Bangladesh beat Nepal 3-1 in final, clinch maiden SAFF Women’s Championship

0

A brace from Krishna Rani Sarkar and an early goal from Shamsunnahar jr helped Bangladesh clinch their first-ever SAFF Women’s Championship title at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Monday.

With this win, Bangladesh has broken India’s dominance in this competition which was knocked out earlier by host country Nepal for the very first time in the history of this tournament.

Krishna Rani scored the second goal for Bangladesh in the 42nd minute, following Shamsunnahar Jr’s opener in the 14th minute, and ensured Bangladesh’s victory with another expert finish in the 77th minute.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the first half on a rain-soaked pitch and in front of a capacity crowd, Bangladesh came under tremendous pressure from the hosts, who pulled one back in the 70th minute through a powerful diagonal attempt.

This was the first victory for Bengal Tigresses against Nepal in their ninth attempt, with losing six and two draws. Bangladesh President and PM lauded the women’s football team for winning SAFF Women’s Championship 2022.

Bangladesh team captain Sabina Khatun became the top scorer of the tournament with eight goals in the tournament. Unbeaten champions Bangladesh conceded only once in the tournament – Nepal’s consolation goal netted by Anita in the final – and scored 23 goals.

Bangladesh became champions in South Asian women’s football for the first time in the sixth edition, ending India’s reign of five successive titles. Hosts Nepal, meanwhile, had to contend with the runners-up trophy for the fifth time.

Although Bangladesh had won other tournaments in women’s in South Asian football, this is the first time they won the title at the senior level, that too by beating the two best teams of the region in India and Nepal for the first time.

Bangladesh had earlier made the final on one occasion in 2016 but eventually was beaten 3-1 by India in that final.

Sitharaman seeks enhanced lending from International Finance Corporation

0

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday underlined India’s expectations of getting enhanced lending from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to the tune of $2-2.5 billion in the next one to two years and up to $3-3.5 billion in the next three to four years.

She raised these expectations during her meeting with IFC’s Managing Director Makhtar Diop, who called on her.

Diop discussed IFC’s lending footprint in India, especially in the areas of micro small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), infrastructure, and climate management, the Finance Ministry said in a series of tweets.

He shared IFC’s sentiment of expansion in India and stated that the body would adopt a proactive approach to enhance investment in the country and extend financing to MSMEs to enable capacity building for supplementing India’s efforts to become a manufacturing hub.

Diop further emphasized the potential of looking into sub-national financing for sustainable growth and mobilizing financing for women entrepreneurs.

IFC is an international financial institution that offers investment, advisory, and asset management services to encourage private-sector development in less developed countries. It is a member of the World Bank Group and is headquartered in Washington D.C.

BTS video of ‘Ratchasa Maamaney’ song from ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ released

The makers of director Mani Ratnam’s upcoming magnum opus, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, which is scheduled to hit screens on September 30, has now released a behind-the-scenes (BTS) video of the beautiful song, ‘Ratchasa Maamaney…’.

The video, which shows Karthi having to dance on a magnificent set, has Karthi, choreographer Brinda Master, and art director Thota Tharani talking about the song.

Karthi says, “This song happens when a princess attends a dance performance on Krishna Jayanthi. They have visualized how it would have been in the 10th century.”

The actor also explains a portion of the song in which women and children are seen pulling a rope to make a person fly. “They are doing a stage performance in that era. Yet it should feel real, so they have made women and children pull a rope to make them fly. It is a kind of showmanship,” he explains.

The actor also jokingly discloses how he had arrived at a secret arrangement with dance master Brinda to easily complete his dance portions but how director Mani Ratnam altered all his plans the next day.

“I told Brinda master, ‘Master you’ve taught me three dance bits for this song. I will dance all three bits separately.’ She said ‘Okay’. The next day, Mani sir said, ‘I want it in a single shot. Come down dancing, from the top of the stairs to the bottom. I glanced at the master and she said, ‘I can’t do anything about it.'”

In the BTS video, dance master Brinda says, “We had Bharathanatyam and Kathak in the song. I choreographed it with my assistants and we’d do a full rehearsal. Even the kids performed cutely. We had a lot of Bharathanatyam girls. Not only our movie dancers, but we also had some classical girls as well.”

Jacqueline Fernandez again being quizzed in Rs 200 cr extortion case

Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez on Monday reached the office of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police to join the investigation in connection with the Rs 200 crore extortion case involving multimillionaire conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar.

She will be confronted with the testimonies of Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi and Pinky Irani, who was an aide of Chandrashekhar.

The EOW had earlier recorded Fernandez’s statement, but they found contradictions. To clear the contradictions they quizzed Fatehi and Pinky Irani following which the EOW decided to record Fernandez’s statement once again.

Now, EOW will question Jacqueline Fernandez regarding the contradictions.

Chandrashekhar was arrested for allegedly cheating and extorting money from some high-profile people, including former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh’s wife Aditi Singh. Many Bollywood actors and models have been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate for their alleged links to Chandrashekhar.

In April last year, Chandrashekhar was arrested in another money laundering case linked to the 2017 Election Commission bribery case, which allegedly involved a former AIADMK leader, among others.

1st T20I: Experimental India face well-balanced Australia in search of ideal playing XI before T20 World Cup

0

The Indian cricket team will continue their search for an ideal playing XI before the all-important Men’s T20 World Cup when they take on a well-balanced Australian side in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, here on Tuesday.

India’s lackluster campaign at the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022 had raised some serious questions but the selectors have picked up almost the same squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

The continuity of similar faces shows that skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid and selectors have not pressed the panic button yet and trusting the boys to come good in upcoming matches.

However, the team management will still look to fix some issues and try out a few more things in order to finalize their best possible eleven.

As far as the batting is concerned, the top four consisting of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav pick themselves up automatically, and Hardik Pandya with his valuable all-round ability is also a sure-shot starter.

The biggest question is who will play as the wicket-keeper — Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik?

During the Asia Cup, Karthik started as India’s first-choice wicket-keeper but an injury to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja forced the team management to bring in left-hander Pant, who didn’t look convincing and so far hasn’t been able to justify his talent in T20I cricket like the Test and ODIs.

The idea to use a left-handed batter in the middle overs was to counter the left-arm spinner, and Australia also has a similar bowler in Ashton Agar. So, Pant can get the preference over Karthik, who is known for his finishing prowess.

Despite being a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja, Axar Patel didn’t get a game at the Asia Cup. Deepak Hooda, who can bowl a few overs and gives the captain an extra option, got the opportunity to play but he wasn’t used in the bowling at all.

Also, Hooda’s success has mostly come as a top-order batter but he was given the job to finish the innings in the multi-team event in Dubai.

So, it will be interesting to see whether Dravid and Rohit show confidence in the all-around ability of Axar or once again Hooda gets the nod.

On the other hand, India’s bowling attack will be bolstered by the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. Both Bumrah and Harshal missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to injuries and they will be keen to make their mark and get into the groove during the three-match series.

After being expensive in back-to-back matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished his Asia Cup campaign on a high with a superb performance against Afghanistan, and he will hope to continue that.

Team India also might give a chance to Umesh Yadav, who has replaced Md Shami in the squad. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin are the spin options apart from Axar.

Overall, India’s playing XI in the first match will give a bit of clarity on their thinking and approach for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Aaron Finch-led Australia will miss the services of Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh for the entire three-match T20I series in India.

Starc (knee), Marsh (ankle) and Stoinis (side) will all stay home due to their ‘minor’ injuries, alongside David Warner who had been already rested from making the trip.

Despite missing their key players, T20 World Cup defending champions Australia have a well-balanced squad. The five specialist batsmen, five all-rounders, and five specialist bowlers have the look of a balanced and winning side.

However, the run drought of Australian skipper Aaron Finch is a big concern for them and India will look to exploit that.

Eyes will be also on the supremely talented Tim David. Raised in Western Australia, David played 14 Twenty20 internationals for Singapore.

After creating a name for himself in franchise leagues all over the world, the hard-hitter was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore before being acquired for Rs. 8.25 crore by Mumbai Indians in the auction last March.

However, after two early failures, David was benched and later included for the second half by which time Mumbai Indians’ chances of the playoffs were over. David did have a role to play in those late victories for his franchise and the 26-year-old will be keen to prove himself in Indian conditions.

Also, with many members of this Australian squad familiar with the conditions in India due to their IPL experience, India won’t have that home advantage.

Players like skipper Aaron Finch, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Kane Richardson, among others, have spent enough time in India to know what it takes to succeed at the top level.

Unlike other visiting teams, Australia has a solid record in India in T20Is and the hosts will also aim to continue their domination at home. So, overall, the stage is set for a mouth-watering clash in Mohali.

Squads:

India:

Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah.

Australia:

Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Aaron Finch (c), Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa

Footballer Tom Brady broke another Microsoft Surface tablet

0

During Sunday night’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Saints, US footballer Tom Brady broke a Microsoft Surface tablet on the ground.

After an incomplete pass, the quarterback became clearly angry, threw his helmet onto the field, and went back to the sidelines, where he threw the tablet, reports The Verge.

The Buccs were losing when Brady threw the tablet, but they ended up coming back and defeating the Saints 20-10.

This is not Brady’s first documented case of tablet abuse — he threw the thing so hard against the bench after losing a Saints game last year that it actually bounced.

Microsoft Surface chief Panos Panay responded to the incident on his Instagram story this time, saying: “Rest assured the Surface should be just fine.”

As per the report, the Surface tablet has become a punching bag for players and coaches alike since they were first introduced to the National Football League (NFL) in 2014.

NFL’s website says Microsoft designed the Surface tablets specifically for football games, ensuring they can “stand up to the occasional drop”.

‘US sanctions prevent Venezuela from accessing necessary education resources’

0

The US sanctions on Venezuela prevent access to necessary resources for the education sector, Minister of Education Yelitze Santaella said while addressing the UN.

“Venezuela is experiencing a situation of its resources having been illegally withheld, violating all international law by the US,” Santaella said during her speech on Sunday at the UN Transforming Education Summit.

For Venezuela, “education represents a fundamental human right and a social duty, therefore it is democratic and compulsory”, Xinhua news agency quoted the Minister as saying.

It is necessary to release the resources blocked by the US so that Venezuela can use them “for the investment to continue transforming education,” she said.

The Minister stressed that teachers “have suffered from the impact that persecution and financial blockade against the country”.

Even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Venezuela still managed to incorporate 56,000 new teachers into the education system, she added.

World Wrestling C’ships: Bajrang Punia wins bronze, India finish with two medals

0

Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medallist and Olympic bronze winner Bajrang Punia claimed the bronze medal in the men’s 65kg on the final day of the World Wrestling Championships 2022, here on Sunday.

Bajrang, who was wrestling with a bandage on his head due to the injury he sustained during his pre-quarter-final, produced a spirited fightback against Puerto Rico’s Sebastian Rivera, after being 6-0 down early in the bout.

The 28-year-old eventually cut the lead and was trailing 8-9 heading into the last minute of the second period. The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist then pulled off a two-point takedown in the final 20 seconds to turn the tables and win the bout 10-9.

It was Bajrang’s fourth medal at the world championships. With his silver in 2018 and bronze medals in 2013 and 2019, he was already India’s most successful wrestler at the world championships coming into this edition.

Earlier, he won his repechage round against the under-23 world championships silver medallist Vazgen Tevanyan 7-6 after being 4-1 down at the end of the first period.

On Saturday, Bajrang, who the CWG gold in the 2018 and 2022 editions, began with a 5-4 win over Cuba’s two-time world bronze medallist Alejandro Valdes. Though Punia progressed to the next round, he suffered an injury and had to fight the next round with a bandage on his head.

Ace India wrestler then lost to former Pan-American champion John Diakomihalis of the USA in the quarterfinals but entered the repechage after Diakomihalis made it to the final.

At the world championships 2022, India had fielded a strong 30-member contingent that involved competitions for men’s and women’s freestyle along with Greco-Roman wrestling. India sent 10 wrestlers for each of the three categories.

While three-time Commonwealth Games champion Vinesh Phogat won a bronze medal in women’s 53kg, Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya failed to clinch a medal in the men’s 57kg category.

India also returned with two medals at the last edition of the world championships, which were held after the Tokyo Olympics. Anshu Malik won silver in women’s 57kg while Sarita Mor won bronze in 59kg.

Chennai Open 2022: Czech teen Linda Fruhvirtova claims maiden WTA Tour singles title

0

Czech teenager Linda Fruhvirtova won the last five games of the deciding set to capture her maiden WTA Tour singles title, beating third seed Magda Linette of Poland in three sets to complete her breakthrough week here on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Fruhvirtova beat No.3 seed Linette 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final to lift her first crown on the tour.

Fruhvirtova was down 4-1 in the third set before collecting the last five games of the match.

Fruhvirtova took two-and-a-half hours to claim the come-from-behind win over Linette, a two-time singles titlist on tour. The teen avenged a loss to Linette in their only prior meeting, at Cleveland last year.

At 17 years and 141 days old, Fruhvirtova is the youngest titlist of the season on the WTA Tour so far. She is the youngest singles champion on tour since Coco Gauff won Parma last year at 17 years, 70 days old.

Sunday’s match was a bold victory for Fruhvirtova, who converted half of her six break points while fending off seven of the nine she faced in the final, according to a report on the WTA Tour website.

Linette was the early leader as she broke for 5-4 in the first set with a forehand winner off of a drop shot. She then ran with that opportunity, holding serve at love to take a one-set lead.

Fruhvirtova turned the match around, earning her first break of the day for a 5-3 lead in the second set. She levelled the match by consolidating in the next game, closing out a set where she never faced a break point.

A forehand winner gave Linette the first break of the decider for a 3-1 lead, and after holding for 4-1 the Pole appeared to be in charge. But Fruhvirtova used powerful hitting to pull back on serve at 4-3, and the Czech teen moved ahead by a break at 5-4 with a sterling return, the report said.

Fruhvirtova never relinquished that advantage, converting her first championship point in the following game to seal her first title.

iPhone 14 Pro users complain of shaking camera in 3rd-party apps

0

With the smartphone producing blurry and shaking footage, tech giant Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro users report problems recording video in third-party apps with the camera.

According to AppleInsider, the tech giant’s update to the iPhone 14 Pro includes several camera changes, including a 48MP sensor and an Action Mode to generate smooth video.

However, it seems the third-party apps that use the camera are encountering issues with the new hardware, the report said.

Several users discovered that the camera module was shaking when in use in apps, including Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.

The issue was causing video recorded using the camera within the apps to be unpublishable, due to the constant erratic movement.

Posts on social media, including Reddit claim there to be a lot of jitters, believed to be a shaking of the optical image stabilization (OIS) system.

In the case of the iPhone 14 Pro, the 48MP Main camera has Apple’s second-generation Sensor-Shift OIS, which physically moves the sensor, while the other uses an older and more conventional OIS system.

Some users claimed that they could see and hear the shaking and mechanical movement when they used the third-party app’s camera features.

In one video demonstrating the issue, the iPhone was slightly moving and generating a grinding noise.

It is unknown how many iPhones could be affected by the issue. AppleInsider tried, and failed, to reproduce the bug independently, the report said.

Drug reactions can be life-threatening: KGMU doctors

0

Rashes that do not itch, swollen eyes, burning sensation on lips, and sore throat could be symptoms of severe adverse drug reaction (ADR).

Prof A.K. Sachan, head, of the pharmacology department, at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), said that 137 ADR cases had been reported at KGMU’s different departments since February.

The highest 34 cases were reported from the skin department followed by radiotherapy (26) and pulmonary critical care (11).

In some cases, even cardiac issues and liver diseases were caused due to drug reactions.

“Drugs can cause serious implications, so patients should share all their clinical history and previous and current health issues. They should state allergy from any drug in the past,” said Dr. Sachan.

“Diabetes patients should not be given hypertensive drugs as they mask the symptoms that can be fatal. Often such cases get revealed when any patient faints due to low blood sugar,” he added.

Coordinator, pharmacovigilance program, KGMU, Prof Anuradha Nischal, said, “Patients must report any unintended reactions known or unknown, serious or non-serious, due to medicines as soon as they encounter them. There were various medications withdrawn from the market after notable side-effects were reported.”

Citing the instance of a 65-year-old man who was brought to the trauma center of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) with progressive rashes that did not itch, the doctor said that the rashes started on his face and spread over other parts of his body, affecting more than 30 percent of total body surface area.

“He had swollen eyes and lips with a burning sensation. These symptoms lasted for two weeks with manifestations of fever, malaise, and sore throat. Investigation revealed that he had been on medication for seizures for a month prior to developing rashes that had caused toxic epidermal necrolysis, which is a rare, life-threatening skin reaction,” said Dr. Swastika Superia, faculty at the skin department, KGMU.

“Though the man was saved, cases of ADR are common because people ignore initial drug reactions due to lack of awareness,” she added.

21 yrs after she first dreamt of being on KBC, Kolhapur homemaker is a crorepati

Kavita Chawla, a homemaker from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, became the first ‘crorepati’ in the quiz-based reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 14’ hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.

The 45-year-old talked about how she was able to complete her education, despite her father not being prepared to educate her after Class X. She was able to clear Class XII before marriage only because her teacher intervened and reasoned with her father.

Talking about how she prepared for the show, Chawla said: “I used to teach my son Vivek at home and have taught him from KG to Class VIII. I used to prepare for the show along with it because I have always dreamt about going to ‘KBC’ since the time it began.

She continued: “When I used to teach him, I used to study as well and I knew that the knowledge would help me in the future. Whenever I used to get some time off from my household chores I would study to remain updated about current affairs and brush up my general knowledge.”

Kavita added that preparing for the show was not easy. “For a housewife, studies do feel like multitasking and on top of it I had a child and my in-laws to take care of,” Chawla said, adding: “Shouldering those responsibilities and also studying had me understand time management. I did not want to waste time by going out, for instance.”

It took her 21 years and 10 months to finally reach the hotseat and fulfill her dream. On many occasions, in fact, her son would prank her, claiming a call had come from the makers of the reality show.

“The journey from registrations to the hotseat is not that easy and is tediously long,” Chawla said. “Sometimes, when I would register, I would not get the call. Then when I did get the call, I did not get the call for the procedures that follow. If I got the call for an audition, I did not get the call for the interview. I took time to reach the hotseat because I was moving ahead step by step and it took really long to reach here,” she exclaimed.

Talking about meeting Amitabh Bachchan, Chawla said: “It was surreal. I was mesmerized by sir. The most beautiful part of meeting him was the conversations that we had and the most glorious part of meeting him was the time he announced my name for the hotseat and when I won Rs 1 crore.”

Chawla plans to invest the money she has won “in my son’s future because I want him to study further. I want my son to study and grow and make the country proud.” As for her, she said: “I want to travel across India and experience its beauty.”

Kavita Chawla will be seen on the hotseat on September 19 and 20 on ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 14’, Sony Entertainment Television.

Doesn’t matter if Stokes and Hales might not be the best mates; common goal is to win the World Cup: Mott

England white-ball coach Matthew Mott has said winning the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year was the team’s goal, and that all-rounder Ben Stokes and the returning Alex Hales do not need to be ‘best mates’ as Jos Buttler’s side bids to add the 20-over trophy to the ODI World Cup they won in 2019.

The 33-year-old Hales was recently included in the England T20 squad for the seven-match series against Pakistan followed by the T20 World Cup in Australia after the opening batter returned to the side following three years in the cricketing wilderness due to a recreational drug misdemeanor just before the 2019 50-over World Cup.

He was subsequently dropped from the squad as then limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan felt Hales had “shown a complete disregard” for team values. But following Morgan’s retirement and Jonny Bairstow’s freak injury, Hales approached the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and got positive feedback, facilitating his return under a new leadership group of Buttler and Mott.

Incidentally, Hales was with Stokes during a late-night street brawl in September 2017, which reportedly left two people injured. Stokes lost his England vice-captaincy and a place on the Ashes tour. Later, the all-rounder was acquitted after the jury accepted he had acted in self-defense.

Stokes also played a key role in England defeating New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup final; the same event where Hales was ejected from the squad for his recreational drugs misdemeanor and for not apologizing to his teammates.

However, Mott believes the incidents of the past will not have a bearing on the team’s campaign in the T20 World Cup.

“Probably the key phone call for me was when I rang Trevor Bayliss and asked if he had any views (on Hales) since obviously he was (England) coach at the time and has worked with him (Hales) at Sydney Thunder (BBL),” Mott was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

“He said he’s had absolutely no problem with him (Hales) at all, he’s (Hales) made mistakes but he’s trying to get better and for me that’s it. Nobody’s perfect, I’m certainly not, but if he’s trying to get better and he’s the best player then we can work around it,” added Mott.

Stokes had reportedly refused to elaborate on his relationship with Hales recently and Mott said: a “common goal” outweighs everything.

“And as far as that (Stokes) relationship goes, they might not be best mates and that’s OK, you work with colleagues all the time who aren’t your best mate but you can work with them if you’ve got a common goal,” said Mott.

“Ben’s said it, he wants to win World Cups, Alex does as well, we all do, so try and pick the best players and if they end up becoming good mates again that’s great, if not, as long as they’re going towards that goal of winning together then that’s how teams function.”

Was devastated after being dropped from England Test side; the return is memorable: Broad

0

England pace bowler Stuart Broad was devastated following his exclusion from the squad for the away Test series against West Indies earlier this year, but his returning to the side and becoming a part of Brendon McCullum’s all-conquering side has made things “memorable” for the 36-year-old stalwart.

Broad and pace-bowling partner James Anderson, two of the most experienced bowlers in Test history, were dropped from the touring party to the Caribbean under then skipper Joe Root, following the morale-shattering 0-4 loss in the Ashes Down Under. The side still lost the series 0-1, leading the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to make extensive changes in the Test structure.

The ECB brought in coach Brendon McCullum from New Zealand and all-rounder Ben Stokes was handed over the reins of the Test side after Root stepped down. Both Broad and Anderson were back in favor, and since then the duo has worked wonders, guiding the side to six victories in seven Tests under the new skipper.

Broad said those six wins had given him back his self-belief.

“What has made it (return to Test side) so memorable — yes, six wins out of seven is incredible, yes credit must go Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes for the creation of a different style of cricket — is being part of a team in which every single player can look back and say: ‘I’ve contributed at some stage to a Test match win,'” Broad said in his column for Daily Mail.

“I was pretty devastated after being left out of the tour of West Indies and I think what that made me do was allow me to value everything that subsequently came my way. Every day now Brendon McCullum greets me with ‘Morning, Hawk’… It’s fair to say I’ve lightened up a bit and I’m having more fun thanks to the aura he and Stokes have brought to the team,” added Broad.

Board recently become the second-most successful pacer in cricket history after going past former Australian quick Glenn McGrath’s figures during the third Test against South Africa at The Oval. The veteran pace bowler said the win at The Oval, which helped England clinch the Test series against South Africa 2-1, has a “strong place” in the hearts of the players.

“The Oval holds a strong place in a lot of players’ hearts because you end home summers there, and – if you are lucky enough — it’s the place you celebrate Test series wins. And the one over South Africa was special for lots of reasons.

“It capped what has felt like the most incredible summer for me because without trampling over old ground, I was as close as I’ve ever been to never experience that winning feeling again on the international cricket field with the way I felt back in March (when he was dropped).

“On the field, I have been part of a bowling group that just thinks about getting 10 wickets as quickly as possible, not worrying about the economy rate at all, and that actually takes some pressure off,” he added.

Augsburg upset Bayern, Dortmund go top with win over rivals Schalke in Bundesliga

Augsburg extended Bayern’s winless streak to four games as Mergim Berisha scored the only goal of the match while Borussia Dortmund captured the top spot after substitute Youssoufa Moukoko provided the 1-0 winner against stubborn Schalke in the seventh round on Saturday.

Bayern controlled possession from the starting whistle and forced Augsburg onto the back foot in the opening stages as Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane tested goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz in quick succession.

Augsburg defended well and almost finished off a counterattack, but Bayern custodian Manuel Neuer was equal to Florian Niederlechner’s hammer from 20 meters in the 24th minute, reports Xinhua. The German giants started an onslaught on Augsburg’s goal but neither Jamal Musiala nor Leon Goretzka was able to break the deadlock before halftime.

The “Fuggerstadter” eventually flabbergasted Bayern with the opener at the hour mark when Berisha tapped home a loose ball from 11 meters following a free kick.

Bayern pressed frenetically for the draw but Thomas Muller and Sane couldn’t beat Gikiewicz from promising positions.

Augsburg’s goalkeeper remained in the thick of things as he defused a dangerous header from Neuer in the dying seconds of the game.

The hosts’ defense stood firm and ensured Bayern Munich’s first defeat of the season.

“When I look at the statistics, we should have won the game. After the deficit, it was very difficult for us. I think about everything about me, about the situation, about everything,” said Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“After four games without a win, we are stunned and devastated. If you can’t turn your chances into a tangible reward, you stand there with zero points. That Manuel Neuer produced the best chance of the game says it all,” said Bayern midfielder Thomas Muller.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund recaptured the top spot as the “BVB” overpowered newly promoted Schalke by courtesy of youngster Moukoko, who headed home the winner in the 79th minute.

Eintracht Frankfurt snatched its third win of the season after goals from Sebastian Rode, Daichi Kamada and Kristijan Jakic smoothed the way for the 3-1 win over Stuttgart.

Milos Veljkovic’s late 1-1 equalizer helped newcomers Werder Bremen to share the spoils with Bayer Leverkusen and Jonas Hofmann’s first-half brace secured Borussia Monchengladbach a 3-0 victory over Leipzig.
