Former Congress Presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi paid their last respects to former Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi offered condolences to Chandy’s family members after paying his respects. The body was initially kept at the residence of former minister T. John before being taken to Kerala.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and cabinet ministers also paid their respects to Oommen Chandy. Rahul Gandhi described Chandy as an exemplary grassroots Congress leader who dedicated his life to serving the people of Kerala. Kharge praised Chandy’s commitment and visionary leadership, which made a lasting impact on Kerala’s progress and the nation’s political landscape. Party General Secretary K.C. Venugopal expressed deep sadness over Chandy’s passing and acknowledged his role as a visionary Chief Minister who brought about positive change in Kerala.

Oommen Chandy, a senior Congress leader who served as the Chief Minister of Kerala twice, passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru at the age of 79. He had been battling throat cancer and had been residing in Bengaluru since November the previous year. The Kerala government declared a public holiday and announced a two-day period of mourning as a mark of respect. Chandy holds the record for being the longest-serving legislator in the history of the Kerala Assembly.
