Rohit Sharma Retirement rumours have once again become a major talking point ahead of India’s third ODI against England at Lord’s. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially denied reports claiming that the match will be Rohit Sharma’s final appearance in One-Day Internationals.
The speculation began after several reports suggested that the Indian selectors had informed Rohit Sharma that he was no longer part of the team’s long-term plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The reports also claimed that the management was looking to prepare younger players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, for the future.

Putting an end to the retirement rumours, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated that there has been no discussion within the board regarding Rohit Sharma retiring after the England series. He made it clear that reports describing the Lord’s ODI as Rohit’s farewell match were not true.
While the BCCI denied the retirement speculation, it did not clarify whether Rohit Sharma remains part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. As a result, questions about his long-term future in the ODI format continue to generate discussion among fans and cricket experts.
Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta also shared his views, saying Rohit Sharma appeared mentally uncertain during his innings in Cardiff. His comments have further fueled conversations about the veteran opener’s future despite the BCCI’s clarification.
For now, the board’s position is clear—Rohit Sharma is not retiring after the Lord’s ODI. However, with the 2027 ODI World Cup still on the horizon and India’s transition plans yet to be revealed, speculation over Rohit’s future is unlikely to end anytime soon.
