Telangana attracted Rs 21,000 cr investment during Davos meet

0

Telangana attracted investments worth Rs 21,000 crore during the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting at Davos where the state delegation was headed by the state minister for information technology and industries, K.T. Rama Rao.

This was the fifth visit of Minister KTR to Davos, and like in the past his efforts to bring investments to the state have yielded fruitful results, claimed the government.

Presenting the growth story of Telangana and pitching for investments, KTR has participated in meetings with leaders of top global organizations, attended round tables and spoken at panel discussions, and shared his thoughts on a wide array of subjects in the four-day trip. In addition to this, the minister also interacted with the Indian diaspora in Zurich and highlighted the progress of Telangana to the NRIs in Switzerland.

At a juncture where the global economy is on the brink of recession, Telangana managed to bag some big-ticket investments. The Telangana delegation was successful in showcasing the state as a global investment destination and gateway to India.

The Telangana pavilion grabbed the attention of many top companies with representatives of several global organizations visiting the stall.

Telangana pavilion presented information regarding Telangana’s geography, investments it attracted in the last eight years, and initiatives of IT and Industry departments such as T-Hub and T-Works. Videos of various government programs, policies, and projects like Kaleshwaram played at the pavilion were a special attraction.

Sharing his experience of the visit, Minister KTR observed that the WEF is the right platform to introduce Telangana, a progressive state which has exceptional industrial policies and infrastructure, and said that Telangana is strengthening its ties with companies on the WEF platform.

“All the meetings at the WEF were highly productive and we were able to attract Rs 21,000 crore at the meet,” said KTR.

He said that bringing huge investments to the state and thereby creating employment is the driving force. “I believe that all the new investments and meetings regarding prospective investments will yield favorable outcomes,” added KTR.

The big draw of this edition of Davos trip was the WEF coming forward to establish its first Indian center in Hyderabad. This thematic center will focus on life sciences and health care. This announcement further consolidates the city’s position as the hub for life sciences and pharmaceuticals.

Microsoft announced to set up of three more data centers in Hyderabad with an investment of Rs 16,000 crore. Bharti Airtel Group said it would set up a large Hyperscale Data Centre in Hyderabad with Rs 2,000 crore.

Eurofins, a global leader in the pharma sector, announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art laboratory campus in Genome Valley with an outlay of Rs 1,000 crore. Other global companies such as PepsiCo, P&G, Allox, Apollo Tyres Ltd, WebPT, and Inspire Brands came forward with investments worth Rs 2,000 crore.

Rhea shares unseen pics on Sushant’s birthday

Actress Rhea Chakraborty remembered Sushant Singh Rajput on his birth anniversary on Saturday by sharing two photographs on her Instagram handle in which she could be seen in the company of the late actor.

The unseen pictures show Sushant smiling along with Rhea in the frame. Rhea and Sushant had first met at a production house in 2013 but became friends in 2019 through a set of common friends.

It was reported that the two were set to tie the knot by the end of 2020, but things changed radically after Sushant was found hanging at his home in Mumbai on June 14, 2020.

The actor’s demise received widespread coverage, with many pointing fingers at Rhea for Sushant’s death with allegations of abetment to suicide directed at her.

After Sushant’s death, a team of three doctors conducted an autopsy and submitted their provisional post-mortem report at the Bandra police station. On June 15, 2020, the police said that “the provisional cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging”.

Ruling BJP all set to emulate Gujarat model of bucking anti-incumbency

With the Assembly elections in Karnataka drawing nearer, the ruling BJP is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations.

The party, aiming to retain power at any cost, has launched campaigning meticulously on the ground as well as virtual platforms on lines of Gujarat.

The Gujarat model of reaching out to the common voter physically as well as on digital platforms yielded good results in the state and is now being implemented in Karnataka.

Political analysts explained that the ruling BJP has already started aggressive campaigning in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the state twice, and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has stated that Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Shivamogga to inaugurate the airport in February.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has visited Mandya, considered the bastion of JD-S, and sounded poll bugle. The party insiders say that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also start campaigning in the state soon.

BJP MP Saadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur had paid a visit to slain Bajrang Dal activist Harsha’s house and addressing a public rally, she issued a controversial statement while talking about the protection of Hindu girls and women.

Apart from roping in national mass leaders, the party is making meticulous planning toward reaching out to every voter. Kota Srinivas Poojari, the minister for Social Welfare has said that the BJP has formed 51,872 booth committees, while 13,21,792 ‘Page Pramukhs’ are being appointed.

“We have created 50,260 WhatsApp groups and the party flags have been hoisted on 32.83 lakh houses in the state. The drive was conducted with the 15,93,848 party workers,” Poojari elaborated.

BJP State General Secretary Mahesh Tenginakayi has said that Home Minister Amit Shah has laid out plans at the booth level to ensure the party’s victory. “We have a mission to win 150 seats. We will achieve it. Along with establishing contacts by reaching to the doorsteps, plans are being made to touch the hearts of people,” he asserted.

N.R. Ramesh, BJP Bengaluru South President, explained that the party is different from other national and regional parties. “Our organization is different,” he said.

“There are 58,000 booths in Karnataka and 8,600 booths in Bengaluru. The party has a 12-member team for every booth. These members will have a WhatsApp group of voters. The policies and programs of Prime Minister Modi, achievements of former Chief Minister Yediyurappa, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai would be communicated to them,” he said.

All booths in Bengaluru, including 550 booths where Muslims are in majority, are being covered. In the entire state, in 58,000 booths, the booth committees are made for 54,000 booths, Ramesh added.

Apart from this, ‘Page Pramukhs’ are appointed on the basis of the voters’ lists. BJP voters will be identified and page pramukhs are asked to contact eight to 12 houses about 40 to 50 times. They will communicate to voters about the government’s programs and help them to get benefits of Union and state governments’ programs, he said.

The ‘Page Pramukh’ drive was conducted from January 2 to January 12.

When asked about the anti-incumbency factor, Ramesh Said that people very well know about “how false and fake cases are lodged on BJP workers, how internal security was challenged, how cases were withdrawn on terror suspects and how Tipu Jayanthi was trusted on Muslim community”.

Under Kisan Samman Yojna, which was launched in 2016, only 17 beneficiaries were added when the Congress and JD-S coalition government was in power. After Yediyurappa took over, the number of beneficiaries rose to 10,000. Now, the 44 lakh farmers in the state are beneficiaries under the scheme, he claimed.

“People have observed the statements by Congress leaders regarding the cooker bomb blast case in Mangaluru and Rahul Gandhi’s statements about demonetization. There is no question of anti-incumbency,” Ramesh asserted.

Rashmika to join ‘The boys’ for ‘Pushpa: The Rule’ shoot next month

Actress Rashmika Mandanna has given an update on the sequel of the 2021 blockbuster ‘Pushpa: The Rise’.

The actress shared that while ‘The Boys’ (insert the soundtrack of ‘Bones’ as per the Insta reel ritual) Allu Arjun and other actors have started the shoot of the film, she will join the shoot next month.

She said, “The boys have started shooting, and I’ll be joining the shoot next month, so I’m really excited! And, the thing that I’m hearing from the second half is (made the explosion sound). Really mind blown about how (director) Sukumar sir is coming up with these things because if you watch the first half, you just feel like that is the story itself.”

She further mentioned while talking on FC Front Row, “But the second part is something much more than the first part and you’re like “wow, now that’s something fabulous!”

“At the same time, I think all of us actors from Pushpa 1 have seen our work in the first half, and now we’re much clearer on what kind of a world we’re living in. So I think all our performances are going to change. I think the performances are going to get more intense in the second half. And yeah guys, it’s going to be amazing.”

Meanwhile, her ‘Mission Majnu’ co-actor Sidharth Malhotra broke the silence on the similarities being drawn between ‘Mission Majnu’ and the 2018 film ‘Raazi’.

He said, “I think it’s never a bad thing when people are trying to use a reference point for a film, especially comparing it to a good film. Yes, the elements on the outer periphery of seeing a trailer might look similar, it is in the same decade, similar elements.”

“But, I think the experience is completely different. It’s only fair to speak to people once they see the film, the arcs…as I said, we’re only trying to give the elements which you need to decide to click, in today’s day and age, or to get engaged.”

BJP all set for 9-day Vijaya Sankalp Abhiyan in K’taka; Nadda to inaugurate

Ahead of the assembly polls, the ruling BJP is gearing up for the nine-day Vijaya Sankalp Abhiyan in Karnataka which will be inaugurated by BJP President J.P. Nadda on Saturday in Sidhagi of Vijayapura in the state.

Sindhagi is decked up for the mega event and BJP wants to kick-start campaigning in the north Karnataka region, considered as a strong BJP hold. More than one lakh people are expected to attend the programme.

The Vijay Sankalp Abhiyan will be carried out from January 21 to January 29. The state leaders will also inaugurate the abhiyan at various locations across the state.

Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will take part in the inauguration program at Sindhagi. Karnataka BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel will kick off the campaign in Bengaluru, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Tumakuru, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mine and Coal Pralhad Joshi in Davanagere, BJP Karnataka In-Change Arun Singh in Chikkaballapur.

The party plans to establish contact with more than 1 crore beneficiaries of various programs of the ruling BJP government.

Three crore stickers will be distributed to be pasted on vehicles. The stickers will have info-graphics of BJP’s signature programs such as ‘Kisan Samman’, and ‘Mudra’. The party has also planned a missed call campaign and registered more than 1 crore members.

‘Pathaan’ director calls Deepika a bonafide action star

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who plays a spy in the upcoming spy-thriller film ‘Pathaan’, has been called a bonafide action star by the film’s director Siddharth Anand. As one can see from the trailer and the assets that have been released so far, the actress can be seen pulling off the action and sultry bit with equal ease.

Talking about his liking for femme fatale in films, Siddharth said, “There is nothing more cool or sexy than a woman wielding a powerful weapon on screen. As a film buff, I have always loved women doing sick action sequences and so, when we got Deepika Padukone in ‘Pathaan’, we wanted to present her in her most badass self – a gorgeous, gun-toting, femme fatale spy that people have never seen before!”

Recollecting a sequence from the film, the director added, “In one of the action sequences of ‘Pathaan’, Deepika wields the Gatling gun and you have to see the sequence to believe how legit she is as a bonafide action superstar! She steals the show in this scene and I’m sure people will cheer the loudest for her every time she does the action in ‘Pathaan’.”

‘Pathaan’, which sees Shah Rukh Khan returning to the silver screen after four years, also stars John Abraham. The film is set to release on January 25 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

WhatsApp rolling out voice status updates on iOS beta

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new ‘voice status updates’ feature on iOS beta, which will allow users to share voice notes via status updates.

Selected beta testers can now share voice notes as status updates by accessing the new feature within the text status section, reports WABetaInfo.

The maximum recording time for a voice note is 30 seconds, and users also have the option to forward voice notes from their chats to status.

The new feature is expected to be widely rolled out to more users over the coming weeks, the report said.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the messaging platform was rolling out the same feature on the Android beta.

Hockey World Cup: India pull out injured Hardik Singh ahead of crucial crossover match

0

India suffered a huge blow ahead of Sunday’s crucial crossover match against New Zealand in the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 when key midfielder Hardik Singh was ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury.

Hardik Singh was the livewire in the midfield in India’s first two matches in Pool D and sustained a hamstring injury during the clash with England on January 15. Having rested the youngster for the match against Wales, and subsequent assessment, Hardik has now been ruled out of the World Cup, Hockey India confirmed on Saturday.

Hockey India also informed us that Hardik will be replaced by alternate player Raj Kumar Pal.

“Overnight we had to make the difficult decision of replacing Hardik Singh in the Indian Team for Sunday’s match vs New Zealand and the subsequent World Cup matches,” chief coach Graham Reid said while talking about the decision made by the team management.

“While the injury was not as severe as the initial incident suggested, time was not on our side, and after our ongoing thorough rehabilitation process and functional and on-field assessment today, it has been decided that we will replace Hardik with Raj Kumar Pal. While it is extremely disappointing for Hardik personally of course, given how well he played in our first two matches, we are excited at the prospects of Raj Kumar joining the group for the remaining World Cup matches,” Reid was quoted as saying in the Hockey India release on Saturday.

Having finished second in Pool D, India will need to win against New Zealand in the crossover match on Sunday to reach the quarterfinals.

Google’s R&D division ‘Area 120’ hit significantly in layoffs

0

As Google’s parent company Alphabet laid off 12,000 employees, its in-house research and development (R&D) division called Area 120 has also been significantly hit.

Area 120 has launched several products, like gaming platform GameSnacks, an AirTable rival called Tables, an AI-powered conversational ads platform AdLingo, video platforms Tangi and Shoploop, and more. The majority of the Area 120 team has been “winded down”, reports TechCrunch.

“Employees in the US who were affected have been notified [of layoffs at Area 120, but in other countries, this process will take longer, and is subject to local laws and practices,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report.

“Our managing partner of Area 120 remains at the company, a spokesperson added. According to earlier reports, the in-house R&D division had around 100 employees.

Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Friday said that he is “deeply sorry” for reducing the workforce by approximately 12,000 roles, and takes “full responsibility for the decisions that led us here”.

In an email to employees, Pichai said the company has already sent a separate email to employees in the US who are affected by the layoffs.

“In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices,” he added.

The roles the company is eliminating cut across Alphabet, product areas, functions, levels, and regions.

Bundesliga: Leipzig hold front runners Bayern Munich to 1-1 draw

0

Former European champions Bayern Munich shared the spoils with resilient Leipzig in a match that could be considered the curtain raiser of the second half of the Bundesliga season.

Marcel Halstenberg’s goal in the second half cancelled out Bayern striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s first-half opener as the two teams came out tied 1-1 on Friday night.

The Bavarians took the reins from the kick-off and almost opened the scoring with eight minutes played when Serge Gnabry rattled the woodwork with a shot from the edge of the box.

Bayern enjoyed more possession of the ball, but Leipzig looked quick and dangerous on counterattacks as the match progressed. Emil Forsberg forced Yann Sommer into action in the 22nd minute, but his effort was denied comfortably by Bayern’s new goalie, reports Xinhua.

Leipzig increased the pressure but lacked accuracy in the final third after Dani Olmo pulled wide from a promising position five minutes later.

The visitors thought they had opened the scoring at the other end, but Leon Goretzka’s header was ruled offside following a VAR review at the half-hour mark.

Andre Silva had a lot of space ahead but couldn’t go through as Dayot Upamecano dispossessed Silva inside the box in the last nick of time in the 35th minute.

Clinical Bayern eventually broke the deadlock with 37 minutes played as Gnabry whipped a pinpoint cross allowing Choupo-Moting to slot home his seventh goal of the season.

Leipzig started powerfully into the second half and got rewarded in the 52nd minute when Bayern failed to clear the ball before Halstenberg poked home a cross from very close range to restore parity.

The Red Bulls pressed frenetically for the decider, but Bayern’s defense stood firm to secure a point on the road.

“I saw some good things but after two months there is of course some room for improvement. We didn’t play out our opportunity and were sloppy in the final third. The goal against us was completely unnecessary but we still secured a vital point,” said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“We didn’t play well in the first half. We made too many mistakes, but it was a typical game after a two-month break. We improved after the break and snatched a draw on home soil,” commented Leipzig coach Marco Rose.
