Flying object repulsed by BSF at India-Pak border in Jammu

The Border Security Force (BSF) troops in the Kanachak sector at the International Border in Jammu fired at and repulsed an unidentified flying object, officials said on Tuesday.

“Yesterday night on 1 Aug alert BSF troops fired on an unidentified flying object with blinking light at 2135 hrs in kanachak area as it tried to cross International Border. Blinking light was not observed by troops thereafter. A hectic Search of the area is in progress along with Police and other agencies. Nothing recovered so far,” said the force in a statement.

There have been several instances of weapons droppings by drones from Pakistan near the International Border in Jammu for terrorists operating in the union territory.

The BSF has recovered several weapon caches in the past and foiled the designs of terrorists and their handlers across the border.

On July 22, a drone movement was detected and effectively repulsed by the BSF in the Kanachak sector of Jammu.

Meanwhile, Vicky reshared the post on his Insta story and wrote: “Was asked to ‘stand’ all green-faced.”

However, later Vicky posted another story on his Insta which again featured a ball with eyes, nose, and mouth drawn on it.

He wrote: “It was great working with you too.” Replying to his post, the actress wrote: “Someone’s done a good job making me look like one virus. Thanks, I am touched by this. Love.”

The two did not share what they are working on or what the project is.

On the work front, Rashmika has ‘Animal’, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor. She will be making her much-awaited Bollywood debut with ‘Goodbye’ starring Amitabh Bachchan. She also has the sequel of ‘Pushpa’, ‘Mission Majnu’ and ‘Varisu’ with Vijay Thalapatty.

Vicky will be seen in ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ and ‘Sam Bahadur’.

BLACKPINK to formally release new album in September

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK will officially drop its highly-anticipated second studio album in September and will begin their world tour a month later in October.

It has been earlier announced that the quartet will return to the music scene this month with the new album, reports Yonhap.

But YG Entertainment said in a video posted on its official blog for announcing broad schedules for the band’s comeback that the group will pre-release some of the upcoming album’s tracks this month and officially drop the album in September.

In October, the group will begin its largest-ever world tour to meet its international fans, the agency added without giving exact dates or hours.

“The name for this comeback project is ‘Born Pink,’ which implies the identity of BLACKPINK, which is never ordinary and will exude a fatal aura,” the agency said in a press release.

The upcoming album will mark the band’s first project with all four members in one year and 10 months.

The last whole-group release was in October 2020 with the band’s first full-length album ‘The Album’, including the main single ‘Lovesick Girls’ and ‘How You Like That’, a pre-released song.

‘The Album’ became the first million-selling album from a K-pop girl group, selling more than 1.4 million copies. It was a big success in the global market, debuting at No. 2 on Billboard 200 and the British Official Chart for albums upon its release.

In 2021, individual albums by members Rose and Lisa were as successful as the group’s first studio album. BLACKPINK has recently extended its lead as the most-followed musical act on YouTube after hitting 75 million subscribers.

Ex-Pak PM Shahid Abbasi accused of taking bribe from Indian company

Shahbaz Gill, chief of staff to PTI chairman Imran Khan, has accused former Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of taking a bribe from an Indian company when he was the Petroleum Minister in the cabinet of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif,

Gill alleged that Abbasi took 140 million per bribe from the Indian firm as a consultancy fee and the money was transferred to his bank account in three transactions, one in December 2016 and two in January 2017, The News reported.

Gill said he and Abbasi had accounts with the same bank and demanded that details of both accounts be put before the public.

He claimed that the former premier had tried to give the impression of being an upright person as Prime Minister, but this was far from reality.

Responding to Gill’s allegations, Abbasi challenged the PTI leader to take the matter to a court of law if he had evidence.

In a statement from Islamabad, the former premier said the PTI and its “mudslinging brigade” had been ruling the country for four years and instituted two cases against him.

Abbasi urged his political opponent to petition a court to file yet another case against him and present the “so-called evidence”.

During his press conference, Gill also told reporters that PTI chief Imran Khan was briefed about the relief efforts to help flood victims in Punjab and the progress made on the Ehsaas social safety and poverty alleviation program.

He said that the PTI chairman would also meet party lawmakers from six Punjab divisions separately to discuss party affairs and a strategy for the next general election.

Mobility startup Bolt Mobility, co-founded by eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, has abruptly disappeared from several of its markets in the US, leaving e-bikes and equipment abandoned amid unanswered calls, the media reported.

Bolt had raised $40.2 million, along with an undisclosed investment from Chennai-based Ram Charan Company in India in May this year.

According to a TechCrunch report, Bolt Mobility stopped operating in at least five US cities, including Portland, Oregon, Burlington, South Burlington, and Winooski in Vermont and Richmond, California.

“City representatives said they were unable to reach anyone at Bolt, including its CEO Ignacio Tzoumas,” the report said late on Sunday.

Portland suspended Bolt’s permit to operate there last month after the company failed to “provide the city with updated insurance and pay some outstanding fees”.

“All of our contacts at Bolt, including their CEO, have gone radio silent and have not replied to our emails,” Robert Goulding, public information manager at Burlington’s Department of Public Works, was quoted as saying.

Bolt had a presence in more than 50 markets across the US.

The investment from Ram Charan Company in May was set to be used to propel transportation sustainability efforts by bringing cutting-edge solid-state battery technology; energy-efficient, metal-like plastics made from recycled waste; and coilless electric motors to small and personal vehicles.

“Our partnership with Bolt Mobility, a brand with high standards in performance and sustainability, is an important step forward for Ram Charan and its group companies,” Kaushik Palicha, Director, Ram Charan, had said in a statement.

“We will support Bolt’s vision of ensuring sustainability throughout their entire value chain, from the quality of energy, quality of materials, and the reach of their mobility devices,” Palicha had said.

“I look forward to partnering with Ram Charan as we help usher in Transportation 2.0,” said Bolt CEO Tzoumas. “Together, we are helping create healthier, more livable cities of the future. a”

Every river has its own characteristics. Rivers have inspired poets. They have been a motivating force for even common people like us.

“When lots of people were saying that we cannot make a film on the scale of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, we started. Then Covid struck. When we were perplexed, just like how a river knows to find its way to the sea, we knew Mani sir knew how to take this film to its logical end.

“We all went and stood with Mani sir and worked. In a matter of just 120 days, he completed both ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’. It is not easy to make two films in 120 days.

“We would put our makeup on at 2-2.30 a.m. There would be 30 people waiting ready to put on makeup on us. Nobody would sleep. At 6.30 in the morning, we would take the first shot.

Twitter has confirmed that it is testing a new feature that will allow users to post images, videos, and GIFs in one multimedia tweet.

The company confirmed the test and said it is available to some users for a limited time, adding that accounts can add tags to both photos and videos in the tweet, reports TechCrunch.

“We are testing a new feature with select accounts for a limited time that will allow people to mix up to four media assets into a single tweet, regardless of format,” the microblogging site was quoted as saying in a statement.

While some users have tweeted about the feature, it is not clear what different media would look like in a single tweet.

“We are seeing people have more visual conversations on Twitter and are using images, GIFS, and videos to make these conversations more exciting,” the company said.

“With this test, we are hoping to learn how people combine these different media formats to express themselves more creatively on Twitter beyond 280 characters,” it added.

Recently, Twitter confirmed that it is testing a new status feature that lets users tag posts with pre-defined labels, much like the statuses that the previous Live Journal and MySpace systems permitted.

Some of these statuses include “Spoiler alert”, “Shower thoughts”, “Picture of the day” and for some reason, the very redundant “Current status”.

162 structures destroyed in California’s largest wildfire of 2022

At least 162 structures have been destroyed by an explosive wildfire near the Yosemite National Park in the US western state of California, authorities said.

The Oak Fire, ignited a week ago in central California’s Mariposa County, has rapidly grown to the largest wildfire so far this year in California. The fire burned over 19,200 acres (77.7 square km) with 45 percent containment as of Friday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) on Friday.

More than 640 structures are under threat as nearly 3,800 firefighters, with aircraft support, are continuing their efforts against the blaze, Xinhua news agency reported.

“Fire crews, along with cooperating agencies, are working around the clock to repopulate the areas within the fire perimeter,” said Cal Fire in a release about the incident.

“Firefighters are building and improving direct fire line in extremely steep, rugged, and difficult to access terrain,” the agency added, noting that persistent drought, critically dry fuel, and tree mortality remain contributing factors to the fire spread.

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for Mariposa County on Saturday due to the effects of the fire.

The Oak Fire, which forced evacuations for thousands of people, was the third fast-moving wildfire to force evacuation in Mariposa County in two weeks.

Another ferocious wildfire, the Washburn Fire, burning a dozen miles east of the Oak Fire, has charred over 4,883 acres (19.76 square km) to date with 94 percent contained after more than three weeks near the Yosemite National Park.

The Washburn Fire has drawn national attention as firefighters were working on the blaze to protect some of the world’s oldest and largest trees in the park.

Tech giant Apple has announced that it now has over 860 million paid subscribers across all of its services, which include Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple News, iCloud, and more.

Luca Maestri, Chief Financial Officer at Apple, said that the company saw increased customer engagement with its Services during the quarter.

“We now have more than 860 million paid subscriptions across the services on our platform, which is up more than 160 million during the last 12 months alone,” he said during the June quarter earnings call with analysts.

The CFO mentioned that Services had a June quarter revenue record of $19.6 billion, up 12 percent despite almost 500 basis points of FX headwinds and impacts from our business in Russia and the macroeconomic environment.

“The record level of performance of our services portfolio during the June quarter reflects the strength of our ecosystem on many fronts: First, our installed base has continued to grow, reaching an all-time high across each geographic segment and major product category,” said Maestri.

“And finally, we continue to improve the breadth and the quality of our current Services offerings, from a constant flow of new content on Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade to great new features we recently announced for iCloud and Apple Music, which we believe our customers will love,” he added.

Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that in two and a half years since launch, Apple TV+ has now earned 250 wins and over 1,100 award nominations and counting.
