hour, according to reports from weather and city authorities. Meanwhile, John F. Kennedy Airport recorded nearly 8 inches (20 centimeters) of rainfall, surpassing its September daily record set during Hurricane Donna in 1960, as confirmed by the National Weather Service.

Further heavy rainfall was predicted to continue.

This event occurred two years after the remnants of Hurricane Ida brought record-breaking rainfall to the Northeast, resulting in at least 13 fatalities in New York City, particularly in flooded basement apartments. While no fatalities or severe injuries have been reported as of yet from Friday’s storm, it evoked unsettling memories of that prior disaster.

Telugu Actresses Marginalized as Mere Glamorous Props in Films:

In the world of Telugu cinema, the recent much-anticipated action film ‘Skanda’ disappointed fans by relegating the talented actress Sreeleela to a few songs and scenes. This pattern of male-dominant storylines appears to persist in the industry, impacting even renowned actresses like Tamannaah (in ‘Bholaa Shankar’), Shruti Haasan (‘Veera Simha Reddy’), Ritu Varma (‘Mark Antony’), Anu Emmanuel (‘Ravanasura’), and Sakshi Vaidya (‘Agent’). These actresses often find themselves relegated to dance sequences and comic relief roles while the male heroes take center stage and occupy the majority of screen time.

This trend is disheartening for actresses who possess the talent to deliver exceptional performances beyond just looking attractive on screen, according to industry insiders. Director Teja, who ensured equal importance for Kajal Aggarwal in his successful film ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri,’ emphasizes the need for a balance between the roles of heroes and heroines.

He points out that even legendary actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth have shared significant screen time with their female co-stars. For instance, Aishwarya Rai had a pivotal role opposite Rajnikanth in ‘Robo,’ and the massive success of ‘Baahubali’ can be attributed to the roles played by Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, and Ramya Krishna.

Producer Vishnu Induri, on the other hand, dismisses claims of bias among producers and directors, stating that the prominence of male leads is primarily script-dependent. While acknowledging that the industry is hero-centric due to the star power and fan following, he contends that there are films where heroines have substantial and impactful roles. He emphasizes that the industry isn’t inherently biased and decisions are based on the specific demands of each script.

Two-wheelers allowed on Tirumala’s Ghat Roads Until 10 p.m:

Starting from Saturday, two-wheelers will have access to Tirumala’s twin ghat roads until 10 p.m. This decision was made by TTD executive officer A.V. Dharma Reddy during a meeting with devasthanam officials at Annamaiah Bhavan in Tirumala on Friday evening.

After leopards were sighted along the ghat roads and Alipiri footpath, the TTD imposed restrictions on two-wheelers, prohibiting their movement on the ghat roads from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Subsequently, thanks to collaborative efforts between the TTD and the state forest department, six wild cats were successfully captured.

“After a week of surveillance during which forest authorities confirmed no further threats, TTD Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has made the decision to permit two-wheelers on the ghat roads until 10 p.m.,” stated Dharma Reddy.

‘Game Changer’ has been in production for the past two years, and Ram Charan was eagerly looking forward to collaborating with director Shankar, known for blockbusters like ‘Robo’ and ‘Aparachitudu.’ However, various issues have caused delays in the shooting, leaving producer Dil Raju preparing for a summer release to ensure the film’s completion.

Director Buchi Babu and other significant projects had to be put on hold as a result.

BJP Leaders Raise Objections to KTR’s Remarks About PM Modi

BJP Leaders Raise Objections to KTR’s Remarks About PM Modi:

BJP leaders have strongly criticized Minister K.T Rama Rao’s comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that the minister resorts to such topics to gain media attention. Rama Rao recently referred to PM Modi as a “trickster.”

In response to these remarks, D.K. Aruna, BJP’s national vice president, remarked, “KTR frequently levels allegations against the BJP during his visits to Mahaboobnagar district. The BRS government altered the design of the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) project and did not even submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) until six months ago. The project, originally intended to draw water from Jurala, was shifted to Srisailam. PRLIS does not have a guaranteed water allocation. K Chandrashekar Rao accepted the allocation formula of 299 TMC of water for Telangana out of the 811 TMC available in the Krishna river.”

Aruna emphasized that there is an ample water supply at Jurala, which the state can access without interruption or permissions, unlike Srisailam, which both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have claims to. However, Telangana has not fully utilized the 299 TMC of water allocated to the region by completing necessary projects. Aruna also accused the BRS of favoring high-cost projects to secure commissions. She noted that the government has failed to compensate farmers for their acquired land, and canals for water distribution to fields have not been dug.

Regarding project negligence, she pointed out, “KCR, who previously touted the Rajolibanda diversion scheme with the capacity to irrigate 87,000 acres in Alampur assembly constituency with an expenditure of just Rs 796 crores, has neglected it. The project with a capacity of 15.9 TMC has been pending for nine years without budget allocation. It seems he intends to spend money to secure electoral victories.”

BJP’s state general secretary, Gujjula Premender Reddy, alleged that the BRS leaders lacked a clear agenda and criticized the state government for not adhering to the necessary norms to grant national status to the PRLIS project. He highlighted that the central government has provided loans at concessional interest rates and granted permissions, emphasizing that such comments are made for electoral purposes.

Reddy also noted that the central government has allocated Rs. 9 lakh crores to the Telangana State government thus far. He pointed out that the state government’s budget allocation for development projects is only Rs. 50,000 crores to Rs. 60,000 crores annually, with the remainder being utilized for salaries and other expenses. Reddy stressed the need for a double-engine government in Telangana and expressed the belief that the BRS is on the brink of defeat.

Final Day for Exchanging rupee Rs 2000 Notes Today:

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified that the 2,000 rupee banknote will lose its value after September 30 and will be considered as mere paper if not exchanged at a bank.

This clarification was issued following reports suggesting a possible extension of the September 30 deadline for returning 2,000 rupee notes until the end of October. Today is the last for the Exchanging.

On May 19, the RBI withdrew the 2,000 rupee notes from circulation, providing nearly four months for individuals to deposit or exchange them. The deadline for this exchange was set for September 30, which is today. Individuals still have time today as banks will be open due to it being the 5th Saturday. They can visit their nearest bank branch to exchange or deposit the 2,000 notes. These notes can also be exchanged or deposited at bank branches and regional RBI offices. Even non-account holders can exchange 2,000 notes up to a limit of 20,000 at a time at any bank branch.

After September 30, while these notes will remain legal tender, they will not be accepted for transactions and can only be exchanged with the RBI.

Earlier on September 2, the RBI reported that 93 percent of the 2,000 banknotes that were in circulation on May 19 had been returned to banks.

Data from major banks indicated that out of the total 2,000 rupee banknotes received, about 87 percent were in the form of deposits and Exchanges, while approximately 13 percent had been exchanged for banknotes of other denominations.

Final Day for Exchanging rupee Rs 2000 Note Today

Introduced in November 2016, the 2,000 banknotes were primarily meant to address the currency requirements of the economy quickly after the withdrawal of the legal tender status of all 500 and 1,000 banknotes at that time. Exchanging the 2000 rupees notes in the banks is compulsory because banks won’t accept any further.

The objective behind introducing the 2,000 banknotes was fulfilled when banknotes of other denominations became available in sufficient quantities. Consequently, the printing of 2,000 banknotes was halted in the financial year 2018-19.

KTR-Harish Duo Takes on Congress in Battle:

The BRS intensified its criticism of the Congress, with ministers K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and T. Harish Rao leading the charge and urging the public to reject the Opposition party in the upcoming elections. The more forceful of the two verbal assaults was delivered by Rama Rao during a public gathering in Wanaparthy.

He strongly criticized Congress, stating, “BRS stands for schemes, while Congress stands for scams.” KTR encouraged voters to ensure that other parties lose their deposits in the elections and advocated for the BRS’s return to power in the state. He emphasized the importance of the BRS’s support in forming the government at the national level.

KTR pointed out that during decades of Congress rule, the Palamuru region suffered from migration and water scarcity. He credited the BRS Bharat Rashtra Samithi government with bringing irrigation and drinking water to the area, remarking, “For Palamuru, Congress signifies migration, while BRS signifies irrigation.” He also urged people to vote for Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, the agriculture minister and criticized former Congress MLA G. Chinna Reddy for complaining about Wanaparthy’s development despite the Congress representing the constituency for 50 years. Rama Rao likened the Congress to a party in decline, suggesting that their promises were empty and that their rule would result in a revolving door of chief ministers, inadequate public services, and corruption.

In Nakrekal, Harish Rao spoke at a BRS public meeting and highlighted the BRS’s previous success in winning all 12 seats despite claims by Congress leaders that they had a strong influence in Nalgonda. He criticized Congress leaders like Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, and N. Uttam Kumar Reddy for their inability to establish a market yard for lemon and sweet lime farmers during their tenure.

Harish Rao credited the BRS, under KCR’s leadership, for bringing about positive changes such as irrigation, clean drinking water, and 24-hour electricity supply for farmers. Campaigning for Chirumarthi Lingaiah, the BRS candidate from Nakrekal, Harish Rao accused the Congress of selling its election tickets for large sums and claimed that the party prioritized its own interests over those of the people. He asserted that Congress had failed to deliver during its previous tenure and was now falsely claiming a lack of adequate power supply, contrasting it with the BRS’s commitment to providing 24-hour electricity to the public.

The Telangana High Court has issued a notice to the Telangana state government, inquiring about the delay in releasing funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the development of the Mulugu constituency. This delay has persisted despite the funds being officially sanctioned on paper. Dr. Justice Chillakur Sumalatha took action in response to a complaint filed by Danasari Anasuya Seetakka, a Congress MLA representing Mulugu.

She asserted that the state government had not approved the funds designated for the development of her constituency, alleging that her pleas were being disregarded due to her affiliation with the Congress party and her past association with Maoists. The court has directed notices to be sent to various government officials, including the chief secretary, principal secretaries of planning, finance, roads and buildings, tribal welfare, women and child welfare departments, as well as the district collector of Mulugu district. They have been given a ten-day deadline to respond.

The petitioner’s legal representatives, Senior Counsel Sripada Prabhakar and Naguluri Krishna Kumar Goud emphasized that the CDF funds allocated to the Mulugu constituency would expire as the MLA’s term ends in January. Despite the state government increasing CDF allocations for each constituency, the Mulugu constituency received only a meager budget, resulting in a lack of developmental projects for the district’s residents.

She Team Decoy Operations Empower Hyderabad’s Female Travelers:

Over the past three months, the Rachakonda She Team has garnered praise for their undercover decoy operations aimed at ensuring the safety of women passengers on the Metro Rail in Hyderabad. These covert missions involve female officers posing as regular passengers while discreetly monitoring and apprehending individuals who harass women.

In one notable case, a constable played a pivotal role in a decoy operation that led to the apprehension of a retired senior police official and a journalist. These officers move inconspicuously among passengers, equipped with body cameras. During one operation, a retired police officer was caught inappropriately touching a woman in a crowded Metro train. He had been traveling in the ladies’ compartment, making women uncomfortable. The She Team intervened promptly and filed a case against him.

In a similar incident, a journalist from a renowned news channel was apprehended while traveling from Nagole. He had been attempting to engage and harass female passengers. It was during his second boarding of the train that the She Team identified and apprehended him. Despite his threats to involve higher officials due to his connections, his efforts proved futile, and he was subsequently referred for counseling.

The She Team’s operations are conducted daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and involve extensive travel across various modes of transportation. Seven teams operate in areas with high crowd density. Their presence is increasingly sought after by both Metro Rail authorities and passengers, who value the assurance of passenger safety they provide.

Hyderabad’s Pubs and Bars Spring Back to Life Starting Today:

Big bash events and revelry are set to return to pubs and bars as party-goers make their way back to their favorite hangout spots this weekend. This marks a fresh start for customers who had to abstain from their beloved drinks and non-vegetarian dishes during Sravan and the festive season that began in August.

Following the conclusion of the Ganesh idol immersion on Friday, tavern and bar owners have prepared special plans to welcome back patrons and their regular clientele. Most taverns and bars saw a decrease in attendance over the past few weeks.

Dora Madan Goud from a bar in Machabolaram noted, “Alcohol and non-veg sales saw a 50 percent drop.” Prabhu Ravikanth David, manager of a pub in Begumpet, commented, “This part of the business is influenced by people’s sentiments. After consistently having 100 percent occupancy, our pub’s attendance dropped significantly. I am confident that starting this weekend, we will see more table reservations. To mark this occasion, we have scheduled performances by renowned DJs.”

The timing seems perfect with the upcoming cricket World Cup, which is expected to bring in more customers. According to A. Jaya Prakash, the general manager of a brewery, “The days of low attendance will be a thing of the past. The World Cup will attract youth, families, and cricket enthusiasts. Furthermore, our pub boasts the largest screens in the twin cities, and there will be live music to enhance the celebration.”
