Suryakumar Yadav retains No. 1 position in ICC T20 rankings

0

India’s middle order batter Suryakumar Yadav retained his No. 1 position with career-high rating points in the latest ICC T2O rankings released on Wednesday.

Suryakumar has a rating of 910 points after he stroked quickfire innings of 47 during the first match of India’s ongoing series against New Zealand in Ranchi as the exciting right-hander maintained his healthy lead at the top of the T20I rankings for batters.

While the Indian batter played a more composed knock of an unbeaten 26 in the second match of the series, the 32-year-old dropped back to a total of 908 rating points as a result. He will have an opportunity to improve on his record in the third and deciding match of the series in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The current rating points mean Suryakumar remained within striking distance of England batter Dawid Malan in the race to hold the highest rating of all time for Men’s T20I batters.

Malan achieved a rating of 915 points in Cape Town back in 2020, but Suryakumar now holds the second-highest rating of all time for T20I batters following his recent heroics with the willow.

Surya’s teammate Washington Sundar meanwhile galloped to 104th position. On the other hand, New Zealand’s Finn Allen (up eight places to 19th) and Daryl Mitchell (up nine places to 29th) have also gained in the latest rankings update.

In the T20I bowling rankings, India spinners Yuzvendra Chahal jumped six places to 34th and Kuldeep Yadav gained 54 spots to 81st. New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner is in the top 10 while Michael Bracewell has moved from the 58th to the 37th position.

Meta working on new version of its halted smartwatch

0

Meta is reportedly working on a new version of its previously canceled smartwatch.

The information was shared by the tipster Kuba Wojciechowski on Tuesday, who claimed that the new version of the device is “physically very similar to the previously leaked one”.

“There appear to be some sensor array changes on the back, as well as small cosmetic differences, but nothing major. The general detachable form factor is still the same.”

The wearable is likely to use a “custom version of Android (not Wear OS)” and is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s system-on-chip (SoC). However, it is still unclear when the company will release this device.

“While the ‘V1’ has apparently been canceled, Meta still wants to ship the device, so that users can start getting used to the form factor, which is supposed to eventually be used for other Metaverse-related devices,” Wojciechowski said.

“I’m sure this is gonna work great and not like all the other metaverse stuff.”

In June last year, it was reported that Meta had halted its upcoming smartwatch with two built-in cameras, which was likely to be launched this year.

The halted watch was expected to be priced around $400 and was likely to come in three color options — white, black, and gold.

Kriti Sanon: I want to shift gear constantly & not stay in a particular zone

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon, who is gearing up for her upcoming film ‘Shehzada’, likes to walk the fine line between high-content and high-entertainment films, and the films in her pipeline for this year prove the same.

Talking about what audiences can expect from her in 2023, Kriti said: “The audience can probably look forward to far more versions of me. It starts with a very glamorous one which is a family entertainer, followed by probably my biggest film, ‘Adipurush’, which I am extremely proud of. Then there is a lot of action coming in with ‘Ganapath’, something I have done for the first time. You will see me ride a dirt bike, throw kicks and punches and also use a weapon.”

She added: “I am also doing a quirky love story with Shahid Kapoor. We are teaming up on the screen for the first time, so you will see fresh chemistry. Then there is ‘The Crew’, which has three women (Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and me) coming together, having a lot of fun and creating something amazing.”

She also spoke about how she picks up various characters and roles.

The actress further mentioned: “Till ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’, I was getting small-town roles one after the other. So, I did the war epic drama ‘Panipat’. Then I took up a strong and meaty role in ‘Mimi’ and moved on to the next level. I want to shift the gear constantly and not stay in one particular zone. You have to move on and think about what’s next, otherwise, you will stagnate.”

The actress, who is at the top of her game, hopes to surprise audiences with some exciting projects that showcase different sides of her persona and talent in 2023 with ‘Shehzada’, ‘Adipurush’, and ‘Ganapath’.

India to set up data embassies for digital continuity with world: FM

0

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday announced that the government will set up Data Embassies in the country to facilitate seamless digital transfers and continuity for other nations.

Data embassies create a new approach to securing data by leveraging diplomatic agreements bolstered by cloud technology solutions.

A data embassy is a solution implemented by nation-states to ensure a country’s digital continuity with particular respect to critical databases.

“We will facilitate the setting up of Data Embassies for countries looking for digital continuity solutions,” Sitharaman said during her Union Budget speech in Parliament.

Small countries around the world are turning to the concept of “data embassies” because they are in need of sovereign and resilient infrastructure.

Estonia, one of the world’s most mature countries in digital administration, authorized a data embassy in 2015. Luxembourg, Monaco, and some other nations have adopted the Data Embassy model.

According to a Google Cloud blog post, there are several components that comprise a data embassy.

“A data embassy must have a secure, resilient data infrastructure that can protect a nation’s data from cyber and physical threats. They should have a robust mechanism to ensure efficient data back-up and fail-over, as well,” it said.

Union Budget: ‘Government must allocate a dedicated fund to encourage women to participate in sport’

0

India’s Union Budget for 2023-24 must lay emphasis on strengthening the country’s sports infrastructure in non-metro cities, improving girl’s participation in sport, and investing in young sportspersons at the grassroots level, said sports scholar & team owner of Gurgaon Incredibles at LastManStands, Aman Dhall in his pre-budget expectation from the government.

According to him, the government must allocate big funds and invest in sports development in tier-3 and 4 cities, where robust infrastructure can help the country to groom talent for it to become a global sporting powerhouse.

“Last year, Khelo India, the government’s flagship program, emerged as the biggest beneficiary with a budgetary allocation of Rs 974 crore. The upcoming budget must focus on schemes like the Fit India Programme to foster a sporting culture in India and encourage people to make fitness their active lifestyle,” said the former alumni advisory board member of the sporting institution Loughborough University (UK).

He further added that the government must allocate a dedicated fund to encourage women to participate in sports.

“We have such amazing sports stories of our women excelling in world events. In the last three Olympics, nearly half of our medals (7 out of 15) have been won by women. If we can place an extra emphasis, and allocate dedicated funds to further their participation, we will not only strengthen our sporting future but will also make our society more equal and balanced.”

Canada’s real GDP grew 3.8% in 2022

0

Canada’s real gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 3.8 percent in 2022, the national statistical agency announced.

Statistics Canada on Tuesday said that it indicated a 0.4 percent increase in real industry GDP in the fourth quarter of 2022 and a 0.1 percent increase in December, reports Xinhua news agency.

In December, increases in the retail, utilities, and public sectors were offset by decreases in the wholesale, finance, insurance, mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction sectors, it said.

Owing to its preliminary nature, these estimates will be updated on February 28 with the release of the official GDP data for December and the fourth quarter of 2022, Statistics Canada added.

Canada’s GDP edged up 0.1 percent in November, following the same growth in October.

Growth in services-producing industries was partially offset by a decline in goods-producing industries, Statistics Canada said, explaining that the removal of travel restrictions and rising interest rates continued to affect certain industries.

On October 1, 2022, all Covid-19 border restrictions, including vaccination, mandatory use of the ArriveCAN app as well as any testing and quarantine requirements, were removed for all travellers entering Canada by land, air, or sea.

This removal of restrictions continued to support gains in the transportation and warehousing sector in November.

Meanwhile, interest rate hikes by the Bank of Canada over the course of 2022 continued to have an effect on the activity at offices of real estate agents and brokers, residential building construction, and legal services which have been trending downward since the spring, Statistics Canada said.

‘He’d punch my private parts’: Flora Saini recalls her abusive relationship

Actress Flora Saini, who has worked in films such as ‘Stree’, ‘Prema Kosam’ and ‘Narasimha Naidu’ among many others, recalled her abusive relationship with a ‘famous producer’ and said that he used to punch her “private parts” and “box” her face.

The actress revealed that her ex-boyfriend-producer Gaurang Doshi reportedly abused her physically in a 14-month-long relationship.

Flora took to Instagram and shared a video, where she talked about her personal life.

Talking about her relationship from when she was 20, Flora said: “I was in love, he was a famous producer.”

“But soon things changed. He turned abusive, he’d box my face and punch my private parts. He took my phone and forced me to quit work. For 14 months, he didn’t let me talk to anyone. Until one evening, he punched me in the stomach, and I ran away,” she added.

Flora further stated that she went back to live with her parents, and it took time to recover from the trauma she went through.

“Slowly, I got back to the thing I liked the most — acting. It took time but I’m happy today, I’ve even found love,” Flora added.

Flora captioned the clip: “Life can only be lived forward and some of the biggest blessings of your life come after your biggest lessons… when you least expect it… so never stop believing in the magic of life and let the universe surprise you… I STILL BELIEVE IN FAIRY TALES.”
