Shah’s Kerala visit postponed

0

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Kerala’s Thrissur on March 5 to address the party’s rally has been postponed, said state BJP president K.Surendran.

All arrangements for his visit and the party programs had been finalized when the change in plans came.

Even though the state party unit said that Shah is presently tied up with post-election activities in the northeast states where the BJP is busy forming governments, speculation is the visit has been postponed as the statewide yatra of the CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan is also reaching Trissur on the day.

Incidentally, Thrissur is a stronghold of the BJP as superstar Suresh Gopi put up a spirited fight at the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and also in the 2021 Assembly polls.

The state BJP unit said that Shah will be coming soon.

3rd Test: It was a complete performance in the end, says Steve Smith after emphatic win

0

Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith said his side produced a complete performance by the end of the third Test at Holkar Stadium, which they won by nine wickets.

In Australia winning the Indore Test, Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon shined with five-fer and eight-fer respectively while Usman Khawaja made a fine 60 in the first innings to give the visitors an 88-run lead.

In chasing 76, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne slammed unbeaten knocks of 49 and 28 respectively to complete a comprehensive nine-wicket victory and qualify for the WTC final as well as make the series scoreline 2-1.

“I think obviously that first day, losing the toss and having to bowl first. But our bowlers did really well, specially Kuhnemann. All our bowlers contributed. With the bat, Usman was really good in the first innings.”

“We had some good partnerships. India bowled really well in the back end, we had a bit of a collapse. We had to toil hard yesterday, Pujji (Cheteshwar Pujara) played a good knock, but all our bowlers did really well. It was a complete performance in the end,” said Smith in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Smith, who took the captaincy as regular skipper Pat Cummins went home for personal reasons, further said he enjoyed captaining Australia in the Indore Test.

“We are thinking of Patty back home, our thoughts are with him. But I really enjoyed this week. I like captaining in this part of the world. I think I understand a lot of the intricacies.”

“It’s a place that I really enjoy and I think I did a reasonable job this week. The approach will be much the same. We have to see what the conditions are like. It’s good to be in the WTC final but it’s just about playing good cricket. Hopefully, we can finish the series well.”

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who was adjudged Player of the Match for his 8-64 in India’s second innings, stated that belief in his variations was key in putting Australia on the path to victory.

“It’s been a pretty remarkable series. But to come out here and put out a good team performance was pretty special. I don’t have all the skills and all the tricks in the trade but the one thing I have is the belief in my stock ball.”

“And I think if you have that, you can get success. I don’t think I’ve mastered it. I’ve been lucky enough to challenge against some of the best players to play the game, the likes of Virat and Pujji and the rest of the guys. I just like challenging myself.”

3rd Test: We didn’t bat well in the first innings, admits Rohit Sharma after 9-wicket loss

0

After a comprehensive nine-wicket loss to Australia in the third Test here, India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that the hosts paid the price of not batting well in the first innings.

On Day One of the Test, India lost even wickets in the first session after electing to bat first, as Matthew Kuhnemann ran through to pick his maiden five-wicket haul as they were bowled out for a meager 109.

“When you lose a Test match, there’s a lot of things that didn’t go our way. To start with, we didn’t bat well in the first innings. We understand how important it is to put runs on the board in the first innings. And obviously, when they got an 80-90 run lead, we needed to put in a big performance with the bat but we couldn’t do that, taking just a 75-run lead,” he said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

In the second innings, barring top-order batter Cheteshwar Pujara’s 59, none of the batters stepped up as Nathan Lyon took an eight-wicket haul. We had to try and be brave, which I think we were not. We can take a lot of credit as well, how we batted in the first two games.”

“One odd game can happen where things don’t come together, but even then you need players to come together and chip in. We wanted a few guys to stand up but it didn’t happen. We were slightly behind and we did not apply ourselves the way we would have liked to.”

India’s bowlers also struggled later as Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne helped Australia take an 88-run lead. With the series scoreline at 2-1, India now needs to win the fourth and final Test at Ahmedabad, starting from March 9, to get a shot at sealing a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

“Honestly, we haven’t thought about it yet. We just finished this Test now so we need to regroup and try. We need to understand that we need to improve as a team. When you are playing on challenging pitches you have to bowl. We allowed their bowlers to bowl in one spot. Not to take any credit away from their bowlers, Nathan Lyon especially.”

SC declines immediate listing of plea seeking hearing on Karnataka hijab matter

0

The Supreme Court on Friday turned down a plea to immediately list a plea seeking permission to allow students to appear in annual examinations in Karnataka’s pre-university colleges with their head scarf.

A woman lawyer mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud. The lawyer submitted that exams are five days later and added they had come earlier also and sought urgent listing of the plea.

The bench told the lawyer, “You come on the last date, what can we do?” The Chief Justice said the new bench to hear the matter will be created after the Holi break.

On February 22, the Supreme Court agreed to examine a plea for hearing by a group of students seeking permission to allow them to appear in annual examinations in Karnataka’s pre-university colleges with their head scarf.

Advocate Shadan Farasat, appearing on behalf of the students, had then submitted before a bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud that they had to appear in annual examinations beginning on March 9 in government colleges.

The top court queried the council, why are they prevented from taking the examination. The counsel replied because of the headscarf and further added that the students had already lost one year and if no relief was granted, they would lose another year. The bench said the plea for listing would be examined.

On January 23, the Supreme Court agreed to examine a plea to constitute a three-judge bench to consider petitions challenging the ban on hijab in classrooms of pre-university colleges in Karnataka.

The Supreme Court, in October last year, gave a split verdict on petitions challenging the validity of the ban on hijab worn by some Muslim girl students in classrooms of pre-university colleges in Karnataka. The split verdict was delivered by a bench comprising Justices Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia.

Justice Gupta retired now, upheld the Karnataka government circular, and dismissed the appeals against the Karnataka High Court judgment. However, Justice Dhulia quashed the Karnataka government’s decision to ban the wearing of hijab inside classrooms of pre-university colleges, saying that the Constitution is also a document of trust and it is the trust the minorities have reposed upon the majority.

Justice Dhulia, in his judgment, said: “We live in a democracy and under the Rule of Law, and the laws which govern us must pass muster the Constitution of India. Amongst many facets of our Constitution, one is Trust. Our Constitution is also a document of Trust. It is the trust the minorities have reposed upon the majority.”

The bench had then said since there is a divergence of views, the matter would be posted before the Chief Justice of India for setting up a larger bench.

China blames ‘certain developed country’ for Pakistan’s financial crisis

0

In an apparent reference to the US, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the financial policies of a “certain developed country” were the main reason behind the financial difficulties of a large number of developing nations, including Pakistan.

The spokesperson called on concerted efforts of all parties to play a constructive role in the economic and social development of the country, The Express Tribune reported.

“It must be pointed out that the financial policy of a certain developed country is the main reason behind the financial difficulties of a large number of developing countries including Pakistan,” Mao Ning said while responding to a question during her regular briefing.

She said that the West-led commercial creditors and the multilateral financial institutions were the basic creditors for developing countries and called on concerted efforts of all parties to play a constructive role in the economic and social development of Pakistan, The Express Tribune reported.

“China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperation partners and iron-clad friends. The two sides have supported each other,” Mao highlighted.

“China always carries out economic and financial cooperation with Pakistan and helps Pakistan to achieve steady economic growth, improve its livelihood and achieve independence development,” she added.

On the Ukraine issue, she said that China’s position has all along been objective and fair.

Italian President pays tribute to victims of migrant disaster

0

Italian President Sergio Mattarella paid tribute to the 67 asylum seekers who lost their liver earlier this week after their boat capsized off the coast of Crotone.

It was the first time in years that such a high-ranking official has traveled to the site of a disaster involving migrants, reports Xinhua news agency.

Migration is a polarising issue in Italy, which has been calling for policy reforms at the European Union (EU) level to help dilute the social and economic impact of migrant arrivals.

Italy is the most common landing point in Europe for migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea.

The ship that capsized on Sunday with as many as 200 migrants on board was headed to the southern Italian region of Calabria from Turkey.

Italy is the main destination for asylum seekers setting off from Turkey, the eastern route, as well as from Libya and Tunisia via the central route.

Around 80 people survived the disaster, but the death toll may rise far higher than the current official figure of 67.

Mattarella on Thursday paused to pay tribute to the coffins laid out at the Palamilione Sports Center in Crotone, spoke with local officials, and visited a hospital where 15 survivors are being treated.

He also distributed toys to children in the hospital’s pediatric ward.

Mattarella has reportedly promised to support the repatriation of the bodies of those who died in the accident, as well as help survivors.

The President’s visit is seen as an important symbolic gesture during a period of debate over migrant policy and over the country’s role in setting EU policy in the area.

3rd Test, Day 3: Head, Labuschagne take Australia to comprehensive nine-wicket win over India

0

Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne slammed unbeaten 49 and 28 respectively to take Australia to a comprehensive nine-wicket win over India in the third Test at Holkar Stadium on Friday.

Day three’s play began with Australia needing 76 runs to win on a minefield of a pitch. Despite losing Usman Khawaja early for a two-ball duck, Head, and Labuschagne were able to make short work of the target and got the job done in 18.5 overs to make the four-game scoreline 2-1.

The victory also means that Australia have qualified for the World Test Championship final, to be held from June 7-11 at The Oval in London.

The day began with Ravichandran Ashwin getting an outside edge on Khawaja’s forward defense and KS Bharat catching it behind. Khawaja went for a review, but replays showed a healthy spike on the UltraEdge, giving India some relief.

A fiercely determined Ashwin asked tough questions of Head and Labuschagne and even took a DRS against the latter when Virat Kohli, at leg-slip, took a diving catch, which resulted in India burning a review.

After some quiet overs as Australia was just 13/1 in ten overs, Head broke the shackles by whacking Ashwin over mid-on for four and followed it up with a huge six down the ground in the 11th over where India had got to change the ball.

Head welcomed Ravindra Jadeja by hammering a four over his head and Labuschagne ended the over by sweeping the left-arm spinner through mid-wicket for another boundary in the over

When Ashwin overpitched, Labuschagne quickly brought out the cover drive for a delightful four. When Jadeja sent in an arm ball, Head played the cut late through the backward point for another boundary.

Ashwin was taken apart in the 15th over, as Head danced down the pitch to punch through cover while Labuschagne placed a reverse sweep well through the backward point to make it two fours in the over.

India introduced Umesh Yadav in the bowling attack as a last throw of dice. But Head and Labuschagne were unstoppable; the former slapped the Vidarbha pacer through cover while the latter pulled past square leg to make it two boundaries.

When Ashwin pitched up, Head smacked down the ground for four. Labuschagne finished off the chase in style by dancing down the pitch and lofting past mid-on for four to take Australia to an emphatic Test victory in India, and they’re first in the country since the 2017 win in Pune.

Brief scores: Australia 197 and 78/1 in 18.5 overs (Travis Head 49 not out, Marnus Labuschagne 28 not out; Ravichandran Ashwin 1-44) beat India 109 and 163 by nine wickets

US unveils new cybersecurity strategy, puts onus on Big Tech

0

The Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration in the US has issued a new cybersecurity strategy that puts the onus on Big Tech companies in preventing cyber attacks.

The National Cybersecurity Strategy stressed rebalancing the responsibility to defend cyberspace by “shifting the burden for cybersecurity away from individuals, small businesses, and local governments, and onto the organizations that are most capable and best-positioned to reduce risks for all of us”.

The strategy also singled out China as “the broadest, most active, and most persistent threat to both government and private sector networks.”

The strategy said that we must realign incentives to favor long-term investments by “striking a careful balance between defending ourselves against urgent threats today and simultaneously strategically planning for and investing in a resilient future”.

It said that while using all instruments of national power, “we will make malicious cyber actors incapable of threatening the national security or public safety of the United States” and address ransomware threats through a comprehensive Federal approach and in “lockstep with our international partners”.

The country will place responsibility on those within its digital ecosystem that are best positioned to reduce risk and shift the consequences of poor cybersecurity away from the most vulnerable “in order to make our digital ecosystem more trustworthy”.

The US has lately seen several nation-state cyber attacks on its industry and government institutions, especially from China-backed bad actors.

The US “seeks a world where responsible state behavior in cyberspace is expected and reinforced and where irresponsible behavior is isolating and costly”.

Keep teens out of your metaverse dream, US Senators tell Zuckerberg

0

US Senators have urged Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to stop plans to open its metaverse platforms to teenagers.

Meta may open access to its social virtual reality (VR) platform Horizon Worlds for users aged 13 to 17 this month as it struggles to grow its VR business.

According to TechCrunch, Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Ed Markey (D-MA) wrote a letter to Zuckerberg urging him to halt Meta’s plans to open Horizon Worlds to teens.

“Any strategy to invite young users into a digital space rife with potential harms should not be driven by a goal to maximize profit,” the senators wrote.

“We call on you to immediately halt Meta’s plan to bring teen users onto Horizon Worlds,” they added.

Meta (formerly Facebook) lost a whopping $13.7 billion in operating losses for Reality Labs for 2022, giving its AR-VR and Metaverse dream a huge jolt.

Within the Reality Labs segment, Q4 revenue was $727 million, down 17 percent due to lower Quest 2 sales.

The app is currently available to users aged 18 and up, and the teen launch could happen as soon as the month.

Nearly a year after Zuckerberg announced his metaverse project, internal documents revealed that the company was grappling with “glitchy technology, uninterested users, and a lack of clarity about what it will take to succeed”.

Dubai Tennis Championships: Djokovic, Medvedev to face off in blockbuster semifinal

0

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic moved into the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships with a hard-fought straight-sets 6-3, 7-5 win against Hubert Hurkacz of Poland, setting up a blockbuster semifinal clash with former world no 1 Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic, competing in his first tournament since lifting his record-extending 10th Australian Open trophy, is now 15-0 in the season, marking his fourth-best winning streak to start a season.

The Pole threw everything in his deep arsenal at Djokovic on the center court. From winning a point after hitting a tweener in the early moments of the match to putting pressure on the Serbian by moving forward, the Pole tried to take the 35-year-old out of his comfort zone.

But Djokovic dominated on serve – he did not face a break point – and chipped away to earn opportunities until he broke through. The top seed converted two of his eight opportunities to advance after one hour and 21 minutes and take a 5-0 lead in the pair’s ATP head-to-head series.

In the first round, the Serb needed a final-set tie-break to claw past Tomas Machac. Now Djokovic is two wins from capturing his sixth title in Dubai and his 94th tour-level crown overall. That would tie him with Ivan Lendl for the third-most titles in the Open Era.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion will be fully focused on the face-off with Medvedev, who ousted eighth seed Borna Coric 6-3, 6-2 in the last match of the day. The third seed won the last 21 points of the match to send a message to his next opponent.

The 27-year-old will be aiming to overcome a 4-9 ATP head-to-head deficit against the Serbian. Medvedev has won back-to-back titles in Rotterdam and Doha and is aiming for a third in Dubai. He is on a 12-match winning streak and has not dropped a set this week.

In his father’s footsteps: Ronaldinho’s son joins Barcelona academy

0

FC Barcelona made an important connection with their past when they confirmed the signing of forward Joao Mendes — the son of legendary Brazilian forward Ronaldinho.

The 18-year-old is expected to initially form a part of Barcelona’s B team, which plays in Spanish football’s third tier, the club informed on Thursday.

Mendes, who had been without a club since leaving Brazil’s Cruzeiro in February last year, impressed Barcelona coaches during a trial earlier this year, reports Xinhua.

The youngster has already made his debut with Barca’s under-19 side in a friendly against Manchester United. He is a player who can play as a central striker or in a deeper role.

He is right-footed but good with his left, and Barca hopes he will be able to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Ronaldinho spent five seasons with Barcelona between 2003-2008 and played a huge part in lifting the club to dominance between 2004-2006 when Barca won back-to-back La Liga titles and the Champions League trophy.

He played 207 times for Barca, scoring 94 goals, with arguably his most memorable performance coming in November 2005 when he scored two goals in a 3-0 win away to Real Madrid, which even saw some Madrid supporters applaud him.

Twitter expands Community Notes to Brazil

0

Micro-blogging platform Twitter on Friday announced that it has expanded its crowd-sourced fact-checking program “Community Notes” to Brazil, and it is the first country in which users will be able to “write and rate notes predominantly in a different primary language.

The company tweeted from its @CommunityNotes account: “Welcome contributors in Brazil! We’re excited to bring Community Notes to one of the largest communities on Twitter, and the first to write and rate notes predominantly in a different primary language.”

“We continue to expand Community Notes globally. Coming soon: Japan and the first group of Spanish-speaking countries. As always, we’re paying close attention to ensure notes are helpful to people from different points of view around the world.”

In January this year, the company expanded its crowd-sourced fact-checking program to four countries– the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Community Notes aims to allow users to add more context to tweets through links and reports. It has been widely used to debunk or correct claims made in popular tweets.

Twitter introduced the social fact-checking program last year in the US under “Birdwatch”, but after Elon Musk started managing Twitter, he renamed “Birdwatch” to “Community Notes”.

In November last year, the company had rolled out an algorithm update that identifies more low-quality Community Notes, which will result in the suspension of contributor status for those who write unhelpful annotations to provide further clarification and context on tweets.

UK security services missed chance to stop 2017 Manchester bombing: Inquiry

0

A “significant” opportunity to prevent the 2017 Manchester Arena attack that killed 22 people was missed by the UK security services, a public inquiry has revealed.

“The reasons for this significant missed opportunity included a failure by a Security Service officer to act swiftly enough,” said inquiry chairman John Saunders.

Although it is impossible to definitively prove that the attack could have been stopped, “there was a realistic possibility that actionable intelligence could have been obtained which might have led to actions preventing the attack”, Xinhua news agency quoted the report as saying.

Former reports by Saunders have found “serious shortcomings” and missed opportunities by security services to prevent the “devastating impact” of the bombing.

The first of three reports published by the public inquiry, which began in September 2020, has leveled criticism at British Transport Police, the arena operators, and their contracted security providers.

An Islamist extremist suicide bomber detonated a homemade bomb as people were leaving the Manchester Arena after a concert by the singer Ariane Grande on May 22, 2017.

It was the worst terror attack in Britain since the London bombings in 2005, in which 52 people died.

Vizag investors’ summit for political gains: TDP

0

Andhra Pradesh’s main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has alleged that the industrial summit being organized in Visakhapatnam by the state government from Friday is not in the interest of the state but only for political gains.

The TDP also alleged that for the past four years, several industrialists have been harassed and now holding the industrial summit is only to mislead the public.

The opposition party claimed that several noted industrialists and businessmen fell victim to the corrupt practices of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. With the destructive policies and the hatred adopted by the Jagan Reddy government, not even a single industrialist has shown interest to set up units in the state for the past four years, the TDP said in a ‘fact sheet’.

Pointing out that the foundation stone has been laid for the Kadapa steel plant twice, the party mentioned that the works of the plant did not move any further. Soon after YSRCP came to power, the Mylavaram Solar Plants were attacked and the Kia management was subjected to blackmail while a conspiracy has been hatched to shut down the Amara Raja batteries.

Scared of the massive corruption, the Jockey unit migrated to the neighboring state from Rapthadu in the Ananthapur district while the Reliance Electronic Industry shifted from Tirupati to another state. The Franklin Templeton, Data Centre, Lulu, and the Titan Electrical Vehicles unit, all left Visakhapatnam, the TDP mentioned in the fact-sheet.

The Mega Seeds unit at Kurnool was totally debilitated while the Singapore-based Ankura Industries, the XLR Academics, and several other industries left Amaravathi. Similarly, Appolo Tyres, a paper pulp unit from Ramayapatnam, Best Battery unit and many such companies deserted the state.

Power holidays have been declared for companies during the YSRCP rule while power charges have been increased heavily. Industrial subsidy amounting to Rs 850 crore has not been paid and the state government has miserably failed to encourage industrialization, the party stated.

It claimed that during its regime three industrial summits have been organized at Visakhapatnam and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed for an investment of Rs 16 lakh crore to create employment for 32 lakh youth.

As the chief minister of the state, Chandrababu Naidu, visited Davos four times and attracted Rs 5 lakh crore in investments and generated employment for 5.13 lakh.

The TDP asked the Chief Minister to desist from cheating the public in the name of the Visakhapatnam summit keeping in view the coming elections and mending the ways to adopt a vengeful attitude towards industrialists. It also asked him release the dues to the companies to win their confidence.

Observing that industrialization plays a key role in the economic progress of the state, the TDP fact sheet mentioned that the businessmen who have been paying the taxes as per norms are not being given subsidies while the godowns of the YSRCP MLA, Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy, have been released the subsidy much against the norms.

The state government has miserably failed to utilize the opportunities for industrial development and harass even those who have already set up their units forcing them to desert the State. The funds for welfare and development can be generated only through industrialisation, the TDP said in the fact sheet and felt that the future generations will not excuse Jagan as he is completely destroying the sector for his political and personal gains.

Meta expanding Instagram’s age verification test to 6 more countries

0

Meta has announced that it is expanding its “age verification test” on Instagram to six more countries, including Europe and Canada.

“Starting today, we’re beginning to expand our age verification test on Instagram to more countries in Europe, Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Australia, and Japan,” the company said in an updated blog post on Thursday.

It further mentioned that it is planning to make the age verification tools available in more countries globally within the next few months.

In June last year, the company initially started testing new options for Instagram users to verify their age, starting with people based in the US.

Later, in October, Meta expanded this test to India and Brazil.

If someone attempts to edit their date of birth on the platform from under the age of 18 to 18 or over, they have to verify their age using one of three options — upload their ID, record a video selfie or ask mutual friends to verify their age.

According to the company, this will make sure “that teens and adults are in the right experience for their age group.”

“In addition to testing the new menu of options to verify people’s ages, we also use artificial intelligence (AI) to understand if someone is a teen or an adult,” it added.

UP Assembly to turn into court today

0

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly will turn into a court on Friday and hold a hearing to decide the period of imprisonment to be awarded to a retired IAS officer (former circle officer, Kanpur Nagar) and five serving policemen for breach of privilege of a member of the house — Salil Vishnoi, the then BJP MLA from Kanpur — in Kanpur Nagar on September 15, 2004.

According to Assembly officials, a dock will be placed in the House and the principal secretary (home) and DGP have been asked to hand over the accused to the House.

This will be after 34 years that the House will turn into a court to hold a hearing in a breach of privilege case.

On March 2, 1989, the Assembly summoned Shankar Dutt Ojha, an officer of the then UP Terai Vikas Janjati Nigam, who was accused of misbehaving with Hardev, member of the House.

It may be recalled that on September 15, 2004, Vishnoi was leading a delegation to submit a memorandum against power cuts in Kanpur to the district magistrate (Kanpur Nagar) when police personnel misbehaved with him.

Assembly speaker Satish Mahana directed the principal secretary (home) and the DGP to produce the police personnel before the assembly after a resolution was adopted in this regard.

Minister for parliamentary affairs Suresh Khanna had moved the resolution in the House recommending that this personnel be produced before the House and their imprisonment be considered.

Those to be produced before the House on Friday include the then CO Babupurva, Kanpur Nagar, Abdul Samad (who switched over to another service and has retired as an IAS officer), then SHO, Kidwai Nagar police station, Rishikant Shukla, then S-I at Kotwali police station Triloki Singh, then constable at Kidwai Nagar police station Chhotey Singh Yadav, then constable at Kakadev police station Vinod Mishra and then constable at Kakadev police station Meharban Singh Yadav.

Vishnoi had given information about the breach of privilege to the House on October 25, 2004.

He enclosed newspaper clippings, photographs, and a medical report, along with his notice, informing the House about the breach of privilege.

On July 28, 2005, then deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly and then chairman of the privilege committee Rajesh Agarwal submitted recommendations to award imprisonment to then CO (Babupurwa) Abdul Samad and reprimand other policemen by summoning them to the House.

The Assembly will now consider the imprisonment of all the six accused and the termination of services of five among them.
