Tollywood superstar Krishna passes away at 79

Veteran Tollywood actor Krishna passed away at a hospital in Hyderabad early Tuesday while undergoing treatment after he suffered cardiac arrest. He was 79.

Superstar Krishna, one of the last legends of the Telugu film industry, breathed his last at Continental Hospital, where he was admitted late Sunday night after he suffered cardiac arrest.

According to doctors he was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state but was revived after 20 minutes of CPR. He was put on a ventilator and his condition was critical.

Krishna’s son and popular actor Mahesh Babu and other family members were present at the hospital.

Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy or Krishna, as he was popularly known, acted in more than 350 films in a career spanning five decades. He also produced and directed a few films.

Born on May 31, 1942, at Burripalem in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, Krishna entered the film industry in the early 1960s with small roles. He debuted as the lead actor in the 1965 movie aThene Manasulu’, which became a hit.

‘Gudacchari 116’ (1966), a spy film, proved to be a super hit, making Krishna one of the most sought-after actors. With this success, he got offers for 20 films. He subsequently acted in at least six James Bond-like movies.

‘Sakshi’ (1967) won critical acclaim at the Tashkent film festival. His 1972 movie ‘Pandanti Kapuram’ bagged the national film award for a best feature film in Telugu for that year.

Krishna is known for many landmark movies like ‘Alluri Seetharama Raju’ (19767), which was the first cinemascope movie in Tollywood, ‘Eenadu’ (1982), the first Eastman color film and ‘Simhasanam’ (1986), the first 70 mm film.

The superstar founded Padmalaya Studio in 1970 and produced some highly successful movies.

Krishna married Indira Devi in 1965. They had two sons including Mahesh Babu and three daughters. In 1969, he married actor Vijaya Nirmala and had one son with her. She died in 2019.

The superstar was reported to be depressed since the death of his wife Indira Devi in September. Early this year, he lost his elder son Ramesh Babu.

Krishna was considered close to former Prime Minister Rahiv Gandhi. He joined the Congress party in 1984 and was a critic of legendary actor N.T. Rama Rao and his Telugu Desam Party. Krishna had made a few films criticizing NTR and his government.

Krishna was elected to Lok Sabha from Eluru in 1989 but lost the election in 1991 from the same constituency. After Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, Krishna distanced himself from politics

He received several awards including NTR national award in 2003. In 2009, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian cinema.

Google agrees to pay $391 mn in users’ location data tracking lawsuit

0

Google will pay a historic $391.5 million in settlement to 40 states in the US over allegations that the tech giant tracked users’ location data without their consent in the country.

Last month, Google paid $85 million to the state of Arizona to settle the claims that the tech giant illegally tracked the location of Android users.

The new settlement with Google over its location tracking practices, led by Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum and Nebraska AG Doug Peterson, is the largest attorney general-led consumer privacy settlement ever.

Because of Oregon’s leadership role in the bipartisan investigation and settlement, Oregon will receive $14,800,563.

“For years Google has prioritized profit over their users’ privacy,” said Attorney General Rosenblum.

“They have been crafty and deceptive. Consumers thought they had turned off their location tracking features on Google, but the company continued to secretly record their movements and use that information for advertisers,” he said in a statement late on Monday.

As outlined in the settlement, Google misled its users into thinking they had turned off location tracking in their account settings, when, in fact, Google continued to collect their location information.

In addition to the multimillion-dollar settlement, as part of the negotiations with the AGs, Google has agreed to significantly improve its location tracking disclosures and user controls starting in 2023.

According to the Oregon Department of Justice, location data is a key part of Google’s digital advertising business. Google uses the personal and behavioral data it collects to build detailed user profiles and target ads.

In fact, location data is among the most sensitive and valuable personal information Google collects. Even a limited amount of location data can expose a person’s identity and routines and can be used to infer personal details.

The attorneys general found that Google violated state consumer protection laws by misleading consumers about its location-tracking practices since at least 2014.

Specifically, Google confused its users about the extent to which they could limit Google’s location tracking by adjusting their account and device settings.

In a blog post, Google said the lawsuit is based on “outdated product policies” that the company has already addressed.

Google said it will also start providing more “detailed” information about the data it collects tracking during the account setup process and is launching a new toggle to turn off and delete your location history and web and app activity “in one simple flow.”

Telangana seeks Centre’s approval for Hyderabad Metro Rail’s Phase II

0

Telangana’s Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao have urged Centre to accord in-principle approval for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II Project, from BHEL to Lakdikapul costing Rs 8,453 crore, as a jointly owned project of Centre and the state with external financial assistance.

In a letter to Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, KTR, as the Minister is popularly known requested to include the said proposal in the ensuing union budget for 2023-24. The new Metro Line is proposed to be 26 km long with 23 stations.

He sought to meet the Union Minister to explain the project. To avoid delays in processing, detailed project reports (DPRs) of the project (as prepared by DMRC) and other related documents were sent to the Centre by the Telangana government on October 27, the Minister added.

Noting that Hyderabad is the fastest-growing metropolitan city in terms of quarterly and year-on-year growth of real estate sector, especially since 2019-20, he said that with the opening up of all the offices in the post-Covid scenario, the need for expansion and strengthening of public transportation system needs no emphasis.

The Phase-I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project spanning over 69 km was successfully implemented and fully operational. Incidentally, it is the world’s largest Metro Rail Project in PPP mode under the Centre’s VGF scheme, he said.

Dalit group condemns ‘Daivardhane’ sequences of superhit Kannada movie ‘Kantara’

Dalit organizations have condemned the portrayal of Dalits in the super hit pan-India Kannada movie “Kantara”.

Samatha Sainik Dal State Secretary Lolaksha has stated that the film has insulted Dalits. “The Dalit community has been shown in poor light,” he said, claiming that the “Daivaradhane” sequences in the movie are twisted.

He had also raised objections to the highlight of the movie, the last 20-minute climax.

Lolaksha stated that they will bring their objections to the notice of the film team first. If their objections are not taken seriously, they will initiate legal proceedings against the film team.

“Kantara” is the second pan-India superhit from the Kannada film industry after “KGF Chapter-2”.

The film was, however, mired in controversies as a band claimed one of the songs used in the movie was theirs and Kannada actor Chetan Ahimsa stated that “Daivaradhane” is not part of the Hindu religion as shown in the movie.

Nida Dar’s all-round show helpes Pakistan beat Ireland, level 3-match series 1-1

0

An all-round performance by Nida Dar and a quick-fire 25 by Ayesha Naseem helped Pakistan register a six-wicket win over Ireland in the second T20I here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday.

The win helped the hosts level the three-match series 1-1 with things now depending on the result of the series decider, which will be played on Wednesday.

Chasing 119 to win in 17 overs in the match delayed by rain, the opening pair of Javeria Khan and Muneeba Ali provided a 26-run start off 19 balls before Muneeba fell to Arlene Kelly for 10-ball 12. Captain Bismah (2 off 5 balls) was next to go with 29 runs on the board.

Javeria was joined by Nida and the two most-experienced batters added 46 runs for the third wicket. Both Javeria (35, 39b, 3×4) and Nida (28, 25b, 1×4,1×6) ran themselves out and Pakistan was four down with 97 runs on the board, according to a report published on the official website of PCB.

The right-handed Ayesha struck two sixes and one four in her unbeaten knock of 25 from 12 balls, while Aliya Riaz hit two boundaries and returned unbeaten on 11 off seven balls. Both batters helped the hosts achieve the target with one over to spare.

Earlier, after opting to field first, the Pakistan bowlers kept Ireland batters in check as the tourists managed to score 118 for seven in their allotted 17 overs.

Opening batter Amy Hunter top-scored for Ireland with a 39-ball 36, which included three fours. Orla Prendergast, who was declared Player of the Match in the previous game managed to score 20 0ff 17 balls, hitting three fours.

For Pakistan, spinners Nida and Nashra Sundhu bagged two wickets apiece.

Brief scores: Ireland 118/7 in 17 overs (Amy Hunter 36, Orla Prendergast 20; Nida Dar 2-19, Nashra Sandhu 2-21) lost to Pakistan 121/4 in 16 overs (Javeria Khan 35, Nida Dar 28, Ayesha Naseem 25 not out; Arlene Kelly 1-18) by 6 wkts

Australian Open: With top stars pulling out, all eyes on Sameer Varma, Mithun Manjunath

0

With top stars, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth pulling out, World No. 33 Sameer Verma and No. 45 ranked Mithun Manjunath will be the only Indian players in action in the men’s singles section of the Australian Open 2022.

Saina Nehwal has also withdrawn from the year’s last event before the BWF Tour Finals, which starts here on November 15.

The Australian Open is the last stop to punch tickets to the BWF World Tour Finals in December, and several Indian players sent their initial entries. The BWF World Tour Super 300 Australian Open, with a prize fund of USD 180,000, is scheduled to end on November 20.

In men’s singles, Sameer Verma will start off against Nathan Tang of Australia and has a clear path to the quarterfinals where he is likely to face Malaysia’s Commonwealth Games men’s singles silver medallist Tze Yong Ng.

Manjunath will run into former World Champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore, the second seed, in the first round.

With Malavika Bansod too pulling out, Anwesha Gowda and Tanya Hemanth are the two Indians in the fray in the women’s singles. Anwesha will start against Pitchaya Elysis Viravong of Australia. Tanya Hemanth will open her campaign against Malaysia’s Goh Jim Wei.

In women’s doubles, Simran Singh and Ritika Thaker of India will take on the Indonesian combination of Meilysa Trias Puspita Sari and Rachel Allessya Rose while Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda will take on the Chinese Taipei combination of Lee Chia Hsin and Teng Chun Hsun in the opening round.

In men’s doubles, Hariharan Amsakarunan of Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi has a tough task in the opening round as they face China’s seventh seed Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang.

T20 World Cup: Players with experience of playing in T20 leagues around the world really shone, says Daren Sammy

0

Two-time T20 World Cup-winning skipper Daren Sammy on Monday said players who had the experience of playing in T20 leagues around the world were the ones who shone in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in Australia.

While players from sides like champions England, runners-up Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, and Sri Lanka take part in T20 leagues around the world, Indian cricketers are not allowed to play in overseas T20 leagues, including the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia.

“I think the other thing this tournament has shown us is that while the teams are definitely getting closer, the players with experience of playing in T20 leagues around the world really shone.”

“You look at India, who have the biggest T20 league, but their players do not have the experience of the guys who are playing all over the world. You look at guys like Alex Hales, and Chris Jordan, guys who play in the Big Bash. It is no coincidence that they excelled in Australia,” wrote Sammy in his column for the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.

Sammy, who led West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016, said England deserved to be the champions for their ability to adapt to every situation thrown at them during the tournament.

“England have always been able to adapt to what the situation required. Whether it was against Afghanistan in Perth, they did what they needed to get the win. Against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, they upped the tempo when necessary.”

“Then, in the final, they only needed a victory and to chase 137, and they did it. That is maturity in a batting line-up, understanding what you need to do, and playing accordingly. They were the most adaptable team with bat and ball and they are worthy winners.”

“England was the most complete team at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and they are fitting champions. They showed they were the best all-around team in all their pressure matches. Against India, in the semifinal, we saw it, against Sri Lanka when they had to win to qualify and then in the final, they were dominant.”

Sammy further felt that Pakistan was not operating in their strength areas during the final, leading to them losing by five wickets to England at the MCG. “Pakistan were always up against it when they lost the toss and batted first. That does not play to their strengths.”

“They want to bowl first, restrict the opposition and then let Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam go out and chase. We saw that they were too tentative batting first. You need to be brave in the Power-play and put teams under pressure earlier.”

“Commiserations to Pakistan though, who overcame all the odds to get to the final and they were not too far away in the end. But England won it and they deserved it,” he added.

I feel ‘betrayed’, have ‘no respect’ for Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag, says Cristiano Ronaldo

0

Manchester United star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo said that he feels “betrayed” by the club for trying to force him out of the team. The Portuguese star said that he has “no respect” for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag because he “doesn’t show respect for me”.

Ronaldo, who re-joined United in August 2021 and finished as their top scorer in all competitions last season with 24 goals said, “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”

In an interview with Piers Morgan for TalkTV, released by The Sun, Ronaldo also claimed there has been “zero progress” at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in the summer of 2013.

When asked if United’s hierarchy was trying to force him out of the club, Ronaldo was quoted as saying by Sky Sports, “Yes. Not only the coach but the other two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed.”

“Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t care. People should hear the truth. Yes, I feel betrayed. Some people don’t want me here not only this year but last year too. I don’t know what’s going on. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left I have seen no evolution in the club. The progress is zero,” the 37-year-old said.

“For example, an interesting point is how a club like Manchester United sacked Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer), they bring in a sporting director Ralf Rangnick which is something nobody understands. This guy is not even a coach! A big club like Manchester United bringing in a sporting director surprised not only me but all the world,” he said.

Ronaldo was also critical of former United teammate Wayne Rooney.

“I don’t know why he criticizes me so badly…probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level. I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”

‘May affect security of nation’, SC asks Centre on steps taken to deal with forced religious conversions

0

The Supreme Court on Monday said the issue of forced religious conversion is “very serious” and may affect the security of the nation as well as the freedom of citizens and asked the Centre to make its stand clear on what steps can be taken to curb forced conversions.

The top court said there is freedom of religion, but no freedom of forced conversion.

A bench headed by Justice M.R. Shah and comprising Justice Hima Kohli was hearing a petition filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay against fraudulent religious conversion and religious conversion by intimidation, threatening, deceivingly luring through gifts and monetary benefits, as it offends Articles 14, 21, and 25.

Justice Shah told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, this is such a serious matter and Mr. Mehta, where is your stand by way of the counter? Very serious and sincere efforts are to be made.

Mehta submitted that there were two acts by MP and Orissa on forcible religious conversion and pointed out that people are lured by giving rice and wheat, which is a ground for conversion. “It is rampant in tribal areas”, said Mehta, adding that he will file a reply by Monday.

Justice Shah said there may be a freedom of religion, but no freedom of forced conversion and asked Mehta, what steps have been taken by the Centre, “otherwise very difficult… Make your stand very clear, what action you propose to take.” The bench told Mehta that the Centre must step in to stop such forceful conversion before the situation becomes difficult and asked the government to make its stand clear on forced religious conversions.

The top court said the issue with alleged conversion of religion if it is found to be true, affects the security of the nation as well as the freedom of citizens, therefore it is better that the Union of India make its stand clear and file a counter on what steps can be taken to curb forced conversions by force, allurement or fraudulent means. After hearing arguments, the bench scheduled the matter for further hearing on November 28 and asked the Centre to file its response before November 22.

On September 23, the Supreme Court issued notice on a plea against fraudulent religious conversion and religious conversion by intimidation, threatening, and deceivingly luring through gifts and monetary benefits, as it offends Articles 14, 21, and 25. The plea claimed that if such conversions were not checked, Hindus would soon become a minority in India.

In the previous hearing, Upadhyay had told the apex court that women and children are the main targets of foreign-funded missionaries and conversion mafias, but the Centre and state governments have not taken appropriate steps to control religious conversion in the spirit of Article 15(3).

The plea said, “freedom of religion enshrined in Article 25 is not granted exclusively in respect of one faith but includes all religions equally, and an individual may properly enjoy it if he practices his right in a manner commensurate with the freedom of persons practicing the other religions. What is liberty for one, in equal measure, is freedom for the other, and therefore, there can be no such thing as a fundamental right to turn another man into one’s own religion”.

The petitioner has made the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, CBI, NIA, and state governments respondents in the matter.

The plea contended that Church planting is a process that results in a new (local) church being established and several unethical predatory conversion strategies are commonly used. It added that one method is material enticement in which humanitarian aid or economic, educational, medical, or social assistance is offered on the condition that the person converts. “Another is the denigration of the person’s religion to make a new religion appear superior. A third unethical, predatory method is the promotion of ‘bigotry’ i.e. knowingly and intentionally promoting religious hatred & violence. Predatory proselytization tears apart the fabric of the communities where it occurs and has led to the annihilation of culture”, added the plea.

Upadhyay said the situation is alarming as many individuals-organizations are carrying out the mass conversion of socially and economically underprivileged citizens, particularly those belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes by use of force, allurement, and fraudulent means like black magic, superstition, healing, etc.

PKL 9: I will get VIkas Kandola back into form, says Bengaluru Bulls coach Randhir Singh

0

The Bengaluru Bulls registered a comprehensive 40-34 victory over Tamil Thalaivas in the vivo Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi in Pune on Sunday. However, Bulls’ star raider Vikash Kandola’s form has been a cause for concern for the team.

Speaking about the same, Bengaluru Head Coach Randhir Singh said, “I’ll get Vikash Kandola back into form. I am going to take this as a challenge. Vikash will play well in the Hyderabad leg. This season has been very competitive so far. We are not thinking about the trophy at the moment. We are taking it to step by step.”

The Bengaluru Bulls played exceedingly well against Tamil Thalaivas’ prime raider Narender on Sunday. The Bulls Captain Mahender Singh spoke about his team’s plans against Narender, “Our coach noticed that Narender waits for the defenders to attack before making his move while raiding. Once the defenders try to catch him, Narender finds a way to cross the line quickly. We kept this in mind and we managed to deal with him in this game.”

Matches on Tuesday:

The match between Jaipur Pink Panthers and U Mumba will be a cracker of a contest as both sides registered massive victories in their previous matches. While the Panthers will bank on raider Arjun Deshwal, raider Guman Singh will lead the charge for the Mumbai side.

The Telugu Titans are desperate for a victory, but they will face a strong challenge from raiders Bharat and Neeraj Narwal during their next encounter against the Bengaluru Bulls on Tuesday.

YouTube TV adds clock to help keep track of time

0

YouTube TV has rolled out a new update in which it adds a clock to keep track of the time while streaming content on the video-streaming platform.

According to 9to5Google, YouTube announced the addition via a PSA-style ad that had some rather amusing descriptions.

“Some YouTube TV customers have reported a lack of knowing what time it is due to the removal of their old cable box. If you are one of these people, do not panic. Starting November 10th, you will be able to find the time directly on your YouTube TV live guide,” the description reads.

On the top-left corner, underneath the platform’s logo, in the Live tab, users will find this simple clock.

In Chromecasts, the new feature will save users from long-pressing the Home button on their remote to access quick settings and check the time card, which is quite small, according to the report.

Earlier this month, YouTube rolled out its TikTok rival short-form video app Shorts on TV to its global users.

Srikkanth wants Hardik to be made T20I skipper till 2024 T20WC; rebuild side from NZ series

0

Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the former India cricketer and ex-chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, said if he was the current chief selector, he would appoint Hardik Pandya as the captain of the side till the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup and would get down to rebuilding the side from the upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand.

In the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in Australia, India entered the semifinals of the tournament by becoming table-toppers from Group 2, winning four out of their five matches.

But their quest of ending a nine-year wait for a World Cup trophy came to an abrupt halt with a crushing 10-wicket loss to eventual champions England in the semifinal at the Adelaide Oval, which led to India being criticized heavily for playing an outdated version of T20 cricket.

Pandya, who led Gujarat Titans to win IPL 2022, will be filling in as captain for Rohit Sharma in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand starting from Friday in Wellington. The series will also mark the start of India’s road to the next edition of the T20 World Cup in 2024, which will be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA.

“See if I was the Chairman of the selection committee, I would say that Hardik Pandya should be the captain of the 2024 World Cup, straight away, I’d put it that way – number one. And start rebuilding a side right from today, that is from the New Zealand series which is going to happen in a week’s time.”

“You start from today, the preparation for the World cup, you need to understand, starts 2 years in advance. So, you do whatever you want to do, the trial and error policy, do whatever you want, try it for one year, then you form a team and by 2023 make sure this is going to be at the level that is going to play the World Cup,” said Srikkanth on ‘Match Point’ show on Star Sports.

Srikkanth also called for India to identify all-rounders like Deepak Hooda who could play varied roles in the T20 World Cup. “You need more fast-ball all-rounders. Let’s see, the 1983 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, and 2007 T20 World Cup, why did we win? We had many fast-ball all-rounders and semi-all-rounders. So, to identify these guys — guys like Hooda, like Hooda, there are going to be so many more Hoodies.”

Former India left-arm pacer and 2007 T20 World Cup winner Irfan Pathan feels that the side needs to create a couple of leaders in case Pandya gets injured and may not captain the T20 team. In the T20Is against New Zealand, Rishabh Pant will be serving as Pandya’s deputy.

“So, I’m not saying that if you change the captain you change the result, if you go like that you’re not going to change the result. And with Hardik Pandya, you need to understand, we all need to understand, that he’s a fast bowling all-rounder. He has injury issues as well.”

“What if he is your captain who is getting injured right before the World cup? And if you don’t have any other leader ready, you’ll be in a mess. So, what I personally think is that Hardik Pandya is a leader, who has done very well in the Gujarat Titians, won IPL, and won the championship trophy.

“You need to find not one, but two leaders going forward to build their mark. You know just like we talk about openers – we need to have a group of openers, we also need to have a group of leaders.”

Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop highlighted that with the amount of talent available in India, selectors need to be making the right choices while selecting the right players in the Indian T20I team in the future. “That has always been what selection has always been about, if it was that simple of choosing the guys who are on top of the statistics, you wouldn’t need a selector.

“Anyone can go and make a base and make a team, but you have to see beyond the numbers, who is playing what bowling well in what conditions, who is playing the hard games. So, that’s where the real selector earns his money.”

“Look, I still think that there’s a kid called Mohsin Khan who plays in the IPL. And that’s another one that I can recall as well, there are several highly talented players who are still in the nation. I think the talent is there to win the World Cup, it’s just a matter of picking the right people at the right time, there’s just too much talent available.”

‘Bigg Boss 16’: Tina Datta goes against everyone over captaincy

Cracks seem to develop in the newly formed family of ‘Bigg Boss 16’ as Tina Datta is seen locking horns with Shalin Bhanot, Sajid Khan, and MC Stan over the captaincy.

A promo of the upcoming episode was shared by the channel Colors on Instagram. It shows that Tina Datta, Sajid Khan, Shalin Bhanot, Nimrit Kaur, MC Stan, Shiv Thakare, and Abdu Rozik discuss becoming this week’s captain of the house.

Amid the discussion, Sajid is heard saying: “I will become captain this week.”

Later, Shalin is seen telling Shiv that you want to become captain every time. Tina also expresses her desire to become the next captain.

She says: “I also want to become captain dude.”

However, MC Stan says: “Tina ke captaincy mein koi kaam bhi nahi karega meko aisa lagta hai.”

Tina gets upset with Sajid for not taking her side when he promised to do so and questions him about the same, “half an hour back you promised me and now you have broken the promise” and Sajid says “nahi mein nahi mukar gaya” (No, I did not go back).

Moments later Tina goes up to Shalin and says “don’t say we are a family. Now I will flip.”

T20 World Cup: A score between 160-170 would have been a fighting total for Pakistan, says Inzamam-ul-Haq

0

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq feels that if the Babar Azam-led side would have got a score between 160-170 in the Men’s T20 World Cup final against England at the MCG, it would have been a fighting total.

He also rued that Pakistan didn’t get a sizeable amount of runs from the death overs phase, though he was appreciative of the fight shown by the bowlers with the ball.

After being pushed into batting first, Pakistan lost Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Mohammad Haris cheaply. Though Shadab Khan and Shan Masood were resurrecting the innings, Pakistan never got to break free as England bowled amazingly to keep them in check.

In the last five overs, Pakistan could only make 31 runs as the batters perished in search for the big hits and ended up at a below-par 137/8 in their 20 overs, which was chased down by England in 19 overs.

“It is a bit disappointing that Pakistan had a great opportunity to win the World Cup but they could not win. I must appreciate the boys as coming into the final is no small effort and it’s a big achievement to be at that stage from where the boys were at the start.

“I understand the score was less than par. Pakistan played well till the 15-16th over. But they failed to make those extra 20-25 runs in the last four-five overs. I believe a score between 160 and 170 would have been a fighting total.

“England would have been under a lot of pressure chasing such a score. Pakistani bowlers made a fine effort. The good thing was that their body language was fantastic. Pakistan could have won the game too (in the final). People were talking about the repeat of the 1992 World Cup and I believed that Pakistan could win,” Haq said on his Youtube channel The Match Winner.

With the ball, Pakistan got three England wickets in power-play, all thanks to their pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. But were unable to dislodge a gritty Ben Stokes from the crease, who slammed an unbeaten 52 to take England to their second T20 World Cup title.

“In my opinion, I believe Pakistan did not play good cricket. It was a much better team. But the good thing for me in this tournament and in previous occasions is that this team did not give up in any kind of situation, whether the score was small or not. Whatever the situation was, this team fought hard.”

“We saw in the final that a score of 137 was nothing. But the body language of Pakistan’s bowlers was not bad though the final was lost. There will be criticism post this loss but the important thing to be credited is that they fought hard,” added Inzamam.

Inzamam, a 1992 ODI World Cup winner, stated that he would understand the mindset of players right now after losing the final of a major tournament. “We had also lost the 1999 World Cup final. I know how our days were spent post the loss. Hence I understand what these players must be going through after the loss. But I also know the feeling of winning the 1992 World Cup. I know what it feels to win a world cup and what it feels to lose a world cup final.

“The public too understands this now. The major thing was how Pakistan made a comeback in the tournament. From where they were and from where they finished was great. All credit should go to Babar Azam and his team. The best thing was that this team showed a fighting spirit.”

Inzamam concluded by acknowledging the role of the support staff in keeping the team together as a unit. “The team played as a unit and I should congratulate the coaching staff including Saqlain (Mushtaq), (Mohammad) Yousuf, (Matthew) Hayden, and Shaun Tait for that. Their role was huge too; it may not be visible from the outside.

“But gelling the team well, not letting the body language go down, keeping the confidence of players high, which is also a major role played by the support staff. I am sure the team will work hard again, and make the desired changes so that better results can be achieved by this team.”

Apple continues to add employees to its AR headset project

Apple continues to hire employees for its AR (augmented reality)-MR (mixed reality) headset project, which indicates that the operation is still active.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Dave Scott, a former senior self-driving car unit member, who left in early 2021 has returned, reports AppleInsider.

With the experience of selling complicated goods and history in the medical and robotics industries, it is expected that Scott’s involvement will bring health-related applications to the headsets.

Yaniv Gur, a senior director of engineering, has also reportedly joined the headset group. Gur has worked with engineering for iWork apps and other native apps since he started working for Apple more than two decades ago.

It is expected that Gur’s involvement “could lead to the development of productivity applications for the headset, the report said.

Recently, the company has also posted a significant number of job postings for the Technology Development Group, which is in charge of headset development.

Some job postings are for positions in content production, including software developers for visual effects.

Earlier, the tech giant was reportedly planning to start mass production of its AR-MR headsets in March of next year.

The mass production of the headset would probably start in March 2023 and might be unveiled in the following month.
