Ram Charan walks barefoot at airport leaving for US, video goes viral

Actor Ram Charan was seen walking barefoot at the airport reportedly leaving for the US ahead of Oscars 2023, to be held in March.

A video shows Ram donning an all-black kurta, pyjama and stole paired with a black mask. Ram is reportedly observing the Ayyappa Deeksha, 41 days of fasting which highlights the significance of abstinence and austerity.

The song ‘Naatu Naatu’ picturized on Ram and Jr NTR from filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’ has earned a Best Original Song Oscar nomination. The track has previously been feted with a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award earlier this year.

For the unversed, while observing the Ayyappa Deeksha, it is compulsory for devotees to observe the fast of 41 days before visiting the Sabarimala temple, in Kerala. Devotees have to wear a garland made of Tulsi or Rudraksha and not shave their beards or cut their hair during this period.

Modi, Singapore PM witness launch of payment interface linkage

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday witnessed the launch of a cross-border linkage between the two nations using their respective fast payment systems namely Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and PayNow.

The facility was launched through token transactions by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das and Managing Director of Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Ravi Menon using the UPI-PayNow linkage.

The UPI-PayNow linkage will enable users of the two fast payment systems in either country to make convenient, safe, instant, and cost-effective cross-border fund transfers using their respective mobile apps.

Funds held in bank accounts or e-wallets can be transferred to or from India using just the UPI-ID mobile number, or virtual payment address (VPA).

To begin with, the State Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Indian Bank, and ICICI Bank will facilitate both inward and outward remittances, while Axis Bank and DBS India will facilitate inward remittances.

For Singapore users, the service will be made available through DBS-Singapore and Liquid Group (a non-bank financial institution). More banks will be included in the linkage over time.

Customers of the above-mentioned participating banks can undertake cross-border remittances to Singapore using the bank’s mobile banking app or internet banking.

Initially, an Indian user can remit up to Rs 60,000 in a day (equivalent to around SGD 1,000). At the time of making the transaction, the system will dynamically calculate and display the amount in both the currencies for convenience of the user.

The UPI-PayNow linkage is the product of extensive collaboration between RBI, MAS, and payment system operators of both countries through NPCI, International Payments Limited (NIPL), and Banking Computer Services Pte Ltd. (BCS), as well as participating banks and non-bank financial institution.

This interlinkage aligns with the G20’s financial inclusion priorities of driving faster, cheaper, and more transparent cross-border payments and will be a significant milestone in the development of infrastructure for cross-border payments between India and Singapore.

While details are under wraps at the moment, sources in the unit say that the makers will be making a big announcement soon.

The Hindi version was launched in July 2021 with SS Rajamouli giving the muhurat shot clap.

While Sreenivas Bellamkonda will reprise Prabhas’ role in the action-drama, the makers have kept the identity of the female lead under wraps and an announcement is expected shortly.

Apple expanding its ‘Communication Safety’ feature to 6 more countries

0

Apple is expanding its “Communication Safety” feature for children to six more countries, the media reported.

In the coming weeks, the feature will be expanded to the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, and Brazil, reports MacRumors.

Communication Safety is an opt-in feature in the Messages application across Apple’s platforms, and is designed to alert children when they receive or send pictures that contain nudity.

According to the tech giant, when the feature is enabled, pictures containing nudity are blurred and the children will be warned and presented with helpful resources.

Moreover, children will also have the option to message someone they trust for help if they want.

Photos are only scanned on-device, keeping messages end-to-end encrypted and avoiding Apple from seeing any of the data.

In 2021, the US was the sole country where the Communication Safety feature was made available. However, a few months later, it was also made available in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Also, it has recently grown further to include France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, the report said.

Dhoni trains next generation of women cricketers at ‘Cricket Clinic – MSD’ workshop

Former India men’s team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni mentored a group of aspiring under-19 women cricketers during a specially curated workshop titled ‘Cricket Clinic – MSD’.

The workshop was organized recently at the Wankhede stadium, where the former wicketkeeper-batter held a training session with 15 players and shared some valuable tips along with his on-field experiences and learnings.

These players were selected through a social media contest hosted by Mastercard, the current title sponsor of all domestic and international matches in India, for young women cricketers.

During the course of the workshop, Dhoni guided the players on managing pressure, making a career in cricket, maintaining fitness, devising the right game plan, and a lot more about other aspects of the game.

Dhoni, the 2007 Men’s T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy-winning captain, also passed on valuable tips to players on batting technique, body movement, and wicketkeeping.

The event concluded with Dhoni posing with the girls and giving them bats autographed by him. The workshop was held to help young women cricketers develop a passion for the game through interesting and insightful experiences, with many more in the pipeline in the coming weeks.

“India has always been a sporting powerhouse and women cricketers today are breaking the glass ceiling with their consistent performance and strong determination. My interactions with several women cricketers during Mastercard Cricket Clinic – MSD have deepened my confidence in the future of women’s cricket in India.”

“I am extremely excited to partner with Mastercard for furthering the women in sports movement and offering them a priceless learning experience,” he said in an official release.

Dhoni, who made his international debut in 2004, played 90 Test matches, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is till 2019, amassing more than 15,000 international runs, including 16 centuries, and more than 800 dismissals as a wicketkeeper.

“Mastercard is deeply invested in encouraging women in sports through priceless experiences in the form of mentorship and training. This cricket clinic with legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni is an initiative that will help aspiring women cricketers realize their dreams and make the country proud both on and off the field,” said Manasi Narasimhan, Vice President & Head of Marketing & Communications, South Asia, Mastercard.

Since his international retirement in August 2020, he has continued to play for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020, 2021, and 2022, with him all set to play in IPL 2023, starting from March 31.

MakeMyTrip experimenting with ChatGPT to boost customer experiences

0

Global travel service provider MakeMyTrip is experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT to see if its integration can make customer experiences and their vacation planning better on the platform, the company has said.

Sanjay Mohan, Group CTO at MakeMyTrip (MMT), told Media that the ChatGPT integration is at a very early stage and the company will decide to use it only if satisfied with the results.

“Our teams are currently testing ChatGPT for helping customers solve their travel queries and suggest add-on services as they plan holidays. We are working on seeing if the new tool can aid our existing AI-powered chatbots,” Mohan said.

With the use of its in-house AI-powered chatbots, customers on MMT already get suggestions and alerts of rail/flight bookings, baggage details, and car/bus/hotel bookings.

According to Mohan, ChatGPT can revolutionize the hospitality sector that has finally come out from the shadow of the three-year-long pandemic.

“Our goal is to make the MMT platform more seamless, while keeping it simple and user-friendly with smooth navigation. ChatGPT can surely help,” he added.

“We want to make MakeMyTrip a one-stop-shop for all the services that a traveler may need,” Mohan told Media.

The online travel aggregator recently reported a growth of 64.4 per cent on gross bookings (year-on-year) that reached $1.75 billion — its highest-ever — for the company’s fiscal third quarter that ended on December 31.

The company earned an adjusted operating profit of $19.7 million in Q3 FY23, as compared to $13.2 million in Q3 FY22, over the revenue of $170.5 million (versus $115 million in 3Q22).

Profit for the period was $0.2 million as compared to a loss of $9 million during the same quarter last year.

Demand for leisure travel and tourism improved on the back of peak seasonality, according to the company.

PM Modi to take command over BJP’s ‘northeast mission’

0

After Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will now be taking charge of the BJP’s ‘northeast mission’.

Since 2014, the saffron party has been engaged in its goal of a Congress-free India and has thrown the party out of power in many northeastern states.

The BJP is now strategizing to win the vote bank of the regional parties in these states.

Legislative Assembly elections were held in Tripura on February 16, while campaigning for the Assembly polls in Meghalaya and Nagaland, to be held on February 27, is underway in full swing.

As per sources, the Prime Minister will be visiting these two states on Friday to campaign in favor of the party candidates.

The BJP is prioritizing strengthening the organization and expanding its mass base by gaining an advantage from Modi’s popularity in the northeastern states.

The saffron party contested more seats than before in Tripura and has snapped its ties with the ruling coalition government in Meghalaya and contested all 60 seats in the state.

In Nagaland, the BJP is contesting 20 out of 60 seats and is trying to win 17-18 seats against the 12 that it won in the 2018 Assembly elections.

IAS vs IPS: K’taka govt slaps notices on warring women officers

0

The Karnataka government on Tuesday served notices on the warring IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri and IPS officer D. Roopa Moudgil over their public spat and issued a gag order to rein them in.

According to sources, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has asked the officers not to go to the media or share anything on social media against each other. Under Secretary, James Tarakan issued the notices and warned them against violating rules.

“In spite of having a forum to file your objections and complaints, you have gone to the media causing severe embarrassment and bringing disrepute to the government,” the notice stated.

Being a government officer, this conduct is not tenable and is against the Service Rules. As per the rules, one can approach the media only regarding serving duties and giving information on government projects. The statements to the media should have been avoided, it further read.

Strict orders have been given to both officers not to go to the media and follow the circular of Service Rules and maintain discipline. The notice had been issued as per the directions of Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai.

Both the officers had lodged complaints and counter complaints against each other with the Chief Secretary of the government Vandita Sharma. The matter was also discussed in the cabinet meeting held on Monday. The ministers had raised their concern about the public fight of officers affecting the image of the government.

Rohini Sinduri’s husband had called Roopa “mentally ill”, while Rohini had asked her to get well soon before the media.

Reacting to this, Roopa posted a screenshot containing deleted messages and alleged that Rohini had sent nude pictures on WhatsApp. She had questioned whether an IAS officer can send her nude pictures.

Both the officers came to confrontational mode after Roopa published Rohini’s private pictures and alleged that she had sent them to IAS officers and also questioned corruption allegations against her.

Janhvi pens note for Sridevi: ‘I still look for you everywhere mumma’

As the coming February 24 will mark the fifth death anniversary of veteran actress Sridevi, her daughter, and actress Janhvi Kapoor penned an emotional note and said that she still looks for her “mummaa”.

Janhvi took to Instagram, where she shared a throwback picture of her talking to her mother. The picture seems to be from an event.

“I still look for you everywhere mumma, still do everything I do hope I’m making you proud. Everywhere I go, and everything I do – it starts and ends with you,” Janhvi captioned the image.

Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai. She died due to accidental drowning in a bathtub. She was in Dubai for attending a family function.

Sridevi’s last big screen outing was in the 2017 film ‘Mom’, for which she also earned a National Award, posthumously.

Janhvi is now gearing up for the release of ‘Bawaal’, which also stars Varun Dhawan. She will also be seen in ‘Mr. & Mrs. Mahi’.

Indian banks improving performance good for intrinsic creditworthiness: Fitch

0

Credit rating agency Fitch Ratings on Tuesday said the pace of asset quality and profitability of Indian banks has exceeded its expectations.

Fitch also said a sustained improvement in the financial performance of Indian banks bodes well for the sector’s intrinsic risk profiles.

The capital buffers are broadly in line with its projections, Fitch said.

The sector’s impaired-loan ratio declined to 4.5 percent in the first nine months of the financial year ending March 2023 (9MFY23), from 6 percent at FY22 which is nearly 60 basis points (bp) of its FY23 estimate, Fitch said.

“Increased write-offs have been a key factor, but higher loan growth, supported by lower slippages and improved recoveries, have also played a role,” Fitch said.

Fitch expects a further improvement by FYE23, although banks still face the risk of asset-quality pressure associated with the unwinding of loan forbearance in FY24.

The sector’s improving provision cover (9MFY23: 75 percent, FY22: 71 percent) also supports banks’ ability to withstand risks, although private banks are significantly better placed than state banks due to their lower impaired loan ratio of 2.1 percent, against state banks’ 5.6 percent.

According to Fitch, sound economic momentum has contributed to a further drop in credit costs to 0.95 percent at 9MFY23, as per its estimate, compared with 1.26 percent in FY22.

Sustained high loan growth, accompanied by rising risk density, could pressure capital for the banks.

Private banks also demonstrate better access to the equity capital market, reflected in state banks’ limited equity raising, preference for hybrid capital instruments and dependence on government recapitalization.

Kangana has her own list of ‘deserving’ winners before ‘nepo mafia’ takes ‘everyone ka haq’

After Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Varun Dhawan were named for major honors at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, actress Kangana Ranaut objected to the same on her social media.

She posted her own list of “deserving” winners and claimed that the ‘nepo mafia snatches everyone’s rights.

Kangana took to Instagram Stories and shared her own list of winners.

She wrote, “Awards season is here before nepo mafia snatches everyone ka haq (right) let me clarify this year’s Best actor – Rishab Shetty (Kantara) Best Actress- Mrunal Thakur (Sita Ramam) Best film – Kantara Best director- SS Rajamouli (RRR) Best supporting actor – Anupam Kher (Kashmir Files) Best supporting actress- Tabu (Bhool Bhulaiya).”

“Yeh log jayein ya nahi awards inhi ke hain (the awards belong to them no matter whether they attend them or not)… filmi awards have no authenticity, after I finish work here, I will make a proper list of all those I feel are deserving… stay tuned … thanks.”

She added: “Life of nepo insects use parents name and contacts, do papa ji chaploosi to get work, agar koi self-made aaye uska career sabotage kardo, if someone anyone, anyhow survives and complains about continues harassment they face, unko bikau mafia PR se jealous or mad bolke dismiss our discredit kardo…”

“Yehi, yehi toh tumhari kartootein hain that I am determined now to destroy you all… one can’t just indulge in the beauty of life when there is so much evil around… Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta says destroying evil is the prime goal of Dharma.”

On Monday, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards at the Film Festival.

Alia was named for the honor for her spectacular performance in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, and Ranbir was feted with the award for playing the lead in ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’.

Varun Dhawan also won the Critics Best Actor award for his performance in the film ‘Bhediya’.

Over 30 nations pledge support for ban on Russia, Belarus competing in international events

0

More than 30 like-minded nations have pledged their ongoing support for a ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes competing in international competitions, including the 2024 Olympic Games.

France — hosts of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, 2021 hosts Japan, the 2026 Winter Olympics hosts Italy, and the United States, which will host the 2028 Summer Olympics, are all among the countries involved.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced last month that it was “exploring a pathway” for athletes from the two nations competing in qualification events for Paris 2024 as neutrals.

But the 30 countries published a joint statement on Monday setting out their concern following recent proposals from the IOC which suggest a pathway is being explored to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to competition.

“We firmly believe that given there has been no change in the situation regarding the Russian aggression in Ukraine, and as an imperative for fairness and solidarity towards the Ukrainian athletes whose facilities have been destroyed and who have had to leave their country, there is no practical reason to move away from the exclusion regime for Russian and Belarusian athletes set by the IOC in their statement of 28 February 2022.”

The IOC called on federations to exclude athletes from Russia and Belarus following the invasion of Ukraine and banned the nations from the Winter Paralympics in March 2022 — though athletes were allowed to compete under a neutral flag.

The UK Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer chaired a summit on February 10 of ministerial and senior representatives from a group of nations, who want the ban to remain.

Following the summit, Frazer in a statement said: “We agree that Putin cannot use sport to legitimise his actions on the world stage. This coalition of nations has supported Ukraine on multiple fronts and we will continue to do so.

“Any plans to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in Paris are not credible. With the prospect of tanks from the United Kingdom, United States and European partners arriving in Ukraine over the coming weeks, and President Zelenskyy expressing serious concerns that a spring offensive by Russia is imminent, we urge the IOC to reconsider its position.”

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, made clear last month his belief that Russian athletes have no place at the Paris Olympics, which begins on July 26 and lasts until August 11, 2024, with the country’s sports minister, Vadym Guttsait, suggesting to boycott the Games if Russian athletes are allowed to compete, even as neutrals.

Beyond partisanship, Indian-American community leaders see political headway in Haley candidacy

0

Beyond partisanship, Indian-American leaders view Nikki Haley’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination as an example of the community making political headway.

“Haley represents the headway the community has been steadily making,” Thomas Abraham, the chairman of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO).

Indian-Americans now have five in the 435-member House of Representatives which is close to the percentage of Indian-American citizens and Kamala Harris as Vice President, he said.

Indian Americans in both parties have aspired for the highest offices, he said.

He also pointed to Rishi Sunak becoming the British Prime Minister as an example of people of Indian origin rising to top leadership positions.

M.R. Rangaswai, the founder of Indiaspora, said: “It is exciting to see another Indian-American step up to run for the highest office in the US.

“Over the past decade, we have witnessed our community going from no representation to now having a Vice President and five members of Congress.”

Indiaspora is an organization that promotes leadership by people of Indian descent worldwide.

“It is gratifying to see our community participate in all facets of public service,” Rangaswami said.

A sign of the growing political involvement of Indian Americans is that in the 2020 general elections over 300 from the community ran for the city, state, and federal offices, he said.

For Rajwant Singh, the Chairman of the Sikh Council on Religion and Education (SCORE), Haley’s candidacy has a special resonance as her turban-wearing father’s visibility in public events at her side shows the rich heritage of Sikhism and Sikhs’ participation in American life.

Haley’s father appeared by her side wearing a bright red turban during the televised Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearings to confirm her as the Permanent Representative to the UN.

He was also a prominent presence when she was sworn in as the Governor of South Carolina.

“You may disagree with her policies and her political views but it is still a remarkable journey,” he said.

“It is important for Americans to see that she belongs to a rich heritage and turban-wearing Sikhs are part of her immediate family,” Rajwant Singh said.

“This widens the horizon for many people including Sikhs to aspire for the highest office in the US.”

Danny Gaekwad, a Republican Party activist and fundraiser who had hosted former President Donald Trump’s meeting with Indian Americans during the 2020 campaign, called Haley “a role model for Indian Americans”.

“I hope she wins, but regardless of the primaries’ outcome, she will have made a mark on American politics as an Indian-American — I emphasize, as an Indian-American proud of her heritage,” he said.

He said that it “is rewarding to see Indian-Americans taking the lead in politics”.

“Even though I am a Republican, I am happy to see Indian-Americans rising in the Democratic Party also like (member of the House of Representatives) Raja Krishnamoorthy.”

Haley is the third Indian-American to seek nomination for President.

The first was Bobby Jindal who ran against Trump for the Republican nomination in 2016 and lost.

He is a former Governor of Louisiana, a southern state like Haley’s South Carolina.

Jindal was elected to the House in 2004, ending a 45-year gap since Dalip Singh Saund the first Indian-American elected to Congress ended his term in 1959.

Kamala Harris launched a campaign for the 2020 Democratic Party nomination against President Joe Biden, but withdrew before the primaries and was picked by Biden for Vice President.

Tennis: Home favourite Monteiro takes out Dominic Thiem in Rio Open

0

Local star Thiago Monteiro reached the second round at a tour-level event for the first time this season when he clawed past former champion Dominic Thiem 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(2) at the Rio Open here.

In a hard-fought clash in the ATP 500 event on Monday night, the home favorite raced out of the blocks, winning the first five games before sealing the set on serve.

After the former World No. 3 Thiem leveled scores by winning the second set 6-3, Monteiro held his nerve in the third set, saving all four break points he faced to advance after two hours and 46 minutes in their first ATP head-to-head meeting.

The 28-year-old Monteiro, currently No. 80 in the ATP Live Rankings, is making his seventh appearance at the clay-court tournament in Brazil, with his best result being a quarterfinal run in 2017. Monteiro will look to reach that stage again when he faces second seed Cameron Norrie or Argentine lucky loser Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round.

In other action on Monday, Nicolas Jarry earned the biggest win of his season when he upset World No. 18 Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1.

The Chilean qualifier, who advanced to the semifinals in Rio de Janeiro in 2018, was strong on return throughout the 74-minute clash, winning 65 percent (15/23) of points on third seed Musetti’s second delivery.

Jarry will next meet Pedro Martinez. The Spaniard snapped a four-match losing streak when he overcame Chilean Cristian Garin 7-6(0), 6-4 in two hours and 27 minutes.

Slovakian Alex Molcan moved past Brazilian wild card Joao Fonseca 6-0, 6-3 and will next face Hugo Dellien after the Bolivian defeated Joao Sousa 6-0, 6-2. Dellien came through qualifying to reach the semi-finals in Cordoba earlier this month.

PVL 2023: Ahmedabad Defenders hand Calicut Heroes first defeat of the season

0

Ahmedabad Defenders stunned the Calicut Heroes to win a five-set thriller 15-13, 13-15, 15-13, 13-15, 15-11 in the second season of the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here on Monday.

For his memorable performance, Danial Moatazedi was named the Player of the Match.

Sandoval showcased his intentions straightaway, making powerful spikes, with Mohan Ukkrapandian setting up his attackers. But Ahmedabad Defenders maintained their cool and relied on LM Manoj and skipper Muthusamy Appavu pairing to keep neck-and-neck with the opposition.

With relentless attacks, Danial and Manoj put the Defenders in control. But the more Jerome Vinith started finding his footing in the match, he started winning the battle of the opposites. Being enabled by Muthusamy, Danial smashed hard from the middle as Ahmedabad took control.

The Heroes brought the service pressure to Ahmedabad to begin their resistance. Calicut did well to keep the in-form Angamuthu quiet. Ahmedabad brought Andrew Kohut to the court and his presence added extra flair, and the Defenders managed to regain control.

Nandhagopal Subramaniyam came late to the party, but he started troubling Calicut. The more aggressive Ahmedabad became with their attacks, the more Sandoval’s two-man block line became crucial. With counter-attacking moves, Jerome and Sandoval pushed the match to the fifth set.

With Sandoval, Jerome, and Ashwin making hard spikes, Calicut tightened the screws on Ahmedabad. But as Muthusamy kept setting up Angamuthu and Manoj, Ahmedabad remained in the contest. With monstrous blocks, Danial closed out the game and Ahmedabad won the match 3-2 to climb to the top of the table.

Arunachal important state from strategic viewpoint: President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday said Arunachal Pradesh is a “very important state” from a strategic and geographical point of view, adding a good infrastructure is essential for the national security and economic development of the state.

Addressing the 37th Statehood Day celebrations of Arunachal Pradesh in Itanagar, the President said the Central government has approved schemes worth over Rs 44,000 crore for the development of the national highways in the state.

Murmu said the country’s easternmost frontier state has become a power surplus one with the commissioning of 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Station.

She expressed confidence that the recently inaugurated all-weather Donyi Polo Airport would improve the connectivity of the state and also give a boost to trade and tourism.

Saying that the development of any society cannot be inclusive without the development of women, she noted that about 47 percent of representatives of Panchayats in Arunachal Pradesh are women.

The President said that women of Arunachal Pradesh are achieving success in every field and expressed confidence that women from across the country would take inspiration from Anshu Jamsenpa who is the first woman to summit Mount Everest twice in five days and Tage Rita Takhe who is promoting women’s participation in enterprise and taking local agro-based products of Arunachal Pradesh to the international market.

The President, who arrived in Itanagar on a two-day visit to the northeastern state, said that in India, the first rays of the Sun fall on Arunachal Pradesh.

The different tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, their cultural heritage, and their unity in diversity, inspire all of us. It can be said that the society of Arunachal Pradesh is the microcosm of India, she pointed out.

Noting that it is enriched with mountains, dense forests, lakes, waterfalls, and flora and fauna, this state is a rich biodiversity zone. Expressing her satisfaction that the Arunachal Pradesh government has adopted the “Pakke Declaration” to meet the challenges of climate change and conserve biodiversity, she said that it is also happy to note that drone technology is being used by the state government for agriculture, horticulture, health services, and environment protection.

She said these are important steps for environmental conservation.

The President said that the entire northeastern region, including Arunachal Pradesh, is playing an important role in India’s development.

Several meetings of the G-20 are also being held in the northeastern states, the President said, adding that she was confident that these meetings would give a boost to the culture and tourism of the region and generate investment opportunities in the region.

On Tuesday, the President will address the special session of the state Assembly. Arunachal Pradesh became a full-fledged state on February 20, 1987.

PVL 2023: Kolkata Thunderbolts register thrilling comeback win over Mumbai Meteors

0

Kolkata Thunderbolts came from behind to register a thrilling 12-15, 15-6, 12-15, 15-11, 15-11 victory over the Mumbai Meteors in the second season of the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here on Monday.

Ashwal Rai was named the Player of the contest for his all-round display as Kolkata quelled a stiff challenge from Mumbai to win the match.

Mumbai’s Hiroshi Centelles showcased aggressive intentions from the service line and helped the Meteors get ahead. But when Rahul started serving the ball for the Thunderbolts, the momentum shifted. Janshad and skipper Ashwal Rai combined to take over Kolkata’s middle line.

Sowing seeds of doubts in Vinit Kumar’s mind with tactical play, Mumbai leveled things. With captain Karthik leading the defense line, and Shameem creating attacking opportunities, Mumbai outwitted the defending champions with ferocious blocks and took charge.

Changing strategies, Kolkata employed a two-man block line of Ashwal and Rahul, and suddenly the door was shut on Mumbai’s attacks. Mumbai remained high on energy but kept making errors. Cody Caldwell’s spikes became a cause of concern for Mumbai.
