Twitter will soon let organisations identify associated accounts

0

Twitter boss Elon Musk announced that the micro-blogging platform would soon allow organizations to identify their associated accounts.

In a tweet, Musk said: “Rolling out soon, Twitter will enable organizations to identify which other Twitter accounts are actually associated with them.”

Several users expressed their thoughts on the post.

While one commented “eventually we’ll be asking, what can’t Twitter do? Looking forward to exciting things”, another user asked: “Will any user be able to create an organization? Or will Twitter be the arbiter of what constitutes an organization.”

“Ultimately, I think there is no choice but for Twitter to be the final arbiter, but I’m open to suggestions,” Musk replied.

After facing a barrage of fake profiles with verified badges, Musk recently said that the $8 Blue subscription service, pulled back by the company after facing strong criticism, was likely to be back soon.

The platform had paused its Blue service with verification after facing a slew of criticism recently as people bought the verified badge with Blue service, created fake accounts imitating big brands like Eli Lilly and Mario, and posted false tweets that left several brands embarrassed and to issue statements.

T20 World Cup: Srikkanth feels India should have focused on impactful bilateral series in lead-up to the tournament

0

Former India cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth feels that in the lead-up to the recently concluded Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, the Rohit Sharma-led side should have focused on impactful bilateral series against top teams and could have included more of those players who would have proved to be useful in Australian conditions.

In the Men’s T20 World Cup, India entered the semifinals of the tournament by becoming table-toppers from Group 2. But their quest of ending a nine-year wait for an ICC trophy came to an abrupt halt with a crushing 10-wicket loss to eventual champions England in the semifinal at the Adelaide Oval.

“I really don’t know, that’s why they did not walk the talk. As a selector or the chairman of the selection committee, I’ll put it this way, ‘Don’t take it seriously, series like West Indies and Ireland you don’t take it too seriously as these sides are a bit weak’. Even though I’m a great fan of West Indies and a fan of Ian Bishop who broke my hand once upon a time, that’s a different issue altogether,” said Srikkanth on the ‘Match Point’ show on Star Sports.

Incidentally, in the tournament, Ireland caused huge upsets, defeating the two-time champions West Indies in a decisive first-round match at Hobart, and was the only team in the tournament to defeat England in a famous five-run win at the MCG apart from running Australia and New Zealand close in Super 12s.

“But you don’t take those series seriously, you focus on the series that is very impactful. And you have to understand that you are playing in Australia, so for these Australian conditions who would be the right guys here? So that’s a mistake they all made in the sense that you have taken the Ireland series seriously, India vs Ireland. India vs England, yes fantastic bilateral series. But don’t take teams like Ireland seriously and pick players that are in form,” added Srikkanth, who formerly served as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee.

While replying to Srikkanth’s comments, former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop explained how the level of intensity required by teams to compete in tournaments such as the T20 World Cup is different as compared to a bilateral series. “I think it’s deeper than that. And everyone will know this, when you play bilateral cricket there’s a certain level of intensity, but when you come to a World Cup, there’s another step in the level of intensity and the level of responsibility that comes with that.

“So, there’s a great book written that you go into an England dressing room, and you see the guys in a bilateral series, and it’s like they are having fun. You go into that same dressing room when it’s a world cup, and people are on edge it’s a different level of focus and intensity required.”

“And I think if you play South Africa or England in a bilateral series before the World Cup, its different when you play them in a World Cup. And that’s the mindset that I think has to change. World Cup cricket we have to somehow be mentally strong to exhibit that same freedom.”

Virat, Suryakumar in ICC’s Most Valuable Team of T20 World Cup; Hardik 12th man

0

Charismatic India cricketers Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav have made it to the ICC’s ‘Most Valuable Team of the Tournament, which has been announced after England’s victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. Allrounder Hardik Pandya has been included as the 12th man.

Four England players — Alex Hales, skipper Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, and Mark Wood — have also made it to the side, though all-rounder and Test skipper Ben Stokes, who played a pivotal role in England’s win on Sunday hasn’t found a place in the select XI.

Kohli had turned on the heat in the showpiece tournament, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 296 runs to his name at a sensational average of 98.66. He smashed four fifties, including a superb unbeaten 82 against Pakistan in the Super 12.

Middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav had an equally incredible outing as Kohli. Suryakumar entertained everyone with his aggressive batting style throughout the course of the tournament, amassing 239 runs at an incredible strike rate of 189.68.

Pandya had a superb tournament, taking eight wickets in six matches, and finished as his team’s third-highest scorer despite coming in down the order. Were it not for his 33-ball 63, India would have never even threatened to reach a competitive total in the semi-final against England.

England’s returning opener Alex Hales played two magnificent knocks in the tournament, including an unbeaten 86 from 47 deliveries in the semifinal against India, and also finished as England’s second-highest run-scorer in this T20 World Cup. The top-order batter amassed 212 runs during the course of the event, at an outstanding average and strike rate of 42.40 and 147.22 respectively.

England skipper Buttler took some time to get going but he played a big part in his team’s winning campaign in the end, producing two match-winning knocks, first against New Zealand in the Super 12 and then against India in the semifinal. Buttler played a 47-ball 73 against the Kiwis and followed it up with an unbeaten 80 from 49 deliveries against India. He also finished as England’s highest run-scorer in the tournament, with 225 runs at an average of 45 and strike-rate of 144.23.

Zimbabwe’s veteran allrounder Sikandar Raza also found a place in the XI following his brilliant show with both bat and ball. Raza finished as Zimbabwe’s highest run-scorer in the tournament, with 219 runs to his name at a strike rate of 147.97. He also picked up 10 wickets while operating at a miserly economy rate of 6.50. He was outstanding with the bat to get Zimbabwe into the Super 12 stage, and his three wickets helped set up the shock win over Pakistan.

Most Valuable XI: Glenn Phillips (New Zealand), Shadab Khan (Pakistan), Sam Curran (England), Anrich Nortje (South Africa), Mark Wood (England), Alex Hales (England), Jos Buttler (England), Virat Kohli (India), Suryakumar Yadav (India), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan), Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe), Hardik Pandya 12th man (India).

ISL 2022-23: Silva helps East Bengal win against Bengaluru FC

0

Cleiton Silva left his former fanbase in silence, scoring the only goal of the game as East Bengal FC handed Bengaluru FC their third successive defeat of the season in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Friday.

The Blues failed to score in their third consecutive game as the Torch Bearers secured their first clean sheet of the season.

The Blues saw quite a few players recover from injuries during the extended break as Simon Grayson made three changes. Suresh Wangjam, Udanta Singh, and Javier Hernandez started together for the first time this season.

The Torch Bearers made just one change with Ankit Mukherjee replacing the suspended Sarthak Golui.

No goals were scored in the opening 45 minutes as the hosts finished the half without a single shot on target. In the first minute, Bruno Silva fired an effort from a distance that flashed just wide of the goal. Ten minutes later, Charis Kyriakou tried his luck from range, but his strike was collected comfortably by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

Two minutes past the hour-mark, Roy Krishna was put clean through on goal with a sublime pass from Hernandez. The Fijian entered the box but scuffed what would be Bengaluru FC’s only substantial chance.

In the 69th minute, the deadlock was finally broken. Running towards his own goal on the left as the last man, Wangjam came under pressure from Mahesh and miskicked his backpass towards the goalkeeper. Mahesh pounded on the loose ball and was one-on-one with the keeper when he squared it for Silva, who calmly tapped the ball in against his former club.

A minute away from 90, Chhetri flicked the ball towards Krishna who managed to get past the keeper but could not avoid Ivan Gonzalez’s brilliant last-ditch tackle that took the ball away from him. Six minutes were added on but the Blues could not breac’ the visitors’ defense.

The season’s second win for East Bengal FC saw them leapfrog Bengaluru FC in the ISL table and move into eighth place. The Blues are now ninth in the table, level on four points with Jamshedpur FC. For their next game, the Torch Bearers will return to the Salt Lake Stadium to face Odisha FC on November 18. The Blues will travel to the west coast to face Mumbai City FC next on November 17.

PKL 9: Ashish’s last-second raid hands U Mumba thrilling win over Puneri Paltan

0

Ashish pulled off a Do-or-Die raid in the last seconds of the match to help U Mumba prevail over Puneri Paltan in a close contest in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, here on Friday.

U Mumbai and Puneri Paltan were engaged in a neck-and-neck battle but the Mumbai side played its cards better in the last few minutes of the match to eventually defeat Puneri Paltan 34-33 on the night.

Aslam Inamdar picked up a couple of raid points as the Puneri Paltan inched ahead at 4-3 in the 8th minute. However, Guman Singh pulled off a Super Raid, catching out Sombir, Aslam Inamdar, and Abinesh Nadarajan to help the Mumbai side take the lead at 10-8 in the 13th minute.

But, Mohit Goyat and Mohammad Nabibakhsh carried out a Super Tackle in the 15th minute and got the Puneri Paltan back in the lead at 12-10. However, U Mumba fought back and inflicted an All-Out in the 19th minute to take the lead at 15-13. Thereafter, Aslam Inamdar picked up a bonus point just before half-time as both teams went into the break locked at 15-15.

After fighting an even battle in the opening minutes of the second half, the Pune side inched ahead at 19-16 in the 27th minute through excellent raids by Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat.

Moments later, Goyat effected a magnificent raid to reduce the Mumbai side to just one player on the mat. The Puneri Paltan tackled Guman Singh and inflicted an All-Out to take a massive lead at 25-20 in the 32nd minute.

Guman Singh effected a multi-point raid, but the Pune side still held the lead at 27-25 in the 36th minute. However, U Mumba inflicted an All-Out in the 38th minute and soon after, took the lead at 31-30.

Mohit effected a raid in the dying seconds of the match to level the scores at 33-33, but Ashish pulled off a Do-or-Die raid to hand U Mumba a thrilling victory in the end.

Niti Taylor: As a kid, I had a hole in my heart, wasn’t allowed to dance

‘Ishqbaaz’ actress Niti Taylor revealed that as a kid, she had a hole in her heart and she was not allowed to do many things including dance as it could have adverse effects on her health.

She said: “As a kid, I had a hole in my heart and there are many things that I was not allowed to do including dance because it could jeopardize my health. I couldn’t go to amusement parks or take flights or do anything remotely adventurous.”

The 27-year-old actress, who is currently seen on the dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10’ slipped and fell down while performing on the song ‘Saat Samundar Paar’ from late actress Divya Bharti-starrer 1992 film ‘Vishwatma’. This was her debut film and the song was also picturized on her.

During the 90s special episode of the show, the actress performed on the track along with her choreographer partner Akash Thapa. Though she slipped and fell down, her performance was appreciated by the judges Madhuri Dixit, Karan Johar, and Nora Fatehi.

Later, she told the judges about her past and how she suffered a serious illness but she never gave up, and post her recovery she started dancing.

“When I recovered, I danced with joy and I’ve been dancing since then. I’m so happy that I’m getting to live my adventure on ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’. I’m super grateful,” added the ‘Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan’ actress.

PKL 9: I made Vikas Kondola practice ankle holds before our game against Haryana: Bengaluru Bulls’ head coach

0

The Bengaluru Bulls pulled off a hard-fought 36-33 victory against the Haryana Steelers in the vivo Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi on Wednesday.

When asked about their victory, Bengaluru Head Coach Randhir Singh said, “I asked Neeraj Narwal to lead the attack in our game against Haryana Steelers. We wanted to surprise the Steelers with this tactic. And the margin of victory doesn’t matter to us because a win is a win at the end of the day.”

One of the Bulls’ prime raiders Vikash Kandola affected two tackle points during the match against Haryana. Speaking about the same, the Head Coach said, “I made Vikash Kandola practice ankle holds for three days. And he scored two tackle points in the game. We decided to attack aggressively in the first half, but once we had the lead, we wanted to play safely, especially in the back end of the game.”

The Bengaluru Bulls have won three and lost two games in the Pune leg so far. Summing up the team’s performance in Pune until their last game, the Head Coach said, “I felt that we shouldn’t have lost to Gujarat. I didn’t mind our loss against Haryana that much because that game could have gone either way. We had a six-point lead going into the final minutes of our match against Gujarat, but we lost that lead.”

Matches on Saturday:

The Bengal Warriors will be hoping to get back into winning ways when they take on Gujarat Giants on Saturday, but the Warriors will face stiff competition from Giants’ raiders Rakesh and Parteek Dhaiya.

The U.P. Yoddhas and the Telugu Titans will be desperate for a victory when they face off against each other. While the Titans will bank on raider Siddharth Desai, the Yoddhas’ charge will be led by raiders Pardeep Narwal and Rohit Tomar.

The match between Jaipur Pink Panthers and Dabang Delhi K.C. will be a cracker of a contest as both sides registered victories in their previous games. Raider Arjun Deshwal will be leading the attack for Jaipur, meanwhile, Captain Naveen Kumar will be the key for the Delhi side.

T20 World Cup: India not maximising Rishabh Pant is incredible, says Michael Vaughan

0

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has slammed the Indian team think-tank for not making the most out of the talent and explosiveness of Rishabh Pant during the Men’s T20 World Cup.

Pant, the left-handed batter, was picked for the semifinal against England ahead of Dinesh Karthik due to his ability to take down spinners in the middle overs. But India was unable to match up Pant with England’s spinners, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone, as captain Jos Buttler finished their overs quickly before the left-handed batter arrived at the crease in the 19th over.

“How they have not maximized someone like Rishabh Pant is incredible. In this era, put him up to the top to launch it. I’m just staggered by how they play T20 cricket for the talent they have.

“They have the players, but just do not have the right process in place. They have to go for it. Why do they give the opposition bowlers the first five overs to bed in?,” wrote Vaughan in his column for ‘The Telegraph’ on Friday.

Vaughan was also angry with India not having many all-rounders in the side, a feature which was there in the Indian teams of the past. “How have they only got five bowling options when you think 10 or 15 years ago all of India’s top six could bowl a little bit – Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag, and even Sourav Ganguly?”

He was baffled with leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal not getting a single game in the tournament despite conditions in Australia favoring wrist-spinners to excel.

“None of the batsmen bowl so the captain has only got five options. We know in T20 cricket the stats tell you a team needs a spinner who can turn it both ways. India have plenty of leg spinners. Where are they?”

India dearly felt the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja as Jos Buttler and Alex Hales raced to chase down 169 with four overs to spare, ending unbeaten at 80 and 86 respectively. Vaughan was heavily critical of India’s tactics against Buttler and Hales at the start of the innings.

“They have a left arm in Arshdeep Singh who swings it back into the right-handers. So what do they do defending 168? They put on Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling outswing to give Jos Buttler and Alex Hales width.

“Where is the left-arm seamer swinging it into Buttler and Hales in the first over? Madness. Cramp them for the room. Do not give them a chance to get off to a flyer in the first over and settle nerves.”

Countries launch collaborative actions to speed up decarbonisation

0

Countries, including India, on Friday, launched a package of 25 new collaborative actions to be delivered by COP27 to speed up the decarbonization under five key breakthroughs of power, road transport, steel, hydrogen, and agriculture.

Under the Breakthrough Agenda, countries representing more than 50 percent of global GDP, set out sector-specific aPriority Actions’ to decarbonize power, transport, and steel, scale up low-emission hydrogen production and accelerate the shift to sustainable agriculture by COP28.

These measures are designed to cut energy costs, rapidly reduce emissions and boost food security for billions of people worldwide.

The actions under each breakthrough will be delivered through coalitions of committed countries — from the G7, European Commission, India, Egypt, Morocco, and others, supported by leading international organizations and initiatives and spearheaded by a core group of leading governments.

These efforts will be reinforced with private finance and leading industry initiatives and further countries are encouraged to join.

The Priority Actions include agreements to Develop common definitions for low-emission and near-zero emission steel, hydrogen, and sustainable batteries to help direct billions of pounds in investment, procurement, and trade to ensure credibility and transparency.

Ramp up the deployment of essential infrastructure projects, including at least 50 large-scale net-zero emission industrial plants, at least 100 hydrogen valleys, and a package of major cross-border power grid infrastructure projects.

Set a common target date to phase out polluting cars and vehicles, consistent with the Paris Agreement. Significant backing for the dates of 2040 globally and 2035 in leading markets will be announced by countries, businesses, and cities on Solutions Day.

Use billions of pounds of private and public procurement and infrastructure spending to stimulate global demand for green industrial goods.

Systematically strengthen financial and technological assistance to developing countries and emerging markets to support their transitions backed up by a range of new financial measures, including the world’s first major dedicated industry transition program under the Climate Investment Funds.

And drive investment in agriculture research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) to generate solutions to address the challenges of food insecurity, climate change, and environmental degradation.

Pawan Kalyan likely to meet PM in Vizag

Tollywood actor and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter arrives here on Friday night to take part in various programs the next day.

The Jana Sena leader will arrive in the port city later in the day and call on the Prime Minister at around 8.30 p.m.

According to Jana Sena sources, the meeting will take place at the hotel where Modi would be staying.

Jana Sena’s political affairs committee chairman N. Manohar is also likely to accompany Pawan Kalyan during the meeting. Sources said the meeting was fixed as per the information received from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

This will be a significant political development in Andhra Pradesh as Pawan Kalyan, an ally of the BJP, is keen to forge a grand alliance of opposition to take on the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in the 2024 elections.

A bitter critic of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the actor had stated a few months ago that he is waiting for a roadmap from BJP to dislodge YSRCP from power.

The meeting will be significant in the wake of Pawan Kalyan’s desire to have the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as an ally to prevent the division of anti-YSRCP votes in the next elections.

Pawan Kalyan had backed the TDP-BJP alliance in the 2014 elections to the state Assembly and Lok Sabha.

Jana Sena had not contested the polls but the actor-politician had campaigned for the alliance and addressed a few public meetings along with Modi and TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Jana Sena had later parted ways with both BJP and TDP for not granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh as committed at the time of the bifurcation of the state in 2014.

In 2019, Jana Sena had contested the elections in alliance with the Left parties and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), but it won just one seat in the 175-member Assembly with Pawan Kalyan himself losing in both the seats he contested.

In 2020, Jana Sena and the BJP agreed to revive their alliance. However, they have not yet undertaken any joint program on people’s issues.

The state BJP leaders are also not in support of Pawan Kalyan’s suggestion to revive the alliance with the TDP.

The Prime Minister will be laying the foundation stone for various projects in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. He will also address a public meeting, which is likely to be attended by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

There have been speculations for the last few days on whether Pawan Kalyan would be invited to the public meeting.

The state BJP leaders were tightlipped over this.
