Crypto lending platform Genesis files for bankruptcy

0

Popular cryptocurrency broker Genesis has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following the meltdown of the FTX exchange, media reports said.

According to bankruptcy documents, the company listed over 1,00,000 creditors in a “mega” bankruptcy filing, with aggregate liabilities ranging from $1.2 billion to $11 billion, reports CNBC.

Genesis is part of the US-based venture capital firm Digital Currency Group (DCG), which also owns cryptocurrency asset manager Greyscale and crypto-focused news outlet CoinDesk.

“We look forward to advancing our dialogue with DCG and our creditors’ advisors as we seek to implement a path to maximize value and provide the best opportunity for our business to emerge well-positioned for the future,” Genesis interim CEO Derar Islim was quoted as saying.

Genesis filed for bankruptcy protection just days after the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Genesis and its one-time partner, Gemini, for offering and selling securities without registering, according to the report.

The crypto platform listed a $765.9 million loan payable from Gemini in the bankruptcy filing.

Another significant claim included a $78 million loan payable from Donut, a high-yield, decentralized platform, and a VanEck fund, with a $53.1 million loan payable, the report said.

Cameron Winklevoss, the co-founder of Gemini, first responded to the news on Twitter, writing that Silbert and DCG “continue to refuse to offer creditors a fair deal”.

“We have been preparing to take direct legal action against Barry, DCG, and others. Sunlight is the best disinfectant,” he added.

A series of bad bets made last year crippled Genesis, leading it to halt withdrawals on November 16 after providing loans to crypto hedge funds and over-the-counter firms.

The US-based firm made crypto loans to Three Arrows Capital (3AC) and Alameda Research, a hedge fund started by Sam Bankman-Fried and closely related to his FTX exchange, the report said.

‘Deeply sorry’: Sundar Pichai after announcing 12K job cuts at Alphabet

0

Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Friday said that he is “deeply sorry” for reducing the workforce by approximately 12,000 roles, and takes “full responsibility for the decisions that led us here”.

In an email to employees, Pichai said the company has already sent a separate email to employees in the US who are affected by the layoffs.

“In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices,” he added.

The roles the company is eliminating cut across Alphabet, product areas, functions, levels, and regions.

In the US, Google will pay employees during the full notification period (minimum 60 days) and also offer a severance package starting at 16 weeks’ salary, plus two weeks for every additional year at Google, and accelerate at least 16 weeks of GSU (Google stock) vesting.

“While this transition won’t be easy, we’re going to support employees as they look for their next opportunity,” said Pichai.

Google will pay 2022 bonuses and remaining vacation time to those impacted.

“We’ll be offering 6 months of healthcare, job placement services, and immigration support for those affected. Outside the US, we’ll support employees in line with local practices,” said Pichai.

The Google CEO said that these are important moments to “sharpen our focus, re-engineer our cost base, and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities”.

The layoffs at Google’s parent company were expected amid the deepening funding winter that has hit companies of all sizes in the global slowdown and recession fears.

Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said earlier this week that the company will be “making changes that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce by 10,000 jobs through the end of FY23 Q3 (third quarter)”.

More than 1,600 tech employees are being laid off per day on average in 2023 globally, including in India, and the sacking episodes have gained speed amid the global economic meltdown and recession fears.

Amazon announced laying off 18,000 employees globally, including nearly 1,000 in India.

Govt making efforts to develop Odisha as a global hotspot of tourists: CM

0

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday said his government is making concerted efforts to develop Odisha as a global hotspot of tourists.

The state government is making concerted efforts to develop Odisha as a global hotspot of tourists, provide livelihoods and employment opportunities, and make the state attractive for investors, Patnaik said while inaugurating the International Craft Summit in Jajpur through a virtual platform.

“We are developing mechanisms for holistic development of our tourism, handloom, and handicrafts sector. We have put in place various policies such as state tourism policy, handicraft policy, apparel, and technical textiles policy,” the Chief Minister said.

He further said the state government is also opening art galleries at different places, organizing heritage walks, and taking many other initiatives to promote tourism and culture.

Stating that it is a historic occasion for Odisha, Patnaik said Jajpur was the ancient capital of Odisha. With its existing assets of religious tourism, urban tourism, and Buddhist tourism, it has the potential to be a major tourist hub. The cultural heritage of Jajpur is reflected in its vibrant art forms, he added.

Speaking on the cultural splendor of the state, the Chief Minister said Odisha is an illustrious land of immaculate art and crafts. Its civilizational journey is a journey of artistic culture.

“The artistic skills of our craftsmen are reflected in numerous ways. You can find it in our temples, our sculptures, Buddhist shrines, hand-woven clothes, patta paintings, wood works, metal works…everywhere. Every village and every lane of Odisha exhibits some form of art or craft. The soul of Odisha lives in our art, craft, music, and culture,” he stated.

International delegates from 15 countries have arrived in Jajpur to engage with local artisans and other stakeholders. Four UN agencies and five UNESCO creative cities have partnered with the Jajpur district to realize this ambitious and forward-looking event on behalf of the state government.

UIDAI deliberates on focus areas like resident centricity, ‘Ease of Living’

0

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Friday deliberated on and decided to work on core areas to provide continued support to people in their daily lives, further enhance data security, and play a stellar role in furthering the cause of good governance.

The five core areas are resident-centricity, expanding the usage of Aadhaar, security, and privacy, continuous technology upgradation, and collaboration with global economies and support them in their aspiration to achieve SDG 16.9 (provide legal identity for all).

These five focus areas were deliberated in a daylong brainstorming session at Gujarat’s Kevadia. UIDAI CEO Saurabh Garg maintained that there is and will always be a continuous focus on how to support residents in improving their ease of living, and better their experience in availing services.

Officials said that the Authority is constantly exploring and adopting ways to expand the use of Aadhaar for both ease of living as well as ease of doing business. Its sandbox environment will allow startups, professionals, and companies to explore and test innovation applications for increasing the use of Aadhaar. From expanding e-KYC adoption to popularising offline verification for better service delivery to residents, UIDAI will strive to expand the use of Aadhaar in multiple ways.

Aadhaar has emerged as a tool for good governance, empowerment, and service delivery. Since the first Aadhaar number was generated in 2010, UIDAI has issued over 1.35 billion Aadhaars and has carried out more than 88 billion authentication transactions so far, indicative of how it is touching residents’ lives. UIDAI has also executed over 710 million Aadhaar updations following requests from residents since 2010.

The UIDAI will be at the forefront of technology up-gradation to further enhance data security and privacy, seamless service delivery, and proactively address new-age cyber security risks, officials said.

It also urged residents who have got their Aadhaar issued 10 years back and have never updated after that in these years, to get their documents updated. Residents can update their Aadhaars by uploading supportive documents, (proof of identity and proof of address) either online through the myAadhaar portal or offline by visiting the nearest Aadhaar center.

La Liga: Memphis trains with Atletico Madrid ahead of confirmation of Barca move

0

Dutch international striker Memphis Depay on Thursday trained with Atletico Madrid ahead of the confirmation of his signing from FC Barcelona.

Depay will help cover for Joao Felix, who left to join Chelsea on loan a week ago.

The 28-year-old Dutch striker leaves Barcelona after scoring 14 goals in 42 appearances since joining on a free transfer from Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2021 at the petition of former coach Ronald Koeman.

The signing of Robert Lewandowski has seen Memphis drop down the pecking order at Camp Nou and that, along with an injury earlier in the season, means he has started just two league matches this campaign, reports news agency Xinhua.

Atletico is thought to have paid Barca around three million euros to buy Depay, which represents a decent return for Barca, given that they signed him for nothing. The striker’s departure will also lower Barca’s hefty wage bill, making it easier to meet financial fair play requirements in the future.

Memphis will be available to make his debut when Atletico entertains Valladolid this weekend.

International Boxing Association (IBA) has opened the registration of athletes for the upcoming IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, set to take place from March 15 to 26 in New Delhi.

The competitions will be held in 12 weight classes and each country can register one athlete per category. For the first time in a while, the seeding will be applied based on the official IBA Rankings.

Apple, Samsung making OLED screens for iPad Pro, MacBook Pro

0

Apple and Samsung Display have reportedly started working together on OLED panel development for the upcoming iPad Pro and MacBook Pro devices, which are expected to be released next year or later.

The upcoming iPad Pro with an OLED screen is likely to release as soon as next year and might be available in 11.1-inch and 13-inch variants report SamMobile.

The first MacBook, most likely MacBook Air, with an OLED screen, is expected to be launched this year and might have a 13-inch display.

However, the MacBook Pro with an OLED screen is likely to be released in 2026 and is expected to come in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes, similar to the current-generation high-end laptops.

Existing MacBook Pro uses a Mini-LED display, which offers higher all-screen brightness than OLED panels, but also suffers from blooming in dark screens, the report said.

Meanwhile, last month, it was reported that Samsung was prioritizing the development of special two-stack tandem OLED panels that will be used in certain iPad models in 2024.

Two-stack tandem OLED panels include two layers of pixels instead of one and this hybrid technology is likely to offer higher brightness and longer life than existing OLED panels which are used in smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, TVs, and laptops.

Google removes Smart Reply from Voice app on Android, iOS

0

Google has removed Smart Reply suggestions that appeared at the bottom of messages from the Voice app on Android and iOS.

The company introduced the feature last year in February. According to 9to5Google, this simple feature examined the most recently received message and suggested up to three contextual replies.

These pills would appear above the “Type a message” field with the Smart Reply immediately sending on tap.

Google Voice’s release notes on the Play Store and App Store confirm the removal: “Smart responses are no longer supported”, said the report.

Meanwhile, Google released the standalone “Switch Access” app on the Play Store, which was originally part of the Android Accessibility Suite.

The app allows users to interact with their Android device using one or more switches or a keyboard instead of the touchscreen.

“Control your phone or tablet using switches or the front camera. You can use switches to select items, scroll, enter text, and more. Switch Access can be helpful if you can’t interact directly with your device,” according to the Switch Access about page.

The app scans the items on users’ screens and highlights each item until they make a selection.

If needed we will take legal action against WFI, says protesting wrestler Bajrang Punia

0

Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Bajrang Punia on Friday addressed the media in a press conference held by protesting wrestlers here at Jantar Mantar and said that if needed, they “will take the legal route” to get their demands fulfilled.

Punia said, they “have only one demand which is to dissolve the federation” adding that the protesting wrestlers will return to their homes if their demands are fulfilled by the government.

“Still, many players are scared that there are many tournaments ahead, and what will happen to them. So, we have canceled them. Hopefully, this information will reach to the young athletes through media,” Punia added.

He further said like the WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan told that he will hang himself if the allegations against him are to be proven then “we hope that day will come soon.”

Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat alleged that the WFI President has been sexually harassing female wrestlers.

Punia also brushed aside rumors of the involvement of political parties and businessmen in the protest, saying, “Any person can give it the name of casteism or point at political involvement, anyone can say anything, we are just the athletes here. You can go through our phone records or have a CID investigation, I have made it clear that there is no involvement of any politicians in the protest.”

On Friday, the protesting wrestlers wrote to PT Usha, president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), regarding the “sexual harassment” complaints against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Saran Singh.

YouTube Music launching ‘Listening Room’ to get users’ feedback

0

Google-owned music streaming platform YouTube Music will be launching a “Listening Room” programme on Discord (an online voice, video, and text communication platform) in which the company’s product team will collaborate with a group of users to get regular feedback on specific features.

Under the program, users will get a free year of YouTube Music Premium, reports 9to5Google.

The requirements to be selected for the programme include — user needs to be a music lover, use YouTube Music as their primary music streaming service for a year, give regular feedback through conversations and polls on Discord, and agree to NOT share any information, i.e., taking screenshots, pictures, or recordings of conversations or early features with anyone outside of the Discord group.

Meanwhile, YouTube Music might soon allow users the ability to create a custom radio.

Currently, it already lets users customize their current queue by familiarity, genre, mood, energy level, and more directly from the Now Playing screen.

According to 9to5Google, some YouTube Music users are seeing “Create a radio” in the main feed as a part of a limited rollout.

An experience similar to YouTube Music’s initial setup process will appear next to allow users to “tune your music”.

Netflix to soon roll out paid password sharing

0

Streaming giant Netflix has announced that it will roll out its paid password sharing “more broadly” “later in” the first quarter (Q1) of this year.

“While our terms of use limit the use of Netflix to a household, we recognize this is a change for members who share their account more broadly,” the company said in its earnings reports on Thursday.

“As we roll out paid sharing, members in many countries will also have the option to pay extra if they want to share Netflix with people they don’t live with,” it added.

After launching the paid password sharing, the streaming giant expects some “cancel reaction in each market” but it will eventually result in “improved overall revenue.”

The company also announced that Reed Hastings has stepped down as Netflix’s co-CEO and will now serve as an executive chairman, and Greg Peters has stepped up from COO to become Ted Sarandos’s co-CEO.

Meanwhile, last month, it was reported that Netflix was planning to put an end to its password sharing feature in early 2023.

The company had long been aware that password sharing is a problem that negatively affects its earnings, but the rise in subscriptions in 2020 led the streaming giant to avoid addressing the issue. Because of the revenue downfall last year and the platform’s first subscriber loss in 10 years, Hastings decided that it was time to take action on the issue.

In October last year, the streaming giant announced the ‘Profile Transfer’ feature to prevent password sharing that had been rolled out to all members globally.

‘Chhatriwali’: Comedy loses its way in sex education

Directed by Tejas Deoskar. Starring Rakul Preet Singh, Sumeet Vyas, Satish Kaushik, Rajesh Tailang and Dolly Ahluwalia. Cinematography: Siddharth Vasani. Music: Mangesh Dhakde, Rohan-Rohan, Sumeet Bellary and Durgesh R. Rajbhatt.

Bollywood has found a safe haven on streaming platforms and is hell-bent on exploring themes that were earlier either forbidden or had no takers.

After the huge success of ‘Vicky Donor’, a film about sperm donation, a number of so-called taboo subjects have found their way into mainstream narratives. ‘Shubh Mangal Savdhan’ on erectile dysfunction, ‘Padman’ on menstrual hygiene, and ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ on gender diversities, to name a few.

In the latest, ‘Chhatriwali’, the themes are male contraceptives and safe sex. No harm in dealing with a subject that may not be still discussed openly in families, although everyone seems to be aware of condoms in big and small towns alike.

Set in Karnal, Haryana, the film is about Sanya Dhingra (Rakul), an unemployed chemistry whiz, who is looking for a job and uses her skills to fight an important social taboo by taking sex education classes for young people.
The trouble with such films is that the filmmakers don’t really know whether to make them a comedy or layer them with educational messages. The result obviously is chaos!

Shying away from going the whole hog, the film teeters on morality lessons and makes the female protagonist have her way as she propagates safe sex so that unwanted pregnancies don’t cause health issues among women.

Of course, there are bound to be problems galore, right from her family to her boyfriend, whom she later marries, to her in-laws not liking it if she told them that she works in a factory manufacturing condoms. So she used all tactics possible to ensure that no one gets to know about her job. Now that’s quite a challenge, isn’t it? But Sanya manages it pretty well until the point comes when she has to spill the beans.

Only a few months back, another film, ‘Janhit Mein Jari’, had Nushratt Baruccha playing a similar character. Both films handle almost the same old tiresome issues; men not being comfortable with protected sex, a female sales
executive not revealing her job to her parents and family, who throw a fit when they do get to know what their favorite daughter or bahu is up to, plus of course, innumerable lessons on how these subjects are not to be spoken directly or straightforwardly, and so on.

In a scene where her jethani (Prachee Shah) falls ill as a result of a number of miscarriages, the family dares not utter a word to the chauvinistic husband (Rajesh Tailang) about the mishap. He seems educated but has his way when it comes to fulfilling his sexual desires unguarded. The film does touch upon some relevant and oft-repeated dilemmas confronting married women in most middle-class families.

The film thus becomes a tad boring and repetitive. What keeps your interest alive is its lead, Rakul Preet, who tries to infuse energy and at times sensitivity to her lines. She gets just the support she needs from Vyas, who never lets us down. Both complement each other and make the most of the stereotypical situations with their
earnestness. But as I said earlier, both get restricted because of the predictable script.

The cinematography is passable and there’s nothing to write home about the film’s music.

If you are on a holiday and have nothing better to do, you could watch this less-than-two-hour social/family drama, if you, please!

‘Wah, Wah Ambani ji’; Reliance tycoons Mukesh-Nita shake a leg at son’s betrothal

0

In a lovely and rare gesture, billionaire tycoon Reliance Industries Ltd. Chairman Mukesh Ambani, along with his wife Nita, let their hair down briefly to shake a leg at the engagement ceremony of his third child Anant with Radhika Merchant.

Elder son Akash and wife Shloka, twin-sister Isha with her husband Anand Piramal joined the Ambani couple on the make-shift stage in their iconic Antilia building on Thursday night.

The country’s numero-uno power family swayed to the 1994 superhit song ‘Wah, Wah Ramji, Jodi Kya Banayi’ from the movie ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun?’, as many in the audience also couldn’t resist and joined to dance near their seats.

The mega-surprise ostensibly planned and executed by Nita Ambani, thrilled the select audience, with an endearing Mukesh bhai, not exactly a JT (John Travolta!) in his steps, bravely grinned and attempted to keep pace with his supple and nubile wife, though their children displayed more talent, everyone loved every moment.

Clapping and cheering them was a distinguished gathering comprising the Ambani family, their ‘samdhis’ from the daughter-in-law (Shloka) and son-in-law (Piramal) sides, guests, and other invitees.

After the dance number ended, a visibly relieved Mukesh Ambani waved at the audience, acknowledged their love with flying kisses and the entire family took a bow.

The happy occasion was the continuation of the ‘roka’ rituals performed at the famed Shrinathji Temple in NathDwara, Rajasthan on December 29, 2022, which was attended by only very close family members and some friends.

Thursday night’s ceremony was the traditional ‘Gol Dhana’ and ‘Chunari Vidhi’ along with the former exchange of rings by the young couple

‘Gol Dhana’, literally meaning jaggery and coriander seeds, is a pre-wedding ceremony in Gujarati traditions, akin to an engagement. These items are distributed at the groom’s place where the event takes place.

The age-old traditions were conducted with great enthusiasm in the family temple and ceremony areas followed by an exchange of greetings, gifts, bonhomie, and fun.

The evening started with Isha Ambani-Piramal visiting the home of her to-be-‘Bhabhi’ (sister-in-law), to formally invite them to the engagement ceremony.

The bride’s family came to the groom’s residence laden with gifts and sweets, and a lot of merrymaking followed with all joining in.

Then it was time for the ring ceremony, and Isha announced the ‘surprise’ ring-bearer, the family’s pet Golden Retriever!

The excited canine was brought down by an attendant to the stage and commanded to sit, the two tiny ring-boxes strapped to his shoulder were retrieved and handed over to Anant and Radhika.

They exchanged the rings with greetings pouring in from all sides, some more dancing with hands raised in benediction by their parents and others before them, and the couple took the blessings of the elders.

The evening’s festivities started with members of the Ambani family led by Anant’s sister Isha going to the Merchant residence to invite them and Radhika to the functions.

Then the Merchant family arrived to a warm welcome by the Ambani family at Antilia, amidst ‘Aartis’ and chanting of mantras.

The two families followed Anant and Radhika to the family temple for Lord Krishna’s blessings for the union and the engagement ceremonies.

From there the group moved to the ceremony venue to start the functions with a Ganesh puja followed by the reading of the traditional Lagan Patrika or the invitation to the upcoming wedding.

The elite audience comprised Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who hurried there after seeing off the Prime Minister, top film stars, cricketers, business honchos, and more.

Glittering at the venue were Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai-Bachhan, Sara Ali Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone, Varun Dhawan, John Abraham, Sachin Tendulkar, and wife Anjali, the Piramals, Mehtas and Merchants, several politicians, bureaucrats and more.

After the curtains downed on the engagement ceremonies, the gathering retired to a lavish vegetarian feast, though little birds fluttering around Antilia declined to disclose the cuisine at the sumptuous spread.

Anant and Radhika have known each other for a few years and the engagement ceremonies bring them closer to their upcoming marriage in the coming months.

Anant has completed his studies at Brown University in the US and has since served at Reliance industries in various capacities including as a member on the Boards of Jio Platforms and Reliance Retail Ventures. He currently leads the energy business of RIL.

Radhika, daughter of Shaila and Viren Merchant, is a graduate of New York University and serves as a Director on the Board of Encore Healthcare.

WhatsApp working on feature to send pics in original quality

0

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to send photos in their original quality.

The platform is planning to integrate a new setting icon within the drawing tool header which will allow users to configure the quality of any photo, reports WABetaInfo.

The new feature will provide users more control over the quality of photos they are sending, especially when sending the photo in its original quality is necessary.

The ability to send photos with their original quality is currently under development and is expected to be released in a future update of the application, the report said.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the messaging platform was rolling out a new ‘voice status updates’ feature on the Android beta, which will allow users to share voice notes via status updates.

The company also provides users more control over their voice recordings by offering the ability to discard a recording before sharing it.

Germany’s population reaches all-time high due to record immigration

0

Germany’s population swelled to an all-time record number of at least 84.3 million inhabitants at the end of 2022, due to record net immigration, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) said.

Up to 1.45 million more people moved to Germany than left the country, Xinhua news agency quoted a new Destatis report as saying.

Net immigration was more than four times higher than in the previous year, and stood at the highest level since records began in 1950.

The new figures show that “external migration is important for population development in Germany”, Sebastian Kluesener, research director at the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB), told Xinhua on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Destatis underlined that “without net immigration, the population would already have been shrinking since 1972, as more people have died than were born every year since”.

The increase in immigration to Germany in recent years is mainly due to war and violence in Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, as well as the Russia-Ukraine war more recently, Destatis said.

Constant immigration has also been observed from Romania, Bulgaria, and Poland.

In mid-2022, Europe’s largest economy was lacking more than half a million skilled workers across all occupational groups, according to the German Economic Institute (IW).

The social and healthcare sectors were the worst affected.

The German government, therefore, updated the country’s Skilled Immigration Act in order to accelerate the recruitment of skilled workers from non-EU countries.

“To be able to compete for talent and auxiliary workers, we are offering new, and more importantly, more straightforward ways to work in Germany,” said Federal Labour Minister Hubertus Heil, adding that the goal was to create the most modern immigration legislation in Europe.

Australian Open: Murray stages stunning comeback to beat Kokkinakis in a five-set thriller

0

The former World No. 1 Andy Murray rallied past home favorite Thanasi Kokkinakis 4-6, 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-3, 7-5 in a highly-anticipated second-round match at the Australian Open, advancing after five hours and 45 minutes in the longest match of his career.

It is the first time Murray has reached the third round at the first major of the season since 2017. He will next play Roberto Bautista Agut, the Spaniard who also rallied from two sets down to defeat American wild card Brandon Holt 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

The three-time Grand Slam champion Murray demonstrated his mental and physical strength for the second time this week, having edged Matteo Berrettini in a four-hour and 52-minute five-set thriller in the first round.

“It was unbelievable I managed to turn that around,” said Murray, a five-time Australian Open finalist. “Thanasi was serving unbelievably and hitting his forehand huge. I don’t know how I managed to get through it. I did start playing better as the match went on, but yeah, I have a big heart.

“I now am outright the most wins coming from two-sets-to-love down, so I have done it before. I have experience of it. I just rely on that experience and drive. That fight and love for the game and competing and my respect for this event and the competition and that is why I kept going.”

In a thrilling clash, Kokkinakis came out firing. The 26-year-old Australian struck 39 winners across the first two sets. In the third set, Kokkinakis broke Murray twice and surged to a 5-2 lead. But, the Scot battled back to gain a foothold in the match. Murray survived five break points in a 70-minute fourth set, eventually slotting an ace to send the match to a fifth.

The world No. 66 has produced some of his best tennis at the hard-court major, reaching the final five times. The 35-year-old Scot, who now holds a 51-14 record in Melbourne, has not advanced to the fourth round at a major since 2017 when he reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
