Before making his mark in films and winning a Filmfare Award for Baby, Vijai Bulganin had already built a strong following through his independent music. Among his popular songs, Koyila, featuring Alekya Harika and Vinay Shanmukh, stands out as one of his biggest successes, with the song crossing 78 million views.
Interestingly, the journey of Koyila could have been very different. Vijai Bulganin revealed that the song was initially taken to around three or four filmmakers with the idea of featuring it in their movies. However, none of the directors eventually selected the track for their projects.
Instead of giving up on the song, Bulganin and his team decided to release it independently. What followed was an unexpected success, as Koyila connected strongly with music lovers and went on to achieve millions of views online.
The song’s success proves that a track does not always need the backing of a major film to find an audience. Koyila created its own identity through independent release and became one of Bulganin’s notable musical achievements.
Interestingly, if any of those filmmakers had selected the song, Koyila could have become a memorable part of their respective films. However, the rejections ultimately turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Bulganin.
With its impressive view count and popularity among listeners, Koyila stands as a reminder that sometimes a song can flourish best when it is given the freedom to find its own path.
