‘Configuration change’ behind global Instagram outage: Meta

Meta has announced that ‘Configuration change’ was the reason behind the global Instagram outage.

The company said that it has fixed the issue that briefly made Instagram and Facebook inaccessible for some users, reports The Verge.

When trying to load either site on a desktop browser or display, affected users encountered errors such as “page not available” or “feed not refreshing”.

But there were some users that were not impacted and were able to load all of Meta’s services without any problems.

Thousands of users from many parts of India and the world reported problems with the application.

On Downdetector, an online platform that provides users with real-time information about the status of various websites and services, over 900 users in India reported issues in accessing Instagram.

Many users took to the microblogging platform Twitter to report the issue.

“Instagram freezes using Google Chrome browser. Cannot see stories or open users’ pages. It keeps loading,” an Instagram user said in a tweet.

“Everything quit working. Force closed and cleared cache. Even restarted my phone. Can’t see notifications. Can’t reply to comments,” another user commented.

During the last Instagram outage which occurred in September, nearly 34,000 users reported having trouble accessing the platform.

In front of their home fans for the first time this season, the Puneri Paltan threatened to win big against the Haryana Steelers. But the Haryana side fought back and eventually tied the match 27-27 in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, here on Friday.

The Paltan made an explosive start with Mohit Goyat starting off with a Super Raid. A close review by the Paltan also worked out in their favor, as they had the momentum in their corner, playing at home for the first time this season. Midway through the first half, the Paltans were in control and had a slender 1-point lead, with both sides being watchful in their approach.

Cheered on by the home support, the Paltan raged on as Fazel Atrachali and co tackled emphatically, giving themselves a 3-point lead at 13-10 at the end of the first half.

The Pune team started off the second half on the front foot, attaining an 8-point lead with an All Out. Soon after though, the Steelers went through the gears, with Manjeet taking charge and Mohit chipping in too, cutting down the lead significantly midway through the second half.

The Steelers stayed in the hunt with Manjeet getting an Out, bringing the difference in points down to 2 in the 36th minute. Soon after Manjeet and Amirhossein Bastami brought the Steelers to level pegging, with just over a minute to go.

The final minutes of the game was riveting as both teams threw the kitchen sink at each other, but eventually, the sides had to share the spoils with the score 27-27 at the final whistle.

Flipkart losses widens to Rs 4,362 cr in FY22, up 51%

Walmart-owned Flipkart’s losses widened to Rs 4,362 crore in FY22, a 51 percent increase from the last financial year.

The e-commerce platform reported Rs 10,659 crore as revenues in FY22, an increase of 31 percent (-on-year), according to data accessed by business intelligence platform Tofler.

The company’s total expenses for FY22 were Rs 15,020 crore.

Flipkart recently achieved more than 1 billion customer visits on its platform during The Big Billion Days (TBBD) festive sales.

According to Walmart’s filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Flipkart spent $1.1 billion from February 1 to July 31.

In comparison, Amazon India posted a 32.5 percent growth (YoY) by reporting Rs 21,462 crore in revenue for its marketplace vertical called Amazon Seller Services. The e-commerce giant also narrowed its losses by 23 percent to Rs 3,649 crore in FY22.

Meanwhile, retail giant Walmart is reportedly raising up to $3 billion for its e-commerce giant Flipkart to further expand its operations in the country.

With new funds, Flipkart’s valuation is set to soar to more than $40 billion, giving a fillip to the Indian funding scene which is going through a harsh winter.

Flipkart Group in July last year raised $3.6 billion to grow and advance the digital commerce ecosystem in India. The investment valued the group at $37.6 billion post the money then.

According to media reports, Walmart may bring strategic investors into Flipkart via this fundraising.

Twitter to be delisted from New York Stock Exchange on Nov 8

Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk has taken the micro-blogging website private and the company’s stock will be delisted from the New York Stock Exchange on November 8, a new filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has revealed.

This came after Musk completed Twitter’s $44 billion takeover and fired its Indian-origin CEO Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, and the company’s policy chief Vijaya Gadde.

Twitter delisting will take place on the same day as the US midterm elections.

“The New York Stock Exchange hereby notifies the SEC of its intention to remove the entire class of the stated securities from listing and registration on the Exchange at the opening of business on November 08, 2022,” read the SEC filing.

The filing further said that “the merger between Twitter and X Holdings II, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of X Holdings I, Inc., wholly owned by Elon R. Musk became effective on October 27, 2022”.

Each share of Twitter was exchanged for $54.20 in cash, without interest and less any applicable withholding taxes.

Making Twitter a private company gives Musk some advantages.

According to reports, privately held firms do not have to make quarterly public disclosures about their performance and are subject to less regulatory scrutiny.

Musk will also have tighter control over Twitter.

Twitter will likely form a new board after the current members dissolve. Musk is likely to take over as Twitter CEO for the time being.

President Droupadi Murmu would visit Nagaland on November 2 and 3, on her second visit to the northeastern region after assuming office, officials said on Friday.

Officials said that the President would attend a number of events while the state government would accord her a civic reception at Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima on November 2.

The state government has invited Presidents and other leaders of the 22 tribal organizations to attend the civic reception wearing their traditional shawls.

President Murmu earlier this month visited Tripura (October 12-13) and Assam (October 13-14) and laid foundation stones and inaugurated a slew of projects.

The highly-anticipated Group 1 clash between Australia and England in Super 12 of the Men’s T20 World Cup on Friday was washed out due to rain without a ball being bowled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

Earlier in the day, another Group 1 match between Ireland and Afghanistan was also abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. Now, just like Afghanistan and Ireland split points, England and Australia will now share points from Friday’s washout.

The toss for the clash, which was supposed to be at 6:30 pm Melbourne time, was delayed ahead of an inspection at 7.30 pm local time. There were hopes that a truncated match would happen as covers were taken off, as the fans saw a glimmer of hope.

But, with player safety being a priority and the outfield being visibly damp, umpires Chris Brown, Joel Wilson, and Aleem Dar decided to have another inspection at 8:15 pm. With conditions not changing much, a third inspection was scheduled later on.

But just 20 minutes before the scheduled inspection would happen, the rain returned and eventually led to the match being called off as captains Aaron Finch and Jos Buttler shook hands. Australia and England were awarded one point each and now join table-toppers New Zealand and second-placed Ireland on three points in the Group 1 point table.

“The outfield was drenched, it was as wet as I have ever seen it. I think the run-ups were an issue and the inner circle. It comes down to player safety. If you are trying to run out there, it was going to be a real issue,” said Finch later on.

The next match from Group 1 will be played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka on Saturday at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with the winner of the clash having a chance to be on top of Group 1.

England’s next match in the tournament will be against New Zealand at The Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday, with Australia facing Ireland on Monday at the same venue.

The Indian currency gave up its early gains due to higher dollar demand.

Earlier this month, the rupee had touched a record high of 83.18 against the dollar.

The investors’ dim outlook on China and also on the overall global economy has impacted the rupee.

The rupee’s fate will also depend on the crucial Federal Reserve meeting on November 2, market watchers said.

In addition to this, the ECB’s soft comments drove market views that central banks will likely moderate the pace of monetary tightening.

This was more so after the Bank of Canada surprisingly announced a smaller-than-expected rate hike.

The ‘Khiladi’ of Bollywood Akshay Kumar’s latest release ‘Ram Setu’ and Hindi film star Ajay Devgn’s ‘Thank God, which clashed at the box office, have raked in Rs 35.40 crore and Rs 18.25 crore respectively since their release on October 25.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter, where he shared the box-office numbers for both movies.

For ‘Ram Setu’, he shared: “#RamSetu is holding well in mass pockets, which is driving its biz… But biz at multiplexes/urban centers – which contribute a large chunk – is lackluster… Weekend biz [Fri to Sun] will be the decider…Tue 15.25 cr, Wed 11.40 cr, Thu 8.75 cr. Total:? 35.40 cr. #India biz.”

The story of ‘Ram Setu’ revolves around an atheist archaeologist turned believer, Dr. Aryan Kulshrestha (Akshay Kumar), who must race against time to prove the true existence of the legendary Ram Setu before evil forces destroy the pillar of India’s heritage.

Hollywood actor of Indian descent Ravi Patel is the latest addition to the cast of Fox’s upcoming comedy series ‘Animal Control’.

Ravi joins previously announced series leads Joel McHale and Vella Lovell. Per the single-camera show’s official logline, it is a “workplace comedy following a group of Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not,” reports Variety.

Patel will star in the role of Amit Patel, said to be “an Animal Control officer and overwhelmed family man with more family responsibilities than he bargained for. His partner Victoria has a lifestyle that is so different from his own, they could be from different planets.”

The 43-year-old actor, who was born in Freeport, Illinois to Indian American parents, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001 with double majors in Economics and International Studies. His sister, Geeta Patel, is a writer and director.

Ravi has recently been seen in the hit comedy ‘Ghosts as well as the English-language remake of the French film ‘The Valet’.

His other recent credits include ‘Wonder Woman 1984′, the docuseries Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness’ for HBO Max, and ‘Bhaag Beanie Bhaag’ for Netflix, both of which he created.

He has also been featured in shows like ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy, ‘Master of None, and ‘Grandfathered’.

South Indian actress Tanya Hope is set to make her Hindi debut with an appearance in a dance number for the recently announced yet-to-be-titled fourth film of Bollywood actor Aayush Sharma. The action thriller film is tentatively titled ‘AS04’ and was announced by Aayush, with a teaser of the film on his social media.

Talking about the dance number in the Aayush Sharma-starrer, the actress said, “The song we danced to is a banger and I can’t wait for the audience to hear it. The great Jani master has choreographed this track, and we all really enjoyed shooting it and performing it. Without a doubt, this will be the next banger at all the weddings.”

The actress also spoke about the pattern of Bollywood remaking content from South India. She said that it helps reach local stories to a wider set of audience.

She said, “There are some great stories being made in different languages too and they are reaching a bigger audience. I have also done a remake of a Bollywood film in Tamil. It was a remake of ‘Vicky Donor’, which was titled ‘Dharla Prabhu’ where I played the character that was played by Yami Gautam in the Hindi version”.

Shraddha appears in ‘Thumkeshwari’, raises curiosity bar for ‘Bhediya’

The wolves are howling in unison as after ‘Param Sundari’, Kriti Sanon is back to shaking a leg on the first song from her upcoming movie ‘Bhediya’, titled ‘Thumkeshwari’.

The funky dance number sees Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon swaying to Ganesh Acharya’s choreography. But, the major takeaway from the song is Shraddha Kapoor, who also features grooving to the upbeat number.

Sharing his thoughts on the track, Varun Dhawan said in a statement: “Thumkeshwari is a number that’s tailor-made to burn the dance floor. I thoroughly enjoyed performing to its funky tune. The song’s lyrics are a catchy delight, and I am sure fans are going to have a gala time dancing to the track.”

‘Bhediya’ belongs to the horror-comedy universe of producer Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Shraddha featuring in the song takes the viewers back to the ‘Stree’ days and piques the interest of the audience behind this appearance of her in the song she will have a cameo in the film as well.

About working on the song, Kriti said: “I had an absolute ball shooting for ‘Thumkeshwari’. I was sharing screen space with Varun after a very long time and we have never worked on this kind of a grand track together. This was quite the memorable experience.”

Composed by Sachin-Jigar and penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, who also wrote the lyrics for ‘Param Sundari’, Thumkeshwari is a peppy number crooned by the music directors themselves along with Ash King and Rashmeet Kaur.

Presented by Jio Studios and Dinesh Vijan, ‘Bhediya’ is a Maddock Films production, directed by Amar Kaushik, and produced by Dinesh Vijan.

The film, which also stars Deepak Dobriyal and Abhishek Banerjee, will have a pan-India theatrical release in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil in 2D and 3D on November 25.

Akanksha Vyavahare creates Weightlifting National records in 40kg category at Khelo India tournament

Maharashtra-based weightlifter Akanksha Vyavahare has created new national records in the 40kg weight category at the Khelo India National Ranking Women’s Weightlifting tournament Phase 2 on Friday.

The weightlifter, also a part of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, has created the NRs in all 3 scores – Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Total.

Akanksha bettered her existing Snatch national record, by lifting 60kg. She recorded 71kg in the Clean & Jerk, and in the process, registered a total lift of 131kg. She competed in the 40kg Youth Girls category.

Meanwhile, Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu was present during the opening ceremony earlier in the day.

Speaking about the importance of the Khelo India women’s leagues, Mirabai mentioned, “The leagues are significant as many girls are coming across and representing different States and UTs of India. The exposure being provided will be very beneficial for all girls in the coming future.

“This is a big platform, especially for the young generation and the new crop of weightlifters who have just started. Many of the girls are doing very well. This will show up in the coming years for India as to who will be doing the nation proud in weightlifting,” the National Games 2022 gold medalist added.

Mirabai won the gold medal in Phase 1 of the Khelo India Weightlifting tournament in Himachal Pradesh earlier this year.

YouTube to split video content into 3 separate tabs

Video streaming platform YouTube has announced a new update that will now split video content across all channel pages into three separate tabs for Shorts, live streams, and long-form videos.

The update will make it easier for viewers to discover the kinds of content they are most interested in when exploring a creator’s channel page, YouTube said in a blog post.

In the Shorts tab, the viewer will only see Shorts. When the viewer is watching Shorts in the Shorts feed and navigates to a creator’s channel from the feed, the viewer will be directed right to this new tab to keep enjoying Shorts.

In the Live tab, viewers will find all streams this tab including any that are currently active, scheduled, or archived.

However, the Videos tab will continue to house long-form content.

Video users will no longer be able to view Shorts or live streams in the Videos tab in the future, it added.

All devices will begin to display the new Shorts and Live tabs next to the classic Videos tab in the coming weeks, according to the company.

Meanwhile, YouTube recently announced that it is rolling out new design elements and product features, including options to zoom in and out for videos, to enhance the user experience on the platform.
